My Mama has pecan trees (84 yrs old). Last year her trees did not bear. She normally takes them by bushels to a nearby town where a gentleman has a machine that cracks them. Then she brings them home and her siblings (and spouses) come and they sit around her kitchen table and shell them. She usually makes a big pot of soup to serve them and they make a day of it. She freezes them by the gallons. I love to toast them in butter in a skillet and salt them. I make homemade butter pecan ice cream with them...oh my!! So good!

Ms Lori, I wanted to thank you so much for all you do! I so enjoyed this video as with all the others. I had no idea Pecans could even be canned. The fact that you celebrate our Lord. I almost want to cry knowing that there are people in the world that are so good like you and Mr Brown. I feel as if I have known you forever. I always come away from your videos learning something new. There are so many things you say that fall into the way I grew up, my mum was a part-time cook at our little school for years. Then she took it over and everyone liked her so much! That of course was in the 60’s & 70’s. That’s when real food was cooked at the schools. When I was in High School, I had a class working in the kitchen and I remember making the monster Cinnamon Rolls every Friday. I enjoyed it so much. It’s such a shame that kids don’t get to have those experiences anymore. I love to bake and can. I have so much leftovers when I do make or bake something that all 3 freezers are just about filled. I only have myself to cook for but am used to cooking for a lot of people, it’s been so hard trying to pare down for just me and my little Schnauzer, Donut! Thank you and Mr Brown for being so entertaining, he is a hoot! God Bless you and yours, Love in Christ, Jilli Pritchard

Miss Lori, I just noticed the little white chicken head that’s hanging on the wall by the sink, and wonder where you got it. My mother has been gone for 5 years and she was 96 years old when she went to heaven. She made several of those in her church ceramics class and I have one hanging in my kitchen, too. I believe it’s a towel holder and so I hang my dish towel on it. I love it and it’s a sweet memory of my mom, who I miss every day. I’ve never seen one anywhere else, but I’m from California. You probably got yours from a store there in Arkansas, or maybe someone made it back there. Just wondering. Thanks. (Yes, missing Mr. Brown, but I have a son whose passion is fishing, so I understand.)

And if I can would I just use the same procedure? Thanks for your wonderful videos. I live in Arkansas also. And I have been to Hardy many times but never stopped for anything there. But I’m gonna make it a destination for the summer. My husband and I made it a priority at least to go somewhere in Arkansas once a month that we’ve not been before. And we love finding old restaurants that have been around a long time that makes good food while we’re out. I crack pecans with vice grip players. They have a adjusting screw on the end of them so they can be set to just crack the shells. I give the nut a crack then I rotate the nut a quarter turn and crack it again. When i get the tool adjusted just right most of the nuts come out whole with very few crushed. I told a big bowl of nuts in my lap and I toss the meats in another bowl in front of me as I let the shells fall back in the bowl in my lap. I can shell a big bowl of nuts in no time at all. Thanks for the video.

I’m doing the same thing Ms Lori. I now make two loves of bread twice a month. lol..you should of seen my first loaves of bread! Hahaha….but today….it’s beautiful. I don’t use a machine. I don’t want to depend on electricity, so it’s all hand made. But I just love it! Now…I’m going to make this bread by hand and see how it works out. Banana Bread is my favorite bread…..thank you Ms Lori…

My Mom taught herself to make bread. First ones were doorstops. But she got it and the potato bread was the BEST.

My husband and I LOVE fresh baked bread. . lol. . I have to make 2 loaves at a time, because we end up eating the first one. . lol. . (smaller loaves) I don't buy store bought bread anymore, since I started baking my own. . there is ONE bread though, that I haven't been able to master, and yes, I DO buy that one on occasion. . And that is Italian bread from our local store. . it is the BEST dang bread ever! That seems to be my weakness! lol. . thank goodness we don't get it often! it's more of a treat here. . I will use that to make pizza on, which tastes so good! Thank you for sharing all the wonderful things you can! I have learned so much from you since I've started watching you. . :) xox

I'm so glad you made this video! Like you, freezer space is at a premium right now, and then we have to be concerned with power outages. I wonder if walnuts are canned the same way successfully? I bought a bread machine and it's still in the box. I figured my little Granny might haunt me if I dared using it. ;) She made the best homemade bread and rolls! But, I got one for such a time as this- super busy, trying to be as self sufficient as possible and maybe enjoy a little convenience every now and then. So, I really appreciate this video, Ms. Lori. I hope Mr. Brown caught lots of fish and enjoyed his well deserved day on the river. Its definitely good for the soul. God bless you both, and thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.

I’ve been using them for a couple of months now. I absolutely love them! I’ve had one failure during hose month’s. I inspected y jar, it was good. I inspected my lid, it was good. But what I found was my headspace was to high, and fat and grease in that particular jar was to high, and siphoned. All 14 other jars were fine and holding seals. To this day, no problems. I love them….

The bread looks delicious! I take the small bits of pecans and add them to butter or cream cheese with a little honey for homemade bread. I've never tried to can them though so I'm looking forward to trying that. Thanks! Many Blessings!

Love this! I had no idea pecans could be canned. That banana bread looks so good. I’m thinking it would be great with cinnamon cream cheese on top too…or…make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich out of it. My grandmothers used to have fig trees and always canned up a bunch of fig preserves. Those would taste delicious on the banana bread too.

So good to see you canning pecans. I have always stored mine in the freezer, but space is always an issue. I am anxious to see what you think of the For Jars. I ordered some after watching Sutton Daze because she liked them so much, so I am glad to see you were satisfied with them, so far. The pecans look beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

This is definitely a wonderful! So glad your Mister was able to get away for a hard day's work 🥰 anything that benefits and offers our hubby's a bit of manly fun. I had no idea I could pressure can my pecans. Mama gave me a nice bread baker in 2009-2010 for Christmas. Your using wheat flour for quick bread in it has inspired me to use it more. I was concerned about using my whole wheat so I have used my oven. Thanks so much for inviting us into your kitchen today. 😊
