Mahmoud was my favorite player as a teenager growing up in Colorado as a Nuggets fan. I had his jersey and everything, I remember watching him have an amazing game when the Nuggets beat Jordan and the 72 win bulls. I also remember all the backlash around the anthem. I spoke to my dad about it, a military vet who served in two wars, the type of person you would think would be "offended" by this, and having him tell me it was perfectly fine that Mahmoud was my favorite player. My dad saw him as a thoughtful, soft spoken guy, who had a point of view and something he believed in, and thought he had every right to express his opinion. That's what the "military" fights for, everyone's right to speak their mind he said. I didn't think about this for a long time, but when the Kaepernick situation happed I did, and it really made me look back fondly on my father (who had since passed). Mahmoud is obviously still a very thoughtful, intelligent person today and it's an absolute shame how his career was cut short and I feel bad for how my team and my city treated him at the time. People really should go back and look at his highlights, an amazing shooter with an incredibly quick release. Really was like Steph Curry before that type of player existed. Good to hear from him here and see that he's doing well.

People keep saying Mahmoud was Steph before Steph but the truth is that Steph is Mahmoud of this era.
