Sean, you might want to do an episode covering the "homegrown" rules, what they actually mean and the difference between homegrown, association trained, and club trained. Club trained in particular is a difficult one. It's required for Uefa competition and if Skipp and Whiteman end up going, that leaves us with only Austin, meaning we need THREE club trained brought back. Parrott, Edwards, and KWP spring to mind. Anyone else? Not many fans understand it I find. We're in a hole with this and I think you're right picking up on patterns and I think this is where Ange's comments earlier in the year about the academy not being good enough comes from.

Where Jobe Bellingham is concerned, Sean, the big question will be whether he sees his career path similar to his brother, namely choosing a move that means he keeps playing every week as a young man. Jude Bellingham is one of the few people to have turned down Sir Alex Ferguson for a smaller club, when he went to Dortmund from Birmingham. He played every week for 3 years and graduated to Real Madrid. It's not a given that brothers do the same things, but at that age, it may be that two brothers receive similar advice from near to home. So it might be a question as to whether both Bergvall AND Bellingham would be regular starters at Tottenham, whether paying double for Bellingham than Bergvall would make sense if Bergvall were ahead in the queue (I don't know whether he would be or not). There's logic to Palace looking around if they think that Wharton might be sold. Brentford are also a smaller outfit where Bellingham might be more likely to start every week. I don't know enough about the player myself to know what his realistic prospects would be at Tottenham aged 18, but to me, the way his career is panning out, his season at Sunderland aged 18 is equivalent to his brothers' initial season at Birmingham aged 16, so if he's looking now for a move equivalent to his brother's move to Dortmund, at whatever level he is likely to find football every week for a progressive coach, the question would have to be whether Spurs would be that club or not. He has three years left on his contract, so Sunderland don't need to sell too...

I’m assuming that you have already and I just missed it, Sean, but I’d appreciate a discussion of your feelings about Toney and the “character” risks given his hardcore gambling history. He just seems to me a personal “locker room” risk. Thoughts?

Jobe is not ready for PL. If we are looking for players ready for PL, go for Archie Gray.

Some general maths. Good players cost on average, circa, £40m each (Madders, VDV, etc.), transfer fees alone. Let’s ignore wages as there’ll be ( 🤞🤞 ) like for like numbers going out. So, if we want, say, 5 decent players, that’s £200m. We have FFP headroom, according to recent reports of, circa, £150m. That means we have to sell, or get profit, of another £50m to comply. So, that’s why KWP, Marcus Edwards, Werner, etc. make sense. We should’ve done Lloyd Kelly too. It’s not easy, or a lack of ambition, operating in the way we do. It’s a financial reality and restriction. This is, also, why I don’t believe all the foreign links we have. One, maybe 2, max foreigners. IMO, I don’t believe Gallagher and Eze would be possible in the same window. Eze would 1.5+ times my £40M. We’re going to have to compromise somewhere if we want Eze. I think Lange and his team have a hell of a job on to balance the books. As always, #COYS

I cannot see any evidence that Levy and the Board have any intention of making the substantial investment in the playing squad with not just squad players but players who will truly make a difference. I hope I am wrong but a leopard does not change its spots. Very poor buying decisions over past years are now haunting us.

I did tend to watch Sunderland games when they were on TV just to see how good he was. He was moved about between being a number 10 and at times playing as the furthest man forward (Jude is on record as saying he’s a striker or at least will become one). When I saw him he was good but not spectacular, certainly didn’t tear up the championship like Taraabt and Ruben Neves have done in the past. If that deal was to happen, he’d want to be playing a good amount of football somewhere so whether that’s staying on loan at Sunderland for another year or a Prem loan to someone like a Fulham or Bournemouth would be good for him. Garner? Absolutely no thanks. Ok player in a shocking anti-football team. Don’t want to be giving any money to that Everton scum either thanks. Hope they end up financially ruined.
