check the driver side - I believe the cover gets mounted 'between' the strut and the window wash reservoir assembly, NOT on top of the window wash assembly

Update ! - when first saw these posts about water collecting in tops of strut mounts. I immediatedly checked mine. Passenger side strut had approximately 1/8th cup of water total. Drivers side had none. I dried it out, and reinstalled OEM shielding without purchasing aftermarket covers. I would periodically check about every 2-3 months. I am happy to say that 1 year later I have had no water collect in strut mounts. I wash my 2020 C8 often, using power washer for initial rinse, then foam sprayer, & final rinse with powerwasher. I have even been caught in some very nasty thunderstorms while driving on all types of roads & highways. I believe this water is from the GM Splash Test and was not properly removed afterwards. Still, there has been no additional water collecting. I'm not knocking those that purchased covers, I think they dress up the struts better but I don't think they're a necessity.

Funny how so many “experts” cautioned against buying first year Vettes; but bottom line these very minor issues have been the norm. Good solution to this issue. And to you guys using duct tape or drilling out some elegantly cast fittings; sound like a classic case of knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Had my 21 for about 4 months now and i wash the car weekly plus living in South Florida it rains almost every other day. Ready to install the covers but the odd thing is there was not a drop of water in either side. A lot of dust and a few small leaves but no water at all. Since they are here and i have already removed the plastic frunk cover i figured they might be of use sometime in the future. Easy install. took about 15 minutes.

Hey. Thanks for watching. To the best of my knowledge, it hasn't been corrected for 2021. Some people have said they didn't see water when they opened it up but others have. The design is still the same. Do a routine hand wash and then open up that panel and see if you have water in the tower bracket. Probably the best way to tell.

Is it feasible for the owner of the car to drill weep holes in the bottom?
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 3 года назад
Unfortunately not. It is a solid aluminum bracket so it would compromise the structural integrity and the thickness is really big. You would need a long bit and drill almost 7 holes on each side and you could risk drilling a whole right into the adaptive shock. There would be a couple other issues with that as well. These covers for $55 is the best way to go for this I think after seeing the design setup. Thanks for watching!

When does the water comes? When you wash the car? Or in a rainy day?
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 3 года назад
I think it comes from both. The wiper cowl seems to feed water into the plastic panel I took off and that seems to run it right into the towers when it splashes. Heavy rain or washing will get water in the holes. And once its there its just there. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

@tedschaefer9237
@tedschaefer9237 3 года назад
This is stupid; You can take a piece of plastic and some duct tape to cover them up until GM either does a service bulletin or recall to fix this. All they have to do is drill some holes like they have in the rear towers.
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 3 года назад
That is definitely one way to solve it, but duct tape isn't waterproof and I would imagine with the amount of water that is making its way here, the duct tape would wash out pretty fast. I didn't want to wait on GM to issue a service bulletin cause they might never do it haha. Thanks for watching!

@@JumpSquadAuto Lol! Not really, great video. Thanks for taking the time to do this, and your other C8 videos. Sorry, I'm being pedantic. People (not just you) keep calling it a "strut tower", when the C8 has shocks. Generally, struts are used on vehicles in place of an upper control arm and connect to the knuckle, while vehicles with an upper and lower control arm will use shock absorbers. C8 has both upper and lower control arms on the front (and rear) suspension. So, shocks, not struts on our C8s.
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 3 года назад
Haha thanks for the support and kind words. Appreciate it and thank you for explaining that. RU-vid is a 2-way street for me and I learn from the people that watch more then I give which is awesome. I think the reason why everyone calls it the strut tower is: c8strutcovers.com/ This is the company that makes the covers. Whoops lol.
@Dr.Bigglesworth
@Dr.Bigglesworth 3 года назад
@@JumpSquadAuto Yeah, I know the company that makes the SHOCK tower covers calls them strut towers. They did do a nice job on the covers though. One thing I did on the driver's side cover is drilled a hole in the new cover to push the removed wire retainer into. I used a peel and stick 1mm thick foam "circle" I made (used circle punches for the hole and the outer circle) to go around the hole to keep any water out. If you drill the hole, make sure you place it so when you push in the retainer, it has open space to go into.

@@Dr.Bigglesworth That's a great idea. I didn't like leaving the harness just there. I will do that. I was thinking of using a the 3M tape used for the 5VM package to double side it but I like your idea better.

Nah... water wouldn't hurt aluminum in any manner that matters. Your suspension bits are going to get very wet very often and if anything is going to corrode it's down there. And even then, it is not a concern for decades. Any amount of water getting onto the strut mounts during a downpour or car wash is going to EVAPORATE in a day or two max, drain holes or no drain holes. This is not going to corrrode aluminum any more than the humidity and oxygen in the air is going to. And, that aluminum surface is ALREADY oxidized by the time the car leaves the factory. That is why you see that whitish surface on the metal. But unlike steel aluminum oxide then prevents further corrosion of the metal.
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 3 года назад
So the car hadn't seen water for a week prior to this video and the water was filled to the brim. nothing evaporated. Aluminum can lose tinsel strength if submerged in water when it is not coated to withstand it. The bolts are not aluminum but metal and as the video shows, had significant surface rust. They would end up stripping if you tried to take that tower assembly apart in say 10 years. GM has already alluded to this as a flaw they will fix in 2022. They have a tower cap for the rear towers....if it wasn't a problem, they probably wouldn't have put them on the rears. Just my 2 cents. The math adds up for me here. Thanks for watching!
