Now we know why he had to walk out to the runway and stand behind the model to attempt to takeoff. He doesn't know how to use the rudder. Way too much model for someone who can't use the rudder. It's not a lightly loaded foamy model for sure!!

I'm so glad that you said that. I have commented about guys who support the need to stand behind their plane on Maidens. Big arguments are stirred when you expose people's deficiencies. It's not a choice, they are compensating for their lack of skill. Which bites them later. Statements like " you can control it better when you stand behind the plane" so I asked "do you plan to land over your head? this guy acted like he didn't even know the plane had a rudder or needed it on takeoff, as well as landing. What can you say? Doesn't a person get advice from somebody or have someone with more experience stand there with him? It just doesn't make any sense but it is very entertaining😅😅😅

Seems that the pilots at this club have very nice taste in planes, but nowhere near the skill-level needed to fly them. Learn a smaller planes, guys.
@mam362

Not knowing this pilot's flying history I cannot comment on whether he had sufficient experience to fly this craft. However, I'd like to think I would have the wisdom to shut off the throttle and abort the takeoff the moment the plane veered off course instead of trying to make it fly at that point.

It is all about power to weight ratio and this plane lacked the power to reach sufficient airspeed. Watch videos' of how the Germans' fly their models. More often than not their takeoffs are identical to what is shown in this video. They always seem to have the power to overcome their incompetence.

More about lack of rudder, 2:36 shows it locked on straight with no attempt to correct swing.
@BaronVonEvil1
@BaronVonEvil1 Год назад
Arm chair guessing here, First like a few mentioned, it appears the right rudder did not move to keep the plane going straight along the runway. Looking at time 2:36, the rudder is straight, without any right hand deflection. Second the aircraft appears a bit tail heavy as it left the ground being a bit pitch sensitive. Third, the wood prop may have been damaged going through the weeds and lost some of its effectiveness resulting in a poor climb out. It looked like a really nice model. The flight should have been aborted as soon and the plane turned away from the asphalt.
@emanuelmota7217
@emanuelmota7217 Год назад
The pilot did not input right rudder, whcih ir pretty much required on all warbird takeoffs. Then he compounded his error by not aborting the takeoff once he was off the runway. Hard to tell if the plane was tail-heavy. More likely is he just didn't have enough airspeed so he tip-stallaed. If appears thsi guy does now know how to fly warbirds.

When a pilot has to stand BEHIND the plane to take off - that's a bad sign.
@flycatchful
@flycatchful 5 месяцев назад
Who told you that? The reason you don't see that too often is because of the AMA safety guidelines. Most flying clubs are AMA sanctioned and most adhere to their rules. Standing behind you plane is normally only done on the maiden flight. It allows you a 360 degree field of view to safely track your takeoff roll. This is paramount when flying a taildragger configured model.

Yes by using a bit of right rudder to counter the propeller slipstream effect, which he did not do at any moment! It’s very usual that RC planes turn to the left on takeoff due to the engines rotating clockwise when looked from the spinner aft.

@@jeffs7915 Well compensation is a must, and with max power you must work the rudder! Any prop plane should be adjusted well for a certain speed, mostly a normal cruise setting, where it does go straight and level without any input. There are high-performance propeller planes on which even the vertical stabiliser is set at a small angle. Not to speak about how the engine must also be installed with proper angles already. All

lack of engine right incidence
@jeffs7915
@jeffs7915 Год назад
You're joking aren't you? You know that you can never completely dial out the tendency for airplanes to turn left when increasing speed? He would have had to mount the engine on the right side of the fuselage to counter act that pull. Modifications to the engine incidence are not meant to compensate for lack of flying skills they're only meant to make the plane fly a little bit better and a little easier and a little straighter. Those modifications are made after a successful flight. Which we will never see with this guy. Perhaps you don't know what you're talking about?
@marcojaric4030
@marcojaric4030 Год назад
@@jeffs7915 Every plane must have right antitorque incidence, contraprops too!. big petrols engines with long props and high torque need it! this of first of rc modelism. @jeffs7915 Год назад
@@marcojaric4030 your initial statement which is rather short , makes you sound like Moses coming down from Mount Sinai like an 11th commandment.. the proper incidence may have been in there we don't know. Are you're saying if he had the proper amount of right incidence he wouldn't have needed to use right rudder on takeoff? You know I heard it rumored that a few manufacturers of arfs, as this was one at one time for a brief time, actually put some right incidence into the firewall during assembly Rumor Has It. So how much right thrust and perhaps down, should he have put in without ever having flown it? Just eyeball it? Go by other recommendations of Flyers of a similar plane Maybe? Why don't you just go back to your slide rule!😜 wow that comment about foamies really hurt. I hope my Hobby King GB R1 35cc doesn't hear about it which I fly often.

@@marcojaric4030 I am not saying don't set up plane properly , just that the proximate cause of the crash was not failure to have right incidence as you said with your brief statement. You would know this and would i.d. same if you were any kid of a flyer, but it's hard to fly when you have your head so far up your own .😅

@@hayloft3834 wait, which hand do I wipe my ass with, oh yeah right, that's how I remember to use right rudder on take offs, Hey if it happens there's a crosswind 90 degrees on the right wing weathervaning plane to the right that exactly matches the gyro process of prop, p-factor, engine torque, and asymmetrical air flow on rudder, if you match the forces against the crosswind, rudder may not be needed at all. There is hope.😇

Building the new version of this P51 and looking at the instructions I'm thinking he had too much throw for the elivator and ailerons if he set the throws according to the instructions. The instructiuons say 75mm up and 75mm down on the elivator and 45mm up and 45mm down on the ailerons which is way too much. If you want that much you need to increase the expo on the radio very high so it's very soft in the center stick controll. He also staled the plane probably because the elivator had so much elivator applied while taking off. On most simular size planes you would use 20mm up 20mm down on the elivator and 25mm up and 25mm down on the aileron. Then add 40 % expo to soften the middle. -40% on Futaba.

Ooh that hurts. Such a beauty. But this is pilot error. No take off flaps. To much power . No up elevator on initial take off roll to keep tail on ground and correct right rudder. No wait for stable straight takeoff run before applying more power. Could have abborted take off but gave Full power was abrupt. In air over correct to the right, causing left wing stall. All very easy to say now😊. Hope u fix and fly another day..
