My flying buddy (Dave) has recently got into 3D printing planes for FPV... and of course he started with one of the biggest you can find, the Titan Avenger! 😅 This really cool 'predator' like model has a 2.2meter wingspan and has an all up weight of approx 3kg with 2 x 7,000 4s2p 18650 in parallel. We knew this wasn't going to be the easiest to launch so we gave it full throttle and a good hard throw! As you can see it looks great in the air and it can really shift when it needs to. Dave was flying quite fast everywhere (like me he doesn't enjoy flying economically or at cruise throttle) and I think we worked out he could stay in the air around 1hour flying like that... god knows how long it would stay in the air if he tried to fly efficiently. The only problem he had on the day is landing. We knew this would be the most tricky part. It's on a narrow rough road, or in the bushes. Landing in the bushes put too much stress on the fuselage part where the wings join it and did a little damage on both landings. Next time it will be a road landing with something on the belly to protect it (wheels, skids etc).
The footage in this video is from the O3 air unit on my Zcon and from the Walksnail avatar pro vtx on the Avenger. However, Dave hadn't updated the firmware so the footage couldn't be stabilised in Gyroflow. The fixed camera on the ground is a Runcam 2 and it really didn't handle the bright sky very well.

Yeah I'm not sold on 3D printed planes yet but I can definitely see the appeal. Dave has some good ideas for making it more durable so we'll see how it goes 😃

looking at the specifications I see that it uses 18650 batteries in parallel with a capacity of 7A, I imagine that it will use the molicell M35A, the doubt that I believe is that these batteries have a 10A discharge that when used in 2 parallels it has 20A to discharge, it is enough discharge for the engine you use? The controller does not restart due to the lack of power?

Not its running 2 x 4s2p packs in parallel. Essentially a 4s4p with the ability to output continuous 40a. More than enough for this plane which does not output 40a on full throttle :)

I have just finished printing mine, and plan to have it ready to fly very soon! It prints very well and has some nice design features. I have been printing rc places for over 4 years now and love it. They really are getting better and better, nows a great time to get a printer and try it out for your self !

Funny I went the other way and built a wooden wing. Oldschool model works Bat. Woods ALOT easier to cover than foam btw

Looks great in dayglow green....A distance cruiser on calm days I would suggest...You need soft heather to land it on though, thats my experience with printed planes....🤔😳😏😏🇬🇧

Awesome, I just recently had a Titan Falcon maiden, also successful. What filament did u use? I printed mine Falcon with eSUN and should say it's very bad, would never use it again. A few days ago I got Polymaker delivered from the US, right now printing Titan Micra Talon, much much better!!!

I have heard that some of these designs are lighter and stronger than equivalent plane made in foam…has LW-PLA finally come of age?

I'm not sure about stronger, I can ditch any foam plane in those bushes with no damage all day long, but the 3d printed material seems a bit brittle for that. He just needs to work out how best to land it without taking on damage now.

Wow, it looks great in the sky. i'm still not convinced that 3D printed planes are ideal for the rough terrain, foam is still more suitable and tougher. But it's a great way of making things fly :-)

What's the adage, A Nose heavy plane flies badly, A 3D printed plane flies once!!! lol It was very impressive and majestic in the air. As you say, If you get it in the air ok, great, but getting it on the ground without breaking something is even harder.

Haha yeah not far from the truth. Maybe if you have a really nice flat field with well kept grass you'd never have any issues. For most people this isn't the case though. We'll see how it goes over the rest of the summer

Great edit and nice flying. Excellent flyby's. Like how the single Titan Avenger seems to be going as fast as the Zcon Twin. No eco-cruising mode here. Do you apply any protection to the bottom to help protect underbelly on landings? Abrasion is one area I have concern.

Yeah it's keeping up absolutely fine when the Zcon is cruising... once the throttle is opened up on the Zcon it stands no chance though. But it's not really designed for high speed flight. He's currently working on a way to protect the belly on road landings... as it seems the bushes cause too much leverage on the wings to damage the part where they join the fuselage. Not sure if it will be skids or small wheels yet.
