Main power alternator fuse breaker replacement in Lexus, Toyota, etc. Jumped car backwards. - VOTD 

I literally almost sold my car to a junk yard today because I was too frustrated to keep fixing it. I got the bright idea to check the fuse panel and sure enough, the alternator fuse was blown. This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!!

I have never installed the battery backwards in my life. 51 years. Did it today and my symptoms were exactly the same. Thanks for posting this. Wish me luck. That 120 amp was indeed blown now I’m gonna see if I can pull this joker apart.

Thank you! This was extremely helpful. The dealership said this was a three-hour job for a trained technician. I was able to do this in less time. The tricky part, as mentioned, is releasing the four tabs to slide up the fuse panel to access the bolts holding the Alt 120V fuse in place. I found it helpful to remove the battery so I could move the fuse compartment to provide slack in the power line so I could slide up and move it out of the way. I found it difficult to grab onto the fuse box to slide it out without damaging the casing. I used a crowbar to gently push up on the fuse box from underneath where the power had been connected. Finally, I found that the Alt 120 fuse was just one of five or so fuses that had been ruined by the incorrect connection of the battery terminals. In addition to four fuses in the engine compartment, the Ignition fuse under the drivers side near the brake was ruined. Once I replaced the five fuses, the car started. Thank you!

I flipped my polarity while instaling the battery and rushing one day. I was told by a lexus specialist that i definitely fried the "Computer" & "Alternator" ... He also has one to sell me conveniently for $350 and would install it for $150... Lol I looked into it myself and found the Fusible Link for the Alternator was blown the reson hardly nothing was working. Main problem discovered but your video showed me how to get the fricking thing out! Thanks! The wife wont be getting that Tesla anytime soon Lol

Same problem im having right now! Amazing video, because LexusOwnersClub and lxls have nothing on this! He covered the shifting symptom (shiftlocks) along with lights, fans etc being the reason they don’t work when the main (120a) blows

Very helpful pointing out the 8 and 10mm hiding down there, but getting the box separated and raised up was not happening, much easier to pull the battery and cut the fuse box on both sides to access the 8 and 10mm. pieces of plastic glued on covered up access cuts, cant tell It was cut,,,

Very helpful. I was thinking about buying a 98 GS300 with only 124K on it and the alternator is not charging. I CANNOT believe a Lexus/toyota alternator went bad at 124K and I checked the fuse but it looks okay. So I am going to put in alternator before I buy the car. Would rather spend 140.00 as opposed to buy and it be something else. Car seems perfect in everyway except the text on the radio is gone.

What would cause an alternator fuse to blow? I have an aftermarket H/O with 2 runs of 0 gauge wire to battery positive. But why would the stock Alternator 100A fuse blow? This is bad because it stops my instrument cluster panel from working.

Great info! But, This fuse box is very different than a 1999 Lexus RX300.

I did the same thing pulled it out and only the plastic fuse casing came out so what I did was put a piece of wire there temporary to keep the car driving temporary ...now I see how easy it is ill get that part asap

Hello! Very helpful video. I had my battery replaced and alternator replaced but the alternator is registering low and sometimes not charging the battery. We didn't replace any fuses. Also my power steering has been acting weird. I will replace that soon. Any suggestions?

Assuming this is very similar for the LS430. I have a 2002 with a blown Alt 140A

had no idea that was even there!

I put the battery the wrong way but I realized it before I fully put the negative terminal on the positive post, car won't turn at all and no dashboard lights...do u think this might solve the problem?

Hi Robert, I turned on my wipers when they were stuck in ice and the wiper-motor strained, then all the dash warning lights came on and the alternator stopped charging. Do you think I caused a power surge which could have killed the alternator/main power fuse? Thanks, Acme

Great video. But can you help diagnose this problem: I helped my son-in-law replace a serpentine belt (04 Corolla). And in order to do it he took the alternator completely out (also to help make it easier to replace the thermostat). When we put the alternator back in and hooked everything up, we found all kinds of electrical problems: no lights, no gauges, no speedometer, no door locks, windows won't roll up or down, gearshift won't come out of park, no A/C, etc., etc. One clue, possibly: forgot to disconnect battery before removing alternator. Could this have caused something to blow? Thanks -- if you are able to help!

I have a 1998 Lexus LS400. While jump starting it I accidentally hooked up the cables incorrectly. I blew several blade type fuses (7.5, 10, 15) which I've replaced in both the fuse panel of the engine compartment as well as under the dash. The car starts fine but I have no dash warning lights at start up, no instrument lights on the dash when running, no brake lights and it is locked in park. I've checked all the large fuses 80 amp etc located at the engine end of the fuse panel under the hood and they are fine. Any ideas?

Where did you find the fuse at? I went to all my local auto parts stores, but the one they have in stock isn't the same size as the OEM one and doesn't fit properly. When I plugged it in my alternator started smoking before I could even turn the car on. I have a Lexus SC300

I have a 2002 gs300 and a year ago my wife tried to give me a jump and as the cables were connected to my battery and caused the neg and pos to touch and sparked and caused my car to never run the same ive been through 2 batteries but it takes a long time till my battery starts smelling like eggs and my fuse for the radio alarm and trunk light when i put the fuse in the running day lights are on and ignition is on if i turned the key one over but the key isnt in its reversed like im getting power from the fuse being in so i have to take out fuse causing me to not have alrm or inter dome light or trunk light or heater or ac what is causing that dome fuse to get power as if my key is in turned on 1

Why have a nice fuse that looks so easy to remove if you're gonna make it such a task to actually replace it...

Hey so I degreased my engine without unhooking the battery I know dumb was in a rush not thinking anyway the battery was pretty wet and at first the dash would light up and lights would work really dim then it just stopped all power when I turn the key nothing I even pit in a new battery still nothing help would be appreciated
