In Bengal, there is a lore behind kauravas' birth. The scene goes like this... After learning the birth of Yudhistir, Gandhari slammed her protruded belly with 'mushal'. Eventually when she faced miscarriage, Sage Vyas was angered and heavily criticized her and Dhritarashtra. He blamed them for their impatience. According to Vyas, if there had'nt been a miscarriage, all the 100 children would have been righteous, brave and followers of Dharma. They could have even surpassed the Pandavas in terms of everything. Vyas finally predicted that Gandhari had been impatient throughout her pregnancy period and was equally jealous of Pandu's wives. And since, out of jealousy her children took birth, this very jealousy will take their lives too.
Dhritarashtra was never rude to his wife as shown here, she hurt herself due to frustration and fear of losing her status and position as she was not able to give an heir to hastinapur.gandhari was really amazing, she lived blindfolded whole life just for the sake of her husband so that he wouldn't feel inferiority complex and society will not be able to differentiate between the couple, she was a mahaan pativrataa but sometimes love demands action not sacrifice, she could be an eye to her husband without putting clothes over her eyes and she could better be guide to her children too who caught wrong path in the absence of right direction with no parental control.
