That's when they opened a SC plant. Quality was being pushed aside in the need for speed and profits. Google search the SC plant. Al Jazeera did a great undercover story complete with drug abuse. This is possibly the worst reporting I’ve seen on this topic so far. For one, the incident with the United 777 in Sydney was almost certainly not Boeing’s fault. It was a 7 year old aircraft. On top of that, nearly the exact same thing occurred to several Airbus A320s over the past week and there was little to no reporting on those incidents, let alone blame on Airbus. Am I defending Boeing? No. They seriously need to get their act together. But is it fair to blame every single incident on them? No, especially when it’s the day of and an investigation hasn’t even started yet. And, Boeing 787 MAX? Is that a joke? Do better. That’s absolutely embarrassing.
@oubrioko
@oubrioko 2 месяца назад
Exactly right. For a generation now, much of 4th Estate prefers lazy easy narratives that will get ratings, subscriptions, or clicks, etc. They are deliberately exploiting any incident that barely has a cursory affiliation with a Boeing aircraft as an excuse to talk about the aircraft manufacturer and their legitimate failures with the 737 MAX MCAS disasters awhile back, the apparent suicide of a former Boeing QA whistle blower, a decompression incident where an aircraft was delivered without bolts installed in a door plug, and recent airline fallout from production delivery delays (particularly 737 MAX 10). None of these are an excuse for irresponsible reporting. One news outlet used the United flight which experienced a hydraulic failure and safely returned to SFO, as an excuse to focus most of the report on *Boeing,* ...despite the fact that the incident aircraft was an Airbus A320. That report didn't even mention the word, _'Airbus,'_ however the word _'Boeing'_ was explicitly stated four times. This neglect is journalistic malpractice.

If my brand new car leaks fliud, that blame falls primarily with the OEM. But if my 15 year old car leaks, that's on me for not maintaining it. It's important to distinguish what's United's fault through deferred or insufficient maintenance, as opposed to Boeing's fault through poor engineering. However when Boeing changed their philosophy during more toward profit acquisition they started to fail and this is the Fallout and consequences because of that shift. Here’s the thing, the media is placing the blame on Boeing for any mishap in aviation in an effort to worry passengers and get ratings. Yes, Boeing was at fault for the 2 737MAX 9 crashes, but the plug door incident is still under investigation. The incident with the wheel becoming detached from the 777 was a United maintenance issue as is this, and the 737 that ran off the runway was pilot error for them not setting the correct auto brake when landing in bad weather. More carries operate 737, 777 and 787 than any other aircraft in the world, they are the workhorses in aviation and have been for decades, so stop putting Boeings name on every problem that happens because it’s bs.

I mean, in the past 6 days, United’s maintenance procedures seemed to be the real culprit here and not the aircraft. The fact that these were all isolated to United in such short order suggests that there is some commonality in either who worked on the aircraft or where they were worked on. Other airlines like American, who have just as many of the same aircraft, simply haven’t had the same problems in such a short period of time. This does not dissuade from the fact that Boeing has gone down the tubes. But the media is what the media does so I wouldn’t expect anyone to be operating above a room temperature IQ

What does it tell about the company when they're taking safety issues seriously ONLY after people have died and injured or after they've been cought? It's pretty obvious Boeing problems have been going on for years and years so it's probably not just the 737 Max that's suffering from subpar quality control.

The incident on the 777 cannot be a Boeing related issue, this is an issue with maintenance at United. The 777 series is one of the safest aircrafts in the air and has a tremendous safety record. You can't keep blaming Boeing for everything that goes wrong with an aircraft, in fairness you shold cover Airbus issues as well. This was poorly researched and full of assumptions.

Sensationalism... The leaking hydraulic fluid from the 777 is not related in any way to the Max quality control issues, just as an oil leak in an old car is not indicative of a major design fault by the manufacturer. The media tends to make the most tenuous of links just to fear-monger and sell headlines. Yes, Boeing has become a shell of its former self which has led to the most awful of consequences but its current woes are not related to this issue at all.

Boeing definitely has a mountain of troubles right now but I think we're letting United get a pass. United has had a lot of "maintenance" issues with aircraft that have been flying without issue with other carriers. I'd like to see United's maintenance habits audited too.

One thing that I learned while I worked at Southwest years ago is that "airline passengers are dumb especially the business travelers". Regardless of what's going on with the Boeing planes, passengers while flying on them anyway with the thought that nothing will happen to them and cry foul if it does. Stop flying on Boeing planes will hurt the airlines bottom line which will force them to hurt Boeing bottom line which will force Boeing to take real action immediately.
