In April 2022, the City of Denison, Texas unveiled it's most recent downtown mural project to the largest hometown crowd ever assembled for such an event. This is the first of two videos in a series I call the "Hero Next Door", about quiet, unassuming American heroes who never sought the limelight or recognition for their remarkable deeds and contributions. North Texas has made a sizable contribution in it's production of aviators; from it's lady ferry pilots, the W.A.S.P.'s to the WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq-Afghanistan pilots and ground crews from all services. Military Historian Kurt Cichowski retells the story of Major Jewel Butler and his role as a Tuskegee Airman in the 99th Fighter Squadron and his subsequent deployment and service in the Korean War.
