THE TURBO IN OUR 2021 MAHINDRA S10 FAILED AT JUST 65,000KM. THIS IS THE FINDINGS, AND HOW IT GOT FIXED. #mahindra #mahindraaustralia #4x4india #4x4 #mahindrasouthafrica
I think you've been exceptionally unlucky. I've had no issues in 120000km's in 30 months over terrible South African Bush tracks, potholes tar, mountain bridle passes. Many of my farmer and Conservation guys love them. Sorry to hear it. Al the best mate.
Bought an S10 because of this channel, it’s on 85000km on the clock and absolutely no issues… touch wood and I’ve made some of the changes you made on yours, ie. Exhaust, lift and snorkel, was considering doing a canopy but we’ll see… keep us updated 🤜🏾❤️🤛🏾
Russian roulette with these things... Bloody great car you've got! but I wonder if you just got really lucky....?? Or if Graham has just gotten really unlucky... I just don't know and I'm gonna have to give it a miss due to uncertainty Just not worth the ris
I owned a Ford Ranger 2.2 xs 4x4 and that blew number 2 piston to pieces at 106000km's, an intercooler and turbo at 140000km's, kept going into limp mode because of sensor failures. I traded it for the Mahindra haven't regretted it for a minute. Maybe they can trade you up to a new special edition.
@@grahamharris4wdadventures53 Oh no! Our South African Pikus are assembled here in Durban so we're fortunate have good spares backup here. I've broken some things through stupidity on my part and never waited more than a day. I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles. I love my Mahindra, and I'll buy another in a heartbeat. So sorry mate.
In sixteen years of Mahindra ownership I have never suffered a blown turbo or failed centre bearing that I hear complaints off despite living and working my vehicles in the centre of Australia. My first Mahindra did throw the pipe between turbo and intercollegiate though from a faulty installation and I sympathise with how absolutely gutless they become with an inoperative turbo. I have been lucky enough to just suffer mainly standard wear and tear items which is why we just bought units five and six, a scorpio and an S11. So far the S11 is managing the conditions in Central Oz, while I continue to hang onto my S5 until the S11 completes her trips to Dalhousie Springs and Emu Field.
Yeah I here this story quite a lot about others who have had very little problems with reliability. I just wish I had the same run with mine. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your feedback mate 👍
@@kidoman7988 all my posts to the Mahindra Owners discussion forum are being auto deleted by the administrators. May be that I'm not negative enough. Monday was Glendambo, tomorrow I have to go back down to Glendambo to repair a sign, Saturday we have the Coober Pedy Races here, then Sunday it's back up to Oodnadatta. I hadn't thought my travels that I see as normal would be that interesting.
Same here in SA, its the waiting for parts that gets to a person. The Mahindra grows on you but we need a reliable car, and if it goes wrong we need to get it sorted quickly. Not wait 10 or more days for parts. I waited 6 days for lower ball joints. All the best. Keep the videos coming.
Hey mate, I am not a representative of Mahindra, but I am tru blue Aussie from Melbourne Australia. The factory is based in Chennai Tamil Nadu India, my hometown. I have a friend who works in the design team, I have forwarded this clip to them for review and feedback. They are really good taking crucial feedback. Hope this helps with getting the reliability factor addressed, Hoo Roo
Yeah, we had a crap trip to notch point last time. Carrier bearing in the mahindra, 2 tyres on the toy hauler, only caught a catfish and a strange noise from the diff when we got home. Apart from that it was a lovely place. Lol. Thanks for watching 👍
I just bought the 2024 s11. Blew the turbo taking it home to my farm from the dealership. 174km is all I got out of it before I watched it get towed away.
Gee that is definitely not a good start. That's the biggest problem I found with mahindra. They seemed to be just slapped together by people who have no idea of quality control. I certainly hope you don't have any more drama with it. If it looks like it's going to have more, get rid of it asap!!. Trust me ya don't need the stress of dealerships and mahindra blaming you for the problems. Good luck and thanks for watching 👍
Jeez sorry to hear about your ordeal. You've had quiet a few failures and you staying in Australia spares are so hard to get. Would recommend you to sell it wonder if you got a lemon. Since Mahindras are not known for there power or looks or size.what they are known for is it's bulletproof reliability and if you can't get that sell the little buggar.
Yeah, I thought about it a few times now. I did actually try an trade it I a while ago, but I was given a total ridiculous number on trade. So I kept it and turned it in to a tourer. Unfortunately that still didn't stop the failures occurring. Hopefully that's the end of them now. Thanks for watching 👍
Sounds like you've had a good run. I'm just disappointed that mine has spent so many times parked up waiting for parts, when my other 4x4's just keep going.
Honestly you probably won't have an issue with getting one. Mine seems to be one of justxa hand full that seems to have troubles. I know lots of people who don't have a single problem from theirs. Thanks for watching mate 👍
The bit about this story that stood out to me is the agent changing the intercooler "just in case". A few minutes with an air compressor and a some home made adapters could have tested and ruled out the intercooler as a problem. No big deal for you as it was under warranty but if it wasnt you would have been paying for something you didnt need to.
Would you believe they put a new steering pump on it when I had trouble with the rack, and tried charging me for it when it didn't fix the problem. I soon told them where to stick the pump.🤣
@@grahamharris4wdadventures53 wowza yeah I reckon there’s some dodgy mechanics out there doing the dodgy, I know that companies such as mahindra will fork out the cash as part of the warranty. I’ve seen a friend take his MG for a service and straight after the service his transmission failed. I reckon they did something to it, but that’s my little conspiracy
Check the pickup gause in the oil pan, had a Mazda 2.2 Mzrcd blow up a turbo, flooded the intercooler with oil and the engine too, replaced the turbo, cleaned the intercooler, dident clean out the pick up gause and 5,000ks later detonated the engine in it. Worth checking.
Ive had endless crap with mine. Maybe go off road 3 times a year. Center bearing went at 36000km then again at 65000km then again at 90000 which i then took to drive shaft engineers which said they had not balanced it right at the Mahindra agents. Thats sorted now. Now have an electrical fualt in the trasfer case at 105000km plus control arm bushing need replacing. Infotainment system stopped working recently. Have had multiple other small issues. To many to mention. Was going to get my wife a xuv500 but when all this started i decided to go another way. My experience with East Rand Mahindra here in Aouth Africa has also put me off ever wanting to buy another mahindra again. Will get mine sorted and get rid if it within the next year.
It one off those vehicles where long ago Australian modified a car and made it great,Land Rover, land cruiser, the list go on,Maybe a after market turbo, surely there a Australian manufacturer,It will be a great car when you tinker with Australian products in it,After all we Australian ran Holden,Ford,on fence wire to cross the outback roads,It history that we all have.
Yeah, after being in this country for over 10 years now, you would think mahindra could get there act together with aftermarket parts distributors and give Australian people more choice of parts to build their own unique 4x4.
Yeah, I would usually try and talk you out of not buying one. But I think you could definitely put your money in to something more less likely to crap itself. I know I won't buy another mahindra. Thanks for watching 👍
That’s not good Graham talking about drive shaft carrier bearings mine has just done one at 58000 it’s the rubber that’s failed not the bearing I’ve packed it out with some rubber from Bunnings till the new one arrives .
Yeah, that's what failed in mine as well. They were supposed to do a recall on them and change them all out to a stronger one. But obviously that never happened.
The problem is in the supply chain. That's still the main issue with many parts. I'm still waiting for one part for my Honda PCX 150 which will arrive in May apparently. I've heard only good things about the Mahindra from people I would have expected to avoid the Pik Ups.
My problem was that my turbo was only 4 hours away and mahindra took like 11 days to get it to my dealer. Yet the second one was sent up over night. Just real bad at customer service.
Sounds a lot like the Foton Tunland I had. Marvelous ute when it wasn't breaking, and I couldn't trust it. Got rid of it and bought a new BT-50. Nothing's made like it used to be but stuffed if I'll do a "challenger brand" again.
Yeah that's the problem. I absolutely love this little 4x4. It has a big heart with a good soul. But unfortunately I hate seeing it sitting in th dealership awaiting parts way to often.
Exactly, and at 54 going on 55 I don't see doing track repairs as so much of an adventure as I did at 25. Especially with a couple of women whinging at me about it while I'm under the thing getting eaten by the red ants it inevitably broke down on top of the nest of.
Thats no good but Mahindra failures are rare.........Frustrating I bet ! Ive seen good toyotas and Rangerovers breakdown too to bring some context. Hope its fixed quick !🎉
Mate in all honesty you have to put things like this in to prospective. Ford, Toyota and other top manufacturers sell so many more vehicles in Australia compared to mahindra. The fact is, because of the large volume of sales, they might have maybe 1 in 60 vehicles sold have an issue. Where small volume companies such as mahindra may have 1 in 3 vehicles sold have issues. And that reflects bad or poor quality control and build quality over all. Don't get me wrong, I think the mahindra is great value for money. But, it will never match others in sales if it can't get the small things right first. And quality control/reliability is the first thing that turns people off a brand. Thanks heaps for Watching, and thanks for your feedback 👍
I'm hoping that you just have a dud, a Friday afternoon special and this isn't an ongoing issue you'll contend with. As for beyond the warranty that's where you can assert your Australian Consumer Law rights to ensure you're looked after. It's curious you're having these issues when there's very few other issues reported. Hopefully this is the end of the rough patch.
Definitely making my wonder why mine is having issues. And when I film everything, I have documentation on every thing that has gone wrong under warranty. Thanks for watching 👍
@grahamharris4wdadventures53 I noticed that you had a lot of good memories with this Mahindra pickup. It was almost a family member. I am aware you recently sold it. One can only imagine how hard it was. Thank you for the journey on this beautiful car. We laughed, we cried. It's win was ours, and its loss is ours too. That Ford will have to take over now. Welcome also to the Toyota SUV trade in that replaces this beauty. You said it well, Mahindra was good for the period it was used. Served its purpose. After the turbo change it was never the same. Had to go. I am so proud of you for how you managed the loss. You inspire so many of us.
Thank you for all your kind words. Yes I do miss it, I was even looking at old photos of it today. I'm going to put a compilation video on RU-vid about all the best 4x4ing moments ww had in it. Stay tuned for that video, it will have a lot of laughs in it. 😀👍
I look at it this way, in America you can pay $80k USD for a truck that'll die before it's first oil change. Mind you, the same trucks used to run for 300k+ kilometers no problem. Ever since the pandemic started every manufacturer has supplier quality issues. Better to have a relatively inexpensive vehicle fail than something much more expensive and "premium".
Yeah true. But after 10 years in Australia, mahindra still has a parts problem. No aftermarket company wants to deal with them either. Think I'll ho back to Toyota. 👍
I was unlucky enough to be a mechanic for a dealership that sold mahindra's. Used to do pre-deliveries on them and we would have to tighten nearly every bolt, they regularly came with broken parts etc, fluids were always either bone dry or way overfull. Wouldn't own one for free.
Yeah I've herd that. Unfortunately the build quality is a bit hit and miss. I really do like my little beast, but it's hard to see it parked up waiting for parts so often. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your valuable feedback 👍
Mate, you might want to bite the bullet and consider selling it before the warranty runs out. I know you didn't pay because of the warranty, but have you got prices for the repairs ?
Mate that is certainly a concern of mine, and a very good point most people overlook when buying a new car. Especially one from a company who doesn't have the best reputation of affordable/quality parts that are easy available. Thanks for your feedback 👍
Two brand new turbos, both with their own faults?? Thanks for finally settling my decision in not to buy one. I also happened to have a look at a low mileage (11,000kms) S10 up on a hoist and was appalled, by the amount of surface rust already present on most surfaces. I'll be getting a Ssangyong Musso instead.
Mate I say this to a lot of people who have doubts. Problems are few and far between with mahindras. But it is something I would definitely looked at harder if I was in the market for a new 4x4. The musso is a really good looking rig, and you can get an ironman suspension upgrade. I still think the mahindra is a great little 4x4, but they aren't perfect and like most companies, they need to do better in the parts and reliability department. Thanks for watching, and I hope you find yourself a great little 4x4.👍
I'm like you I was considering the musso, then this was starting to sway me, but no more because I was curious to see how it would handle the new weight, but it seems the motor is just to under powered, plus now that you mentioned rust, no way. Back to the musso which has the Eaton gearbox plus no timing belt
A mate of mine at work has a musso. He absolutely loves it, and it just simply done the job for him. Iron Man do a suspension lift for them as well. Thanks for watching mate 👍
I was most definitely NOT sponsored by mahindra. And was definitely NOT satisfied with mahindra Australia, or was I satisfied with their product and customer service. And I'm not the only one. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated. 👍
I am not sure what I would do if my Mahindra broke down. The only place in south Brisbane I can take it too is Westpoint who are not mechanics but a service centre and even then they struggle with that. Waiting ten days for parts is a joke but that is fairly quick compared to some people waiting weeks and months for parts or for mechanics to fix the vehicle. Mahindra needs to improve spare parts supply because it seems that non Mahindra service centres are refused parts or are given long lead times for parts that are in the Brisbane warehouse. I believe this is WestPoint's doing because they are the authorized supplier for Brisbane southside. A local mechanic was trying to get a service kit from Westpoint to service my vehicle and was told that it would be about a month lead time which I knew was a lie because I know you can not believe a word anybody from Westpoint says. I drove there and picked up a kit that afternoon. I really do love my Mahindra but the fact that I have to deal with Westpoint to get parts is stopping me from buying a Mahindra of any sort in the future.
Inconsistent quality of materials used in components is the main problem I believe, if they could get that part right these vehicles would be around for 600,000 ks
Inconsistent with the whole build quality is the bigger problem I reckon mate. Just to many of them feel like a Friday job in my opinion. Thanks for watching mate 👍
Seen plenty of Turbo failures over the years some in the first 2000kms , all makes and models large and small engines . manufacturers use so many sources for parts in production turbo bearings may be spread over a 1000 different models in different markets you may never get the answer . I will say this with the advent of dpf system's failure rates are definitely higher maybe due to higher heat involved in exhaust burn off . lets hope you get a good run from now on mate.👍
I know my old mans volvo primeover had an adblu tank. Oddly he never had to top it up, even after several years of long driving hrs. . . That is the kind of efficiency i would like on the AdBlue utes without killing the warranty 😜
The biggest issue with Mahindra is the parts. They have to do abetter job on that front. I think they do a good job with the car. The issue everyone have to wait when something goes wrong. Which is not at all ideal.
Absolutely spot on mate. Considering they have been in Australia for quite a while now, they still have absolutely no idea on customer service or support. Thanks for watching. 👍
Yeah, it certainly felt like it. But I wasn't the only one. Lots of people had troubles with their mahindra. I'm actually glad I don't have those dramas anymore. Thanks for watching. 👍
Graham from watching your videos your Mahindra is the one that is doing all the work, the Colorado is rarely seen and your Toyota 88 has surely had many, many repairs and is lucky to do 100 km an hour on a freeway safely. Mahindra for what you pay it's a bargin of a car and when you start to modify any vehicle, you're looking for trouble.
Mate the Colorado and the shorty were being used all the time before I bought the mahindra. The Colorado has 245,000km on it and its been tuned and highly modified since 2019 with no dramas. And yes the shorty is quite capable of sitting on 100km/h as it was my work car for ages, travelling 900km to work and back each week. The only things I have fixed on the shorty is, alternator, starter motor, and radiator along with swivel hubs and bearings. Very little over the time of it. All of the issues with the mahindra have happened in ONLY 65000km.
This is the second time iv seen this issue both around the same kms the other one is from the mike Carney mahindra dealer RU-vid page. It is consering. I'd love to buy one but I'm getting more concerned
Agree totally. Quality control needs to be better, not only in mahindra but all manufacturers. These days everything is just mass produced without little care.
Thanks heaps mate. Doesn't feel like I'm making much progress forward lately. Hopefully our trip north will change all that. Got the mahindra and Colorado all loaded up and ready to go. Fingers crossed we will get there and back without any dramas. Thanks for your support mate. Much appreciated 🙏
Definitely starting to think that way mate. Great little 4x4, but unfortunately the reliability and after sales service isn't there. Thanks for watching 👍
I get the feeling, and I followed the Chanel pretty much since you had the vehicle, it is a bit from Hoorah to it is all so bad if I don't get my way. Started pretty much when you thought you were entitled to get something from Mahindra, and you didn't. I remember that Video! Before it was all glory and perfect and happiness with the vehicle and suddenly it all goes south? Bit weird.
Well mate. When the technical director of engineering mahindra Australia tells you straight to your face, that mahindra and my dealership will be sponsors of the channel, then nothing...... you start to get a bit of a bad taste in ya mouth for the company your tyring to help. So when things started going wrong with my mahindra, I certainly wasn't going to say that mine was the best 4x4 on the planet. I only tell the story of MY mahindra. Lots of others don't have a drama, and I only relay things that are going on in my world. And by the feedback I get people want to know how it was handled from mahindra. I do really think mahindra could be a strong competitor in Australia, but they need to change a few things in my opinion. Thanks for watching. Your views are a big help to my channel and my family. 👌👍
If you treat and respect any vehicle or machine it will serve you well. Diesel engines in general do not like high rpms. I've had mine for two years now and running and operating like a treat, it's only done 20 000 km and I think my vehicle is running better than when it was new.
Yes I agree. But this mahindra is only 1 of 4 4x4's that I own, and none of the other brands have problems like this mahindra. Our Colorado is tuned to be putting out 687nm at the wheels and it pulls our off road toy hauler through aome pretty serious off road tracks. And it doesn't have any issues. Or does my 1988 bj70 landcruiser with 420,000km on th clock. All our 4x4's get treated the same, so if the mahindra can't keep up with my other brands, I think it needs to be made better. Thanks for watching 👍
That is spot on. I'm lucky that I have quite a few cars to choose from to get me to and from work. But if this thing was my only work car, I'd be pretty upset with the whole situation. I mean the part only had to come 400km to get to the mechanic. I literally couldn't have driven down there and picked it up in 1 day. Just pathetic I thought. Thanks for watching 👍
Not the greatest news. You've started having a few dramas with it, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence. It's a pity you can't upgrade the turbo, expecially given the quality control issues that have seen you lose 0.3 bar of boost on this turbo compared to the last one.
Yeah, and mahindra doesn't even acknowledge my public appreciation of the vehicle. That's exactly why I have a hj45 landcruiser on my logo instead of a mahindra. 👍
Yeah, it makes it bloody hard to love it when it sits in the dealerships workshop so many time compared to my 3 other 4x4's. And for a part to take so long to be sent out, just to have it fail as well. Thanks for watching mate. 👍
Well this is really disappointing. I know Mahindra are new not a new company so why the heck are these cars failing? The lack of parts combined, with lack of quality control is crazy. I saw another Mahindra (S11) review and the diff went at 1500km on the clock. It's just not good enough I think I'm gonna have to give buying one a miss and it's a shame because it's an affordable way to get out and see the country and occasional camping trips... I've got an MG3 sitting at 43,000km and had no issues and this is a budget Chinese car, (unreliable apparently) 🤣 Maybe I'll buy an MG ute when they release or or an LDV....
Yeah mate, the Chinese cars get a bad rap in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't buy another mahindra after having this many issues while still under warranty. Thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching. 👍😀
Yes I know of plenty that have done the same. But I also know of heaps that have had issues from time of purchase. That's the problem, mahindra have absolute crap quality assurance of their vehicles. The after sales service isn't much different. Plus to have a brand in Australia for over 10 years and still have stuff all parts availability is just down right ignoring their customers. I'll never buy from mahindra again. But I'm glad you are having a good run with yours. Safe travels 🙏
Thanks Graham for your honesty too. Your candour to call a spade a bloody shovel when product reliability and warranty backup disappoints, enhances your credibility imo.
No problem mate. I certainly don't get paid to say only the good things about them. I would rather read or see an honest opinion on something I'm going to spend my hard earned money on, that's for sure. 👍
Yeah, so does that mean all the rangers and highluxes that have DPF issues are in the same boat. My $50,000 Colorado spat an engine from new.....mate things happen to all brands, regardless of cost. But thanks for watching 👍
Don't believe your driving manors are at all any reason for the failing turbo, fact you say every service has had repairs under warranty, well shit that's a turn off , as you say warranty expires your either out of pocket or the cars down n out and no re sale value running so if it's dead it's scrap metal , sorry for being honest
@@grahamharris4wdadventures53 Graham I hope it works out alright for you , I got a diesel astra with major electrical gremlins and it's been a month straight no car no back up car , no expectations of a fix , decided Toyota's cost lots of money but have plenty of good reasons why , always improving reliability and support, well dealerships are everywhere and parts to usually, great to drive on or off road , and re sale value everyday of its life , biting the financial bullet and buying a hilux , cruiser is to much of a 4wd to me and uses lots more fuel
