It is a picture of Mahlers soul and fellings at the time he composed. All his sinfonies are expressions. with wide ranges . But when you feel other views in this music it‘s right and Wonderfull
This was recorded by Unitel in 1972 at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. It is an experience to attend a concert for the excellent acoustics, was there last September for Mahler's 4th, Daniel Harding, conducting.
Lenny had a better feel for Mahler than any other conductor, IMO. In the fourth movement, with contralto, "What Man Tells Me", the horns do a fine job in this performance. However, in the Chicago Symphony/Levine recording with Dale Clevenger on first horn, this 4th movement is unbeatable.
@@pavlelazarevic3270 Why 1973? Why not starting from 1966 (The year Bernstein started conducting for VF) ? But if this was a TV concert, it should be in September 1975.
