My son is my son's second Christmas on his own. When his Grandfather passed away he was able to buy the farm his Great Grandfather started over 100 years ago. He's only 24 but an old soul. He asked for a cast iron frying pan for Christmas this year. He's a bachelor and loves to cook!

Hello, Miss Lori and Mr. Brown ... Thanks for putting out another video. Everyone of them makes me smile; yes, everyone of them. Thank you once again for creating this wonderful community. And thank you for taking care of all of us. On another subject, just checking on whether you received the second of Frankie’s books. You should have received a couple of copies of “Homestead” in the mail. If you haven’t received them, please let me know and I’ll handle things from my end. BTW, this camera view showing your kitchen from this angle is delightful. It shows a wonderful perspective of the way you’ve set everything up. And one last note... gotta say this: I absolutely LOVE the color of the hoodie you’re wearing. It is definitely one of your colors; it makes your eyes and complexion just ‘pop’. Blessings to both you and Danny.

I love the cast iron pots, they are beautiful. I bet there will be some good stews, beans and soups going in them. Goodness, whatever you make it will be delicious cooked in cast iron. I love cooking in my cast iron pots and skillet’s. My mama left me her cast iron skillet’s, some were her mothers. I imagine they are 100 years old. I’m 72 so I know they’re old. I will leave them to our children. I pray Mr. Brown will enjoy his retirement and that God will bless him with wonderful health. This is a wonderful video. God bless you both. ❤❤

I had a stained dutch oven that belonged to my grandmother. I thought oxy-clean is good for getting stains out, and I believe it is non toxic, so I soaked it in hot water and oxy-clean, and it came out beautifully clean and stain free. I was pleasantly surprised. Of course, I washed and rinsed it well afterwards. As far as my cast iron pans which are very old, I only use water, kosher salt to clean, and peanut oil to season. Blessings...Cindy Ps...I found an old Griswold at a thrift store thst was very crusty. I had my husband put it inside the wood burner. It took everything off really well. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you have tongs or welders gloves...but I didnt even have to scrape it.

I may try the oxy-clean I have two and the one used most often got stained and resorted to bleach and hot water soak over night. Prob not recommended for the finish but came out really clean and I washed with soapy water and rinsed it well afterward, After doing that repeatedly finish a little rough but I still use it. I often use Bar Tenders Friend on my pots rinse and dry thoroughly immediately and keeps the bottoms nice looking. Good quality pots are easier to maintain.

You will love it. Just dont use tomatoes or lemon inside of them when you first get the pan. Acids eat right through the curing coat. Get one of those silicone red handles that easily slip on and off to protect your hands. I use mine to fry things up and to make cornbread. Nothing sticks. While it is warm I give it a good wash with warm water, dry it right away and recoat it with oil ysing a paper towel. I keep mine on the stove. They are an excellent and inexpensive purchase. I have a lot of cast iron. After use, I always wash it with soap and water and dry it thoroughly. If I'm going to store it for a while, I use a little oil on it. If I find a little rust I just coat it with oil and bake it in the oven for about an hour on 350. My mother gave me my grandmother's cast iron skillet and dutch oven. They were coated with rust. I googled it and found out you just scrub it with steel wool, coat it with oil and bake it in the oven. I can't bring myself to not wash my cast iron. Gotta keep it clean. As far as the enamel coated pot, my first thought was bleach so I googled it and the directions were to use baking soda and water and boil it on the stove or use bleach and just let it set for awhile.

I may be a city girl now, but I LOVE my cast iron pans! I only have one enameled cast iron pan, but I use the powdered Bar Keeper's Friend on the inside of mine to remove stains. It's gentler than other powdered cleaners, so it doesn't harm the enamel coating. It brought mine back to almost new-looking. I also use it on the enameled pans on my gas stove and it really helps get off burnt on spills and makes them shiny. Love your channel!

Now that I see your pot I will say how I have cleaned the stains from mine. Fill the bottom of the pot about 1/2 inch deep with water. Bring to a boil. Once boiling pour in your baking soda, plenty, don’t be shy. As it’s boiling use a wooden spoon to “scrub” the bottom of the pot. I burned rice pudding in mine and it came up almost perfect. You may need to dump the water and repeat the process but it will work.

Mrs. Lori, my Daddy comes over and asks to watch Whooperwill Holler. We love it! I enjoyed this one. I've seasoned my cast iron in the oven but not on coals. On your stained enamel, my Daddy said to tell you to boil some water with tomato juice in it. Let it boil a while. Allow it to sit overnight. When you pour it out, your staining should disappear. The acid in the tomato sauce will take care of it. He's 76 and knows a whole lot so I'm sure it'd work!

Hi Ms. Lori, Mr. Brown, it's a Lea Renee again, I sure hope you all are healthy, well, and enjoying life! Ms. Lori, on the enamel, if it's bein super stubborn, I'd make a paste with baking soda, a tablespoon or so of toothpaste, a few drops of that Dawn you got on the sink there, and maybe an 1/8 cup of Coke if you have any on hand. That oughta get her! If it's STILL bein persistent, get you one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers (Doesn't have to be that brand at all and you should be able to find em at the Family Dollar or Dollar General, I'm not sure which y'all have out in your neck of the woods, but they should have an off brand for real cheap, it won't scratch up your enamel AT ALL!!) Coke'll take the rust off chrome and it'll shine up your barbeque grills like new if you use aluminum foil to do the scrubbin, the lemon juice will help to brighten up the inside of that enamel as well. Works in your white laundry too! Hope that helps and I hope you, Mr. Brown and your loved ones have a merry and blessed Christmas and a great year after that! PS, your whole home is just perfect and beautiful, but I am in LOVE with your kitchen and your SINKS!! (Which sounds really weird even inside my own head, but it's the God's honest truth! Lol, y'all have a good one!)

Hi Ms. Lori, this was a great video on the maintenance of cast iron pots. Unfortunately I don’t have the patience to maintain those pots living in the city. I had one and it rust on me unfortunately. In reference to cleaning your ceramic pot I saw a commenter state a little bleach and water will help and that’s true but if it doesn’t I ran across this cleaner degreaser that’s magnificent on anything and it’s safe on all things. Non-toxic and safe for food prep surfaces. It’s called “Krud Kutter” I ordered it online because it hard to find in stores. Trust me it works on all tough stains of any kind. Also I would like to mention the next time if you use the baking soda use some peroxide with it and let it sit for a while. I love your pots!

Enjoyed your cast iron video. Like you I have a lot of cast iron and cook in it all the time. I have married grand daughters but I don't think they will want all of mine ,because all they cook in cast iron is cornbread. But I cook every thing in mine.

I've always used a small layer of bleach sprinkled with a cleanser like ajax or comet, let it set and scrub every now and then. works very good for me.

Thank you both for showing us how to care and clean our cast iron. Those are great Dutch ovens. I have 3 skillets, 1 that belonged to my mom. My son-in-law has a small Dutch oven that I can use if I want. No idea about the enamel pots. Have a blessed evening

I have several cast. Iron skillets and pots. Use them daily. When one starts getting "crusty" especially the bottom or around the top, when we burn a pile of brush..i'll just throw it in the coals and leave until it cools. It will be like new. Then just cover inside and out with lard or crisco...lightly..put in low oven...250-300 for3 hours or so. I have one that is probably 75 or more years old. just sharing my old way learned from my mother and grandmother. Enjoy your channel so much.
