Mail deliveries in some south Seattle neighborhoods are being halted, forcing thousands of people to go to their local carrier annex to pick up their mail.
"We deliver for you," is the slogan for the United States Postal Service. But lately, in some neighborhoods throughout south Seattle, that message hasn't been received.
"Why is the box empty all the time? So, we were worried too that somebody was taking our mail but apparently, this is what's happening," said Veronica Cannon.
Officials with the U.S. Postal Service told KING 5 that some customers in zip code 98118, which stretches from Columbia City to Rainier Beach, have been directed to pick up their mail at the Columbia Carrier Annex along Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

I use to go to Seattle multiple times a week. Everything has gone downhill so bad. My favorite street parking areas are gone, favorite clubs are mostly gone. Areas that meant so much to me in the late 90s and early 2000s are just gone. It's so sad. I never imagined I would feel so out of sorts in a city that once felt like my playground.

I've lived in Seattle for over 40 yrs, and I'm good, this city has faltered for far too long to be even remotely ignored, I'm moving out end of this year. City counsel members have failed its people.

Please me tell you have pictures from 30, 40 years ago. It looked like such a neat artisty kinda city. Sometimes I look up what seattle looked like thru the decades to compare. And yea these newest pictures don't paint the city in its best of days. Sorry to say. Bet it's hard tho. I mean you called this place home for a long time and, I'm sure you liked the milder temps and slightly gray skies that keep too much sun out while not being too cold.

This isn’t just a Seattle problem, the USPS needs more locksmiths! I live in Richland and when the lock on our CBU was malfunctioning in March, we were told at least June before they could fix it. As it was left unlocked, the neighbors were able to fix it in about 10 minutes…..

Mail Theft. There is only so much the USPS can do to accommodate an area getting hit by vandalism and theft. Communities need to step up as well with community surveillance or something. It is out of control in rural areas already. So neighbors are beginning to keep a watchful eye out for theifs. Urban areas are tighter and should be able to organize something to make their presence known.

The USPS should set up mail collection vans. Residents would come to the van, parked at a designated location between certain hours, and collect their mail. Problem solved. A police officer could be present at the collection van to help ensure safety.

I check my mailbox once every three weeks. It's filled with flyers and account statements that i can retrieve online. It's not good that mailboxes are burgled. But i receive little of value in them.

We could start by hiring police and maybe enforcing laws then actually locking up criminals instead feeling bad for them and releasing them with a slap on the wrist because "prisons are overcrowded plz think of the poor criminal drug addict 🥺" . It's these people who "feel bad" for the addicts who are enabling these crazies to keep being crazy and ruin our streets. Everywhere I go there's some drug addict either asking money or cigarettes. It's like dude why don't we just enact common sense and start arresting people then maybe putting them in rehabilitation or half way housing? I get addicts need help but what seattle is doing isn't helping. It's enabling.

Well, if their idea of a notification is to tape a piece of paper in a sheet protector to a mailbox in an area where there's too much theft and vandalism of mailboxes, it's not surprising that the message didn't reach everybody.

glad i left seattle and united states. It got so bad I had MAJOR depression. I've since moved over-seas and my wallet, and mental well-being haven't stopped thanking me.
