This song touches my heart because its a song about the overthrow of our queen which was totally illegal and wrong. He Hawaii au mau a mau! And that will never change. We must stand up and preserve our culture and olelo. Mahalo na kanaka.

I'm a mixed race too, IRISH,JEW, BLACK,& SAMOAN. One thing European Americans and African Americans need to know, all AMERICA, NORTH, SOUTH, & CENTER. Is our MOTHER LAND.
We the people of Hawaii should always be lucky that we have a unique haritege of being hawaiian.and always remember what queen liliokulani sacraficed for we the poeple of hawaii. so mahalo to all of us for not fogetting who we are and where we come from. gotta ga.
Personally, I am in total support for the Hawai'ian indigenous in reclaiming their beloved land and monarchy. I accept it even if it means that I must leave for any reason. I am, as it is said, to take only memories and leave only footprints. Understanding and respecting the various cultures is imperative in living in an international world. Without respect, the only thing that comes about is hatred, confusion, and war. Peace to all.
The most poignant of Hawaiian songs when one knows what it references and the story. Strong. I saw a whole performance of it headed up by Ike Lee in the 70's. It was amazing. The song still is.
Das ist so wunderschön! Danke fürs shearing dieser einzigartigen Musik. I am a old Lady from Germany and I like so much the Makahana Sons and IZ! Thank you verry much!

Agreed, and John was so much more. His aloha shown through everything. We were so lucky to have him. And I'm selfish enough to wish he was still with us.
Famous are the children of Hawai`i Ever loyal to the land When the evil-hearted messenger comes With his greedy document of extortion Hawai`i, land of Keawe answers Pi`ilani's bays help Mano's Kaua`i lends support And so do the sands of Kakuhihewa No one will fix a signature To the paper of the enemy With its sin of annexation And sale of native civil rights We do not value The government's sums of money We are satisfied with the stones Astonishing food of the land We back Lili`ulani Who has won the rights of the land She will be crowned again Tell the story Of the people who love their land
This was the first song I heard when I landed on the beautiful Oahu just over a couple of weeks ago. Only now that I returned home I found the true meaning of it and it breaks my heart. I hope the people of Hawaii get their lands back. My country was under foreign rule for over a 1000 years before it gained independence. Mahalo for the beautiful memories 🌺🌺🌺
As a hanaii,I believe that the true blood Hawaiians should have their rights as owners of these islands.Even if it means that I need to leave..I am willing to stand and fight to keep Hawaii, Hawaii..
That is true aloha! However, the constitution of the kingdom of Hawai'i at the time of the overthrow was not about bloodlines. It was about loyalty to the kingdom.
i totally agree with you on that subject it is so sad though how the greedy foreiner's take their lands and other's which belong's to the native hawaiian's all hawaii should all stand together..mahalo..
I remember George Naope saying, "The missionaries taught us to bow our heads and close our eyes and pray. When we opened our eyes, AUWE! All the land was gone."
Yes, but protecting freedom of indigenous people should not include arresting the Queen, banning the language, and applying Jim Crow laws in the name of 'democracy.'
that's not a nice thing to say thanks very much i feel for all hawaiian's for goodness sake respect their culture..i hope all hawaiian's should all stand together...
With all due respect to the Queen of Hawai'i and my kanaka cousins, I hv often wondered why the Queen, knowing how duplicitous the white man was/is, never called for an uprising against the usurper of her legal authority. I can only surmise that she trusted too much and, as a Christian, was against the shedding the blood of her people. Seeing Hawai'I today, I wonder if she would now act differently. Me te arohanui no Aotearoa. Kia kaha te po'e!
One of the monarchs before Lili’uokalani (Kalākaua) was held at gunpoint and forced to sign a paper that gave most of his power and anyone following him to those same duplicitous white men. The Queen did, in fact, fight back in many ways. However, she was imprisoned illegally after just 2 years of reigning over the islands.
I respect the wishes of the Native Hawaiian people, but there are those, including my people who have left their blood in the waters of Pearl Harbor, fighting to protect your people from those who wished to take both yours and my freedom away.....May God bless all of our people....
