The battery may look good but under load it doesn't register. So my guess is get a new battery and if the memory isn't shorted or fried it should work fine. I said this before I saw your end result of getting a new battery. I remember having a similar problem with a calculator I was scratching my head because i had a new battery I bought it was a two pack so the first one i tried didn't work but the second one did. But hey you got to troubleshoot it and now you know there is nothing wrong with any parts its just a battery.

Howdy Larry, was just thinking about you, hope your feeling better and you'll be back on terrorizing soon! :) Yes, spent 70 min to figure out bad battery, a valuable lesson learnt at the end of this video...I took the battery at face value of being new and showing a charge on the DMM...now I have that little nugget and will look at current forth wit! Thanks for watching! ~Jack, VEG

Thank you! I replaced a battery a couple of weeks ago and today the scale was dead. I tried two different batteries (same brand). After watching your video I got a different brand of a battery and it worked.

Do you have a calibration procedure for a mainstays ek9180WM? Mine functions but only shows 2 of the 4 units it was able to display before it lost calibration. It is similar to the one in this video. I’ve discovered that by holding both unit and tare together and then releasing and tapping tare after about 8 seconds I then access C - 15. After that, I’m able to get different results. Sometimes I can tap through 1-00 or 2-00 or I’ll get the scale to display numerical readings that react to weight. It currently shows the weight of 6 nickels at 15g. In any event, I’m simply guessing. If you have a procedure, I would be eternally grateful, and can go back to weighing hops for my homebrew

Howdy! I do not unfortunately, however a quick Google search, I come up with this PDF (www.acurite.com/media/manuals/00939-instructions.pdf) that mentions how to calibrate, however, it sounds like you may have found hidden controls?? Wish I could help more. All my best. ~Jack, VEG

I have the same scale and it suddenly weighing 50% less. I put a 2lb weight on it and it says 1lb. Foot pads are good. Battery is new. I had to go buy a new (different) scale.

There is on extremely annyoing thing with almost all digital scales, the auto power off function. If you take too long when you are mixing your ingredients, the scale shuts off on you and you have to start over again. Is it possible to identify which component on the circuit board that is responsible for the auto shut off function, and somehow disable it so that the scale will stay on until you press the power off button?

Different channel, same problem: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nWK3DwFeo5M.html Looks like poorly manufactured lithium cells with high internal resistance are a real epidemic, even reputable brands do not seem to be immune to them performing all over the map. (I can't believe there'd be this many expired cells out there.) I guess people wanted cheap, people got cheap. Good enough for a CMOS battery, I suppose... The funny thing is, I recently had to swap the battery in my kitchen scale as well, and it still read a bit over 3 V unloaded. BTW, confusing capacity and current is a real newbie mistake.

Howdy POET! - Yeah, I seen Daves video, I know he had commented here as well....just under your comment. Yep, need to insure they are fresh indeed and better quality. I have never had an issue with these cheap ones, I use a lot, I have a lot of cameras and they work great for memory backup but just can't cut the mustard apparently for this. I am a rookie. :) Learning electronics after a 30+ year hiatus from it...doing this for fun in retirement...it's either this or go crazy! :) Thanks for watching! ~Jack, VEG

I would guess a defective battery or accidentally used the old one.

The digital multimeter using takes very little electricity to measure the battery. Or any other power supply you can get a potential voltage from the battery that will read good but it does not have enough cranking power so to speak to start your device just like a car battery it may run the radio and the daash lights but not enough to crank the engine. I have found the easiest thing to do in a situation like this is take a 1K resistor across your multimeter leads when testing a battery will let you know if the battery has any current. In vintage electronics everything took so much current to operate you very seldom got false readings. Also a VTVOM works a lot better for testing batteries like that because it takes a little more current to operate the meter.

Thank you very much for your valued input, I appreciate you helping me out! I will "try" and remember that tip for the next time around. Since this video, I have accrued a VTVM...I like test gear allot..I have been collecting allot! :) Mainly stuff I can use...Thanks again! ~Jack, VEG

You know I have a lot of small measurement equipment such as vernier Callipers and some I bought for repair. I have a lot of problems with the battery holder contacts. Once they loose the plating you can clean them repeatedly but they never stay good for long. Best regards Chris

I can't beleive that in this day and age, an actual adult would use the word "retarded" in a public video. You lost me at that very moment. I will resist a thumbs down, but seriously, grow up.
@VintageElectronicsGeek
@VintageElectronicsGeek 3 года назад
Steven - I apologise, I just saw this comment, I don't always get notified, RU-vid is retarded! As far as you being offended over my use of a word, I cant help you...this is on you, either you need to understand and deal with the fact that people are not here to make you feel good, only you and your doctor can do that, I'm sure there's something you do that I don't like...but you don't hear me complain, I just deal with it and move on. :) As an adult you'd be amazed at what words I use, and boy do I use them all...you think of it, I use it openly and freely...you know why? Because a) they are there b) I can and c) I don't let words offend me! They are just words, they're is no power in them...only if you are weak and timid and cant handle life in general. Furthermore, I do not allow people to think for me, tell me what to do and when to do it, I am a very strong and secure white male and very freaking proud of it....I hate p*ssies! and cowards, can not stand a loser liberal and I am not very impressed with today's society as it has bumped its head and now is a little retarded...if you understand what the true meaning of the word retarded is, then you'll understand I used it properly in this statement and in my video....but I don't think you do, thus your comment. You probably don't know this but, in the world of auto repair, the word "retarded" is used often, are you going to try and shame them? Respectfully, how about you grow some thick skin and don't allow little things bother you so much and understand, life is not about you and your little feelings and don't put so much stock in words, take the power away from them! Be strong, be a man! However with that all said, I do appreciate your input. Warmest Regards ~ Jack, VEG
