A general overview of the Main Eco Compact boiler and why we think it's a great choice for Landlords on a budget. The Eco Compact boiler comes with a 5-year warranty.
This boiler is designed to fit into a kitchen cupboard giving it maximum flexibility when deciding where to site the boiler.
This boiler is the 25kW which will give 10.2 l/min of hot water. The next size up is the 30kW and this will give 12.2l/min of hot water.
The Main Eco Compact is based on the Baxi 600 and 800 boiler range (7 and 10-year warranties respectively). Main is a sister company of Baxi so this means it's not a cheap copy but a boiler full of quality.
In this installation, we coupled it with the MagnaClean Pro 2 filter, Calmag Limescale Inhibitor, EPH Combi Pack 4 wireless room stat (open-therm compatible with the Eco Compact boiler) and we used Adey's MC1+ and MC3+ chemicals for cleaning and protecting the heating system.

Does it come with a filling loop?

Yes, this boiler comes with a filling loop which attaches to the valves on the right hand side under where the pressure gauge is. Hope this helps, Cheers, Dan

Hi are the main combi just a baxi series meaning same parts inside just different badge and does it have that awkward prv to pipe in.

It's pretty much identical to the Baxi 600 and Baxi 800. The differences are pretty much the badges and warranty length. The Main boiler doesn't allow it to be rear piped without a standoff bracket...for some reason they put a metal plate across to prevent this. So you have to buy an extra standoff bracket to rear pipe the boiler. Whereas the 600 and 800 can be rear piped straight from the box. The Main Eco Compact comes with a filling loop attached to the bottom right hand corner. The Main filling loop is a rigid copper loop with brass valves for isolation. I've recently filmed how to top up the pressure on a Main Eco Compact Boiler, I will get it posted asap and drop a link when I have.

Hi does boiler come with hard wear pack copper fittings.

Yes, comes with valves that fit under the boiler for each connection and then separate copper tails which have swept bends. Also comes with the hard piped filling loop that connects onto cold and return valves

Hi, I have recently Installed the same boiler, After one week, I have noted that the boiler is constantly running/burning gas even it's not in use. It stops running after shutting the hot water from the valve of the boiler. Please advice what is the fault? Thanks

The boiler will continue to run the pump for a short while afterwards to help remove heat from the boiler. Otherwise do any symbols flash when the boiler is not in use? The tap symbol or radiator symbol?

@@dpjplumbing hi, Thank you for you prompt reply. Yes both gas and water symbols are constantly flushing with vessel noise. Both symbols and vessel voice has stopped only after shutting hot water supply from boiler's volve which is 2nd from the Right-hand side. I have not used central heating yet. Thanks

@@Fshah1 if it is stopping when you turn off the water supply to boiler, that would suggest something is running/leaking which is making the boiler think a tap is running which is causing it to fire up and run.

@@dpjplumbing Hi, will it run even there is slow leaking? Is there any Instrument which can trace the exact location of the leaking? New piping in extension has been done 2 years ago and it is under wooden flooring in the concrete floor. Thanks.

Having one of these installed ( straight swap for a ideal logic) for £1800. Is this a fair price for this?

Hi, Lots of factors involved which can dictate the value to cost ratio. What extra components are you having installed along side it; heating controls, filters, limescale inhibitors etc How does the flue run? Ie; horizontal, vertical, does it need extension pieces or bends etc Are they including a heating system flush? What is their reputation? Do they have good after service? How quick they managed to fit you in? Etc Is this a fixed quote/price or is it subject to change at the end of the job? A larger business may have higher overheads than that a sole trader. All these things add up/go into a final price. If in doubt, you can always get some more quotes off other gas engineers/businesses to compare the cost and what you'll get in return for your money. I think this boiler is very good value for the cost of the boiler itself. I know this doesn't answer your question directly but hope it helps your understanding towards the total cost of your install.

How would I connect a hive to this boiler

I think hive needs Live Neutral and earth connections going to the receiver. Then it's 2 wires for switching it on/off. It would be wired in the same way as other thermostat receivers. It's pretty simple but does require the front cover to be removed which would mean you should have a Gas Safe Registered Engineer do it.

Hi John, The thermostat I used is the EPH Combi Pack 4 Wireless Thermostat. The wiring for the receiver needs a live and neutral + 2 wires for either Open Therm connection or standard on off control. The Thermostat is battery operated and comes with 2x AA batteries

Thank you for the reply. Looking at the installation manual of the boiler, Figure 35 on page 42 shows opentherm low voltage pins as pins 1&2 so that goes to the receivers opentherm terminals right? Is there any particular direction? Is there a + & - for the opentherm connections? Also, for the live and neutral, can I just take the connection from the live and neutral of the boiler? That way the thermostat will be on the same boiler fused spur or should I install another fused spur for the thermostat receiver? Thank you.

@@johnroberts5357 I take the live and neutral from the boiler so that if I isolate the boiler from the electrics it also isolates the receiver. It also looks neater having a single wire going from boiler to receiver. As far as I know the OpenTherm can be connected either way. I've not had any issues doing it that way. Make sure you're connecting the OpenTherm into the OpenTherm connections on both boiler and receiver....OpenTherm runs at about 10v so connecting it wrong (240v) could seriously damage boiler/receiver. The information for the OpenTherm connections can be found in the boiler installation manual. (They are the first 2 connection points on the black/brown terminal block from memory) The OpenTherm connections on the EPH receiver are in the little black connection box. This is pretty obvious.

@@johnroberts5357 Also if you connect it via OpenTherm the two dials on the boiler will not do anything. It will be controlled from the Thermostat itself as the OpenTherm controls bypass the boilers set temps so that it can be more fuel efficient.

Directly under the right hand side of the boiler there should be 2 little blue levers. Both of these need to be quarter turned to allow water to pass through to top the pressure. They can sometimes be stiff, best do one first and then the other so you can regulate how much pressure is going through. Hope that helps!

@@NeluCiupitu it needs a controller/thermostat for the boiler to work correctly to turn the heating on and off. Otherwise it the link inside the boiler can be removed to turn the heating off but this won't turn the heating back on until the link is put back. The reason these boilers require a controller/thermostat is because this is a minimum requirement all modern boilers should have to help with energy efficiency.

@@dpjplumbing no it’s only a few months old the electric went and it just wouldn’t light up on the screen as if it was not getting any power the spark even wired a new fuse spair in all the way to the fuse board so the boiler is getting power but nothing seems to be going to the boiler we thought there was a brake in the wire it’s got a few people baffled

@@ivecamperbuild_thomas4084 These (and most modern boilers) boiler have very sensitive fast blow fuses that are inside the boiler itself. These are designed to protect the sensitive PCB components inside. I've known these to blow if something inside the house has tripped the main electric supply. From what you're describing that sounds like the issue. There are 2 of these fast blow fuses inside the boiler but it is likely only one has blown. Easy and cheap fix if this is the issue. Otherwise it could be the main PCB inside the boiler that has broken. Get the fast blow fuses checked out first! Let me know how you get on. Cheers, Dan DPJ Plumbing Heating and Gas

@@ivecamperbuild_thomas4084 It's part of the connector block which the mains feed connects to the boiler. There are 2 little black tabs on both the live and neutral that will pull out of the block. These contain the fuses. Always use a Gas Safe Engineer when there is an issue inside the boiler. Hope that helps!

The link wire is inside the control panel part of the boiler. Near the power supply point. I wouldn't recommend attempting to do this without a Gas Safe Engineer, as it requires taking the front of the case off which will disturb the seal which keeps the boiler room sealed. Cheers, Dan

Yes you need to buy a programmable thermostat separately. There are a few reasons it doesn't come with one: It would bump up the overall price of the boiler There is so much choice of 3rd party stats that it is better for customer to purchase what they want. Boilers require specific controls to comply with the Boiler Plus Regs. There will be other reasons but they're the main ones I can think of right now

@@jewelmiahhaye9431 definitely power at the fuse spur? These boilers have "fast blow fuses" inside to prevent damage to the PCB and other components. They are very sensitive and easily blow. That could be one reason. Or the PCB is broken. Could be other things but without seeing it myself I couldn't be sure.
