@Thomas Jefferson Thomas, that was a real nice declaration but It actually is about fear, fear is how Azula controls people. By continuing to kiss Zuko even though Azula clearly wants to talk to Zuko, she shows that she cares more about kissing Zuko than following Azula's wishes. And since the reason she kisses Zuko is her love for him and since fear is the reason people obey Azula's orders, she demonstrates that she loves Zuko more than she fears Azula

I loooove the way Zuko smiles after Sokka's like, "That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?" Because as much as he gets frustrated when she "doesn't show emotion," it's also something he deeply admires about her. She's very stoic and open-minded, but she can still be cuttingly sarcastic, and I can tell in that smile that he loves that about her. I'm a straight girl, but even I can appreciate how damn sexy Mai is.

@@fahmi_simin639 (may contain spoilers) As far as I know offical comics were released as supplementing material during and after the shows run so I think it's pretty safe to say they are canon considering they were published in Nickledeon's pages. They touch stuff like the state of the countries after the war, the fire nation, what happened to Ursa and along with that story, we get more of Azula. Especially in "The Search" Azula with the Gaang, her emotional state, her relationship with her mother etc. You know, if you don't want to nobody has to read or whatever and the show gives a very good closure but I wanted more of ATLA once I had finished it and they were fun AND raising big questions at the same time about revolution and change. So for someone who wants a little more of Azula, getting her relationship and her craving for her mother's love, the comics might be what they are looking for. Just wanted to recommend them!

Fun fact I just learned. Whenever Mai speaks to Zuko affectionately or kissing him it’s on the scar side of his face. Whenever she is angry at him it’s in the unburned side. I personally take it as she looks at that and doesn’t see a monster or a stupid boy like everyone else but a man who would stand up for what he thinks is right.

@@yukosekiya7367 What I remember them being like before season 3: Season 1: Zuko trying to kill/capture them while constantly stalking Aang and using Katara's necklace as leverage to try to get her to betray Aang. Season 2: Rarely interacted with each other until the season finale where Zuko nearly switched to the good guys but didn't. And when they saw the Ember Island players hint at Zutara, both became really uncomfortable and scooted away from each other.

Everyone talks about zutara but completely forgets about mai. They really are a great couple that cares about each other. You can see that by the way they look into each other’s eyes and by the way Mai said to azula I love zuko more then I fear you after zuko left her literally.

They did get along very well under ba sing se so I don't think it was impossible, or maybe even very likely that it would have happened were mai not there

Zuko loves Mai and isn’t gonna randomly go head over heels for a girl he was trying to kill from the longest time and no; betrayal, death threats, and trying to hurt one another physically is not good “set up” no matter how much you want it to be. I loved this whole beach conversation part. It added so much depth to the characters, which I think is especially important for the villains. It makes them more human, more relatable, because they have problems that make them the way they are. The audience sees themselves in them, and that’s what makes them so scary. Everyone is scared of being the villain in their story. If you think about it, none of them at this point (except maybe Zuko) questions if they are the villain. Like the main characters, they had their trauma, and they are now following a path because of it to do what they think is right. It’s so much more profound and interesting than 1 dimensional villains that are “only” evil.

Well, Ozai is the main villain of the story, and he's pretty one-dimensional. But that's not a very bad thing. This story (and most stories) is mostly about fighting Evil, and Evil doesn't really have much else to do but be evil. Sauron is also one-dimensional, but it's also a great story with interesting characters and locations.

It seems to me that people aren't talking about it, but I really love the conversation between them in The Boiling Rock. This is why he could leave her - because she haven't known anything about his tribulation. In Zuko Alone he experiences the suffering of other people and the discrimination of the Fire Nation, and after that war-meeting he exactly knows that is bad in long-term for the Fire Nation people too. But she haven't even seen the civil population of the other countries; she's been just Azula's warrior-mate. So he didn't go away just because of his family members, but he also cared about his country - and the rest of the world.
