I tried my own. Hardest challenge I've ever set myself. Worst aspect was the practicality of filming multple takes, overcomplicating the angles and trying to tell a story with lots of dialouge. Only 10%? You are my best teacher in the filmmaking process and the greatest! I went to study cinema at university, but is was bad environment. The teacher was bad and the students always wanted to competitive during the class between them. They have no passion for the art of filmmaking. Mark, you are best and greatest teacher ever. Hi Mark & Michael! Great look into how Mike accomplished this. I just turned 67 years old. At age 65 I started Jebb Adams YT channel. I restore vintage Singer sewing machines. 2 years later I have a BMPCC6K Pro! When I got BMCC6KPro, I also bought a Nikon Z 30 with 16-50mm lens! I am a poet, writer and serious amateur photog since 2000! I am a film maker. Your AOD course is my next course. I live in downtown Montreal and like everywhere; there are plenty of homeless here. They are mostly Inuk from Nunavik. I want to make a film about my Inuk friends & neighbours! Their story needs to be heard, but more importantly it needs to be seen as well! Thanks so much for your incredible work you guys! Your hard work is so appreciated here! Peace!

I was homeless for 8 years in overtown Miami addicted to fentanyl, crack and meth, iam now clean from all substances coming up on 9 months clean and I stumbled on this because I have such a big story to tell and I have a Nikon d3500 camera and want to make my own film but would be recording everything myself so I'm really grateful I found this video I'm going to do my best and take this information to produce something similar and unique, god bless!

Its not just the drugs who brings people to the edge of society. Thats not the main reason. Many people take drugs, just think about alcohol. The main issue is abuse in childhood or any heavy dramatic thing. Its not the drug. The drug just make it worse on the body but it helps to get away from those pains. With drugs you can see from outside how it looks in the inside of those people even before they took drugs.

props to Michael and thank you for sharing. Most other videos like this "making a movie/short film by yourself" always has some catch, or ends with a Thank You to like 40 other people who assisted them etc. This was grounded and realistic for most entry-level / intermediate filmmakers.

Michael, huge congratulations on the finishing and release of this poignant story and on getting the (big-name) support it deserves. Brilliantly timed video as normal, Mark! Unfortunately I missed this last AoD video link-up, so will have to watch it when the link is shared for that with the AoD participants. I have a few people lined up to share their stories with me over the next year, but I am wondering about the potential to use yourself (not you, but me) as a subject for a doco? Not feature length, just a short, maybe even a series of weekly updates, perhaps a RU-vid channel thing? Last weeks video made me contemplate that in all seriousness, regardless of my reluctance to be in front of a camera! Top handle, wide lens & sturdy hands are one of the only ways to mitigate sensor jitter before you have to move to a gimbal

What was his equipment list for this film... did he shoot this in 1080p or 4k,... what cameras... or camera, he only used tht one lens 16-35...? Which lenz? What was he editing on, 8 months to film, how long to edit...? How much money did he spend...? Did Ray receive anything in return? Is he getting support via exposure, does he want support? Just curious because homelessness isn't exactly desirable, and putting his story out there is both powerful but also leaves him with a lot of vulnerability.

Yeah, I was even thinking about the places he settles in, I'm familiar with this area in the city (and seen him at this exit), and I realized that if someone wanted to hurt him, there isn't many places for him to hide and be protected either

I find bigger cameras have less propensity to overheat, long battery often but most importantly they are more conducive to smooth handheld

I think if you're serious about filmmaking and elevating your documentary work then our course would be the best step. I give out lots of information on here but the course is hours and hours of content we only post on there. I always recommend investing in yourself, it's the best investment
