Woody Strode was the Jackie Robinson of pro football. He and Kenny Robinson broke the color barrier after World War II, playing for the Los Angeles Rams in 1946, months before Jackie broke in for the Dodgers in the spring of 1947. Woody spent most of 1952 on the wrestling circuit, while also working as an actor, with minor roles in several movies. His 35 year movie career took off, and he is best remembered for his role in Spartacus, where he plays Draba, the Ethiopian slave ordered to fight Spartacus to the death. Draba wins the fight, but rather than killiing Spartacus, he kills the Roman military commander, sparking the rebellion. Woody died in 1994. He was a WWII veteran, so he was buried in Riverside National Cemetery. His grave - and that of his wife - is practically next to the grave of my Uncle - a WWii, Korea, and Vietnam veteran, and that of my aunt. Whenever I visit, I always pay respects to Woody and Luana. He's an American hero who should not be forgotten.
@nomikes4392 His facial resemblance to Broderick Crawford is noticeable, and Crawford played the FBI Director in "The Secret Files of J. Edgar Hoover". But I suspect you're referring to George's frock. Old Eddie was said to be fond of dressing up, too.
