You have changed the way I make quilts,😊 I have been making quilts for over 12 years. And in the last 3 months I have made 15 quilts using the “3 yard quilts “ you are amazing 🌻. Thank you for sharing, love your videos 🌻
I had wondered about using fat quarters in 3-yard quilt pattern. Glad you had this video- by trial and error!! You are so relatable!! You’d make a great leading lady for a Quilting Reality fun show!!!🤣 As always, enjoyed watching your video!!
It is such a cute quilt and I like the fireworks border. April, yes make mistakes in quilting then do it easier and better the next time. The Quilting Marine says, It's only fabric. It's only thread." I think the best sewing mistakes are those that only require a seam ripper.
Hi Mary in Wisconsin Thank you for watching my video and your kind words .. I love anything patriotic and bright ... I love fat quarters and they are so versatile .. you can do so much with them! Blessings from KENTUCKY to you :) April
Your quilts beautiful. Thank you for showing us how to use fat quarters make it. I've purchased the 3 yard quilt book that Fran Morgan put out for 3 yard quilts.
I’ll have to get this book. I have enough red, white and blue and Union Jacks 🇬🇧 Actually thinking about it, I may try this scrappy rather than flat colours plus the Union Jacks 🇬🇧 😊
I am quite enjoying your channel. I started learning to quilt with Covid isolation. I have asked friends to choose three fabrics from my stash and a pattern from the Fabric Cafe line. Just finished my fifth one from their books (made two rag quilts and two flannel quilt as you go quilts and an oversized queen that is currently out to the long armer in between). I can see progress in my workmanship and find the 3 yard quilts a really good learning tool. Thanks for the hints.
Wow❗ Your thumbnail caught my eye. I just adore patriotic quilts. And your caption claiming to use fat quarters for a 3 yd quilt stopped me in my tracks. I have a huge amount of fat quarters and this seems like an easy breezy pattern to do in between the more complicated ones. Thanks. 🇺🇸
Like the way your quilt turned out April! I just ordered this book during their sale and I’m so glad you chose this pattern. It’s one of my favorites and I liked seeing it in a patriotic quilt. Your channel is fun.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hadn't even considered this pattern until Kathleen pointed it out. Once I saw it - I knew I had to make it! Have fun making yours. :-) April
I really like that quilt! Love the white boarder 💡 idea then adding colored boarders! Fireworks boarder makes a nice frame. Super enjoy your ending! You always make me smile!
I know this was a year ago, but I’m binge watching today as I’m not feeling well. I can feel a little creative even from bed, 😂. I really like this pattern as it shows off your fabrics so well. I tend to like patterns that do this because that’s why I buy the fabric to begin with, because I love it. I’m working on a wall hanging right now using tiny half-square triangles for the first time. I’m not enjoying the process as much as those tiny pieces are hard to work with. I like the triangle part though which will take me a long way. I love your fabric choices and you did a great job! Thanks for sharing your process and for leaving in your booboos so that newbies like me know that everyone makes mistakes. That’s why they invented seam rippers 😀.
I'm always worried about trying to use fat quarters for a 3 yard quilt. Yours is beautiful!! (And I bought Fabric Cafe's fat quarter quilt book just so I don't mess up 😂)
Very nice. If you were on I-65 and driver over the bridge my husband worked on that bridge. But the I-265 bridge over the Ohio River is the one we call Todd’s bridge because he worked on that one from start finish. I hope you enjoyed the caves. April
@@aprilscraftroom hello April, We were on I 65. I think I got my husband interested in going to the Psycho Granny's Quilt Shop you featured a few days/weeks ago.
@@aprilscraftroom Yes, I visit the psycho granny's quilt shop today. Very interesting. I told them that I found out about them through your RU-vid channel. They said a few people are visiting because of the feature you did on your channel.
Got it 😇😍 just kidding ya. Love what you do and show all us wannabe quilters how ya get it done. Can't wait for the next one I don't read directions very good I'm a show me person so you help me a lot 😇😍
How you kept the math and what went where using fat quarters straight in your head, I don't know... !!!!! The quilt top looks great. Congratulations 🎉. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Where did you buy your lg cutting mat, and what is the measurements? You have the neatest tools. I live in a very rural community on northwest Oklahoma.far away from shopping fabric stores. Beautiful projects all the time!,,🌹
I liked it but from title I was hoping you would do a fat quarter quilt like Donna's daughter does in her book. Could you? I find her dark, medium, light with multiples of some pieces confusing. I love your use of non-tradictional fabrics in these quilts.
Hi I'm a beginner at sewing. You make it look so easy to make quilt tops. But do you have a step by step video on how to actually put ia quilt all together and how to finish it with and without binding? Thank for sharing your talents & inspiring me 😁
You are in luck! I just did a video showing an easy quilt top using 10" squares. Soon to come is how I baste the quilt, then I will share the video showing how I free motion quilt it and then I will show how I bind the quilt. So stay tuned. Thank you for watching. April
It took me all week. I only had bits of time here and there to shoot it. My family thought I should participate in their activities. LOL. I actually washed the first shirt so I could wear it again. Thank you for watching. 😀 Happy 4th of July. April
April great video. I want to try and make this quilt. I noticed that you are sewing with a Janome. Could you please tell me what model is it and about how much it cost you. So I shop around for an newer used or refurbished Janome.
Thank you. I use a Janome Continental M7. I got mine for about $4500. The cost depends on your Janome dealer so shop around. The machine I have has a large throat space and the larger the throat space, the more expensive the machine. So if you are only going to be piecing, I wouldn't pay extra for a large throat space, but if you plan on quilting the more throat space, the better. I hope that helps. April
Great video, April! So if your fat quarter bundle had 12 (or more) different fat quarters….(at least) 4 of each color, because that’s usually how fat quarter bundles come, you could still make this quilt. Separate your fat quarters by colors and treat them as Fabrics 1, 2 and 3 like you did….reds, whites and blues. Have to think about this a bit but it should work the same way. Probably is easier if you can get a yard of each rather than fat quarters but it does work. Good work! Love the quilt. Did you make the placemats with your extra fabric from your cutting mistake?
It is funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing. It would look really cool with the different colors but I would have to label them because I get mixed up with only 3 colors! LOL. I am going to have to try that. Thank you for the idea. 😀 April
@@aprilscraftroom you know, when I first thought about it, it didn’t really occur to me that you would have to keep each of the three colors always in the same order. Not sure you could actually because you only have a fat quarter of each one, and not a full yard. You would just be matching the colors, not the actual fabric. Be random with where you place the reds and the same thing with the blues and the whites. Just place them all in a pile…..a red pile, a blue pile and a white pile and pull them by their fabric # just like you did when all of the pieces were of the same fabric. I would not worry about being careful to match them up for each of the rows. Your strip sets would all be different. I think that would be super cool. I may have to buy that pattern and give it a try with my stash of reds, whites and blues and see how that goes. I love that you share your boo-boos with us. I know when it’s happening, it’s not fun. I hate to rip! But, we all do and I love that you don’t edit that part out so it looks like you are perfect. Stuff happens, so why not be honest about it. In every quilt I make, there is always some kind of stupid goof, so why not just share that along with your triumphs! Keep it real! Thanks for sharing!
@@kathyclayton4318 That is a great idea - makes it easier too so I don't have to keep up with what pile is what fabric. LOL. I am glad you like the boo boos. I like to share them so especially beginner quilters don't think quilting has to be perfect. Goodness knows mine isn't. ;-). This idea is going on my list! I will share how it turns out. And if you make one - I would love to see how yours turns out. April
meant to ask, where did you get that measured pad for your sewing machine. really strugglt getting the deam straight. I am in Australia,so hope we get it here. love you. your a nut!
Sometimes you feel like a nut. LOL. I always feel like a nut. 😀. That green mat is a Sew Steady Grid Glider. Google it and you should find it online. I found that if I slow the machine down I get a more accurate seam. I also position the needle to where the edge of my foot is the 1/4” seam guide. You can also tape the 1/4” mark with several layers of washy tape or painters tape making it hard for your fabric to go askew. Thank you for watching. April
@@lindapucillo3493 It is the Sew Steady Grid Glider and you can find it in the description of the video or on Amazon, or Sew Steady. Just Google it. :-) April
Not sure I follow the question. But I cut my fabric with the selvage on because it is easier to cut the selvage off a skinnier cut of fabric than the entire piece of fabric. And the selvage shrinks differently than the rest of the fabric which is why it is cut off. Hope this helps. April
Hi Sharon, I am so sorry I cannot give those measurements as they are in the book (click this link for the book) Quick as a wink book by Donna Robertson... I don't have the right to give out the measurements. amzn.to/3gPvNSQ Hope this helps ... April
could you make modern charm quilt i want to make it but not sure how to do the churn dash block since it i not a 12 inch blocki have the book can yo do it in strpes
Sure. I have e been wanting to do that one. And I have some striped fabric in a set of 3 yard coordinates I can use. Stay tuned. And thank you for watching. April
That is a personal preference thing. I don’t wash before. Some people wash before to remove the chemicals used in the process of making and dying the fabric. Excellent question. I also don’t pre wash because washing erases a lot of mistakes after quilting. LOL April
I personally never prewash any quilt fabrics so the sizing keeps the fabric a bit stiffer. But I also use Terial spray folliwing the directions to make the fabric nice & stiff & very easy to cut.
My design wall is flannel covered foam board insulation that was used to create the faux walls in my unfinished basement. It was actually my husband's idea. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
