This was the turning point for Colby’s career. UFC was going to cut him because he was “boring.” Had to play the bad guy after this fight and now he’s gotten to where he is.
Man Colby's striking left a lot to be desired back then. Cesar Carneiro really tightened him up, he actually had decent power behind his shots against Usman in the last fight.
Usman and Colby seem to be in a race for whose pillow fists are turning into lead first. However, seems Usman is on the special sauce, he's winning the race.

I think that was a bullshit narrative Colby tried to start , Dana said he didn't plan on cutting Colby at all he was on a four or five fight win streak , Colby probably just wasn't getting the money he wanted in his next contract so he made up that narrative and created this persona to try to make that Conner money
The ufc really needs to add that weight class but I guess I can see their side of it , they don't want the ufc to get watered down with too many weight classes like boxing
Colby is going to struggle methinks. Not a hater, but all the factors. Kamaru has gotten better over 2 other fight, and has kept evolving with the same team and bringing in higher level training partners. Colby has been inactive, changed teams, is around lesser competition in the gym, and is currently at the point that a loss will send him pretty far down the ranks as a contender. Pressure is on and Usmans striking has gotten sharp.

Colby didnt want anything to do with maia on the ground or even in the clinch, he underestimated maia's striking in round 1 for sure. But that is a huge age gap. People like to think of this as a one sided smashing but really colby had to have his head pulled out of his ass after rd1. A smashing isnt usually a 29-28

Usman is just naturally the most powerful welterweight, he is a physical nightmare to deal with, he walks down guys who donot get walked down. A nigerian khabib in many ways. This is why ppl are hyped up for khamzat chimaev even tho he hasn't proved himself yet, bcuz he is also naturally very powerful

@@yeshuasage3724 Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, and Leon Edwards is a much better resume than what Khabib has put together. Usman is equal to or better than khabib in every aspect of MMA.

Here after the Usman rematch. He’s obviously improved, but it would’ve been nice if he had been able to fight several times and level up like Usman had.

It sucks to watch your favorite fighters get old. Colby still highly ranked but I know he’s only got maybe 1 year or possibly 2 left at the top of the sport. New hope for American wrestler mma fighters with Bo tho.
Colby has improved a lot! Tyron Woodley should have fought him next because that would have been his only change to beat Colby Before he became the Frozen One and before Colby learned to block lol. Same for Jorege. This Colby would have been the only time they would have been able to beat him. Now it's no contest.
