It's not only the great work you do but the way your explain how the tools work I installed my mini router in my table saw about 4 years ago and it works so much better now you explained about the router bearing being level with the wood I thought that the bearing was just for free hand operation that might seem obviates but I'm new to routers Thx
Wow Colin....Nice to be back again. I was given a trim router today as gift. Been doing the woodwork now for about 5yrs. Made a whole load of things using a big two handled beast with the power press button on the handle (have to keep thumb on button = Cramp in thumb. Thought I was stuck with it, thinking "Oh well this is how it always gonna be" {ignorance} !! Tried new trim router and it was like carving butter with a sharpe pencil !!!!! Going to make this table. {Sorry mate} Again, I'm gonna have tell the missus I thought of it !!! Been married 40yrs ;) Thanks brother.
Hey Colin - I was just thinking of going out & spending $$ on a table for my handheld router but honestly your video brought to mind why I got the router in the first place I love wood working - so why not make my own. Brilliant job & thank you for posting it. Also I thought the lighting of the video and your cadence of delivering what you did & how you did it was perfect & easy for a beginner (sort of) like me to understand!
Colin, You're doing such a great job! One of the best woodworking teachers I have ever had (reminds me of Norm Abram). I'm not so intimidated at trying new things -- as you, often, say: "It's not that difficult!" I, often, watch your videos over and over (by the way, I enjoy your personable voice). Again, thank you!
Ive watched so many videos on how to make a quick router table and they all are so elaborate. This one is quick and easy and simple and you explained it very well. Thank you. I will be making this one.
Thank you! I have my wood cut to make this table. I can't wait to finish it. I love your presentation. Your instructions are easy to understand. I am just a beginner. I will be 63 in April! Oh yes, woodworking is for older women too! lolol
Wow, great! You know, I have seen a fair few videos on different designs for this recently, and most just seem needlessly complicated. Add to that the music and overproduction of other videos really gets in the way for me. This will get the job done with minimal resource and time. Also, your delivery is well paced and engaging. Brilliant! Thanks a lot.
Ideal for a limited size workshop. Could do with making a bigger version for my 1/2 inch router. Nice simplified video for learners such as me! Thank you.
Scale up. I made my big router table pretty much the same way as you did your little table top table. I use two saw horses to support mine. Works great. But, there are times I wish I had a smaller table top router table. I like your's with the legs that fold up for storage. I have enough wood laying around. I may just make one. Looks like a fun project. Barry
simple little build but once again Colin, well presented, no annoying music , just clear instructions, brilliant little video, others should learn from it, thanks for posting , I'll be making one this afternoon I'll
Sweet little setup. Great for smaller roundover bits, just like you used. Nice to have a "dedicated" setup for that type of bit, as I seem to use it on almost every shop fixture build. My larger router can stay in its table for dados, etc. If you could accurately machine away a 1/16" or so from the near side of the "fence", you can also use this as a small sized joiner (with a straight bit of course). Excellent video, and straight to the point.
Great video Colin thank you for sharing. You're a great teacher you explain everything so easily. It gives me the confidence to go away and try making something like that. Thanks again.
This was great! Exactly what i needed for my tiny shop. I found hassling with the bigger router table - even to just change the bits was annoying. Can't wait to attempt to build this!
Thank you for your videos! They are so helpful to someone like me just getting started in woodworking as a hobby. I appreciate the time you take to explain each step and why you did it.
Fantastic video Colin, recently purchased a palm router and struggled to use it on some edges. This will certainly solve the problem. Keep up the good work top man...
What an excellent project! Makes me regret spending money on my expensive router table. Such a simple little project and very well demonstrated - thanks Colin.
Hi Colin, I love your videos and have learned a lot from them. In this instance I have bought an alluminium base plate to fit on my trim router to make this mini table router. It arrived in the post today so I hope to make it soon.
Huge thanks for this video! I have a small trim router and was looking for a way to make something like this. Absolutely perfect for my needs. Will be building this weekend!
Colin I have the same router and it came with a square base. It is called the sub base PN 519234001 is is 2.99 in US. there is also a fence that it comes with called the edge guise and the edge guide bolts.
I love it Collin.. I have a Makita compact and no router table yet so this is definitely on my to-do list right after I get over the flu.. In fact, I've been looking for just such a table build over the past few days and VOILA! Collin to the rescue! Your timing is impeccable.
just bought a trim router and love it already. you said only a quarter horse? mine is one and a quarter makita. thanks for the vid. I will likely make one of these. the router was a gift for the wife and i might have to get her a new one as i like this one so much lol
I have that same router only its 1.5 hp not .25. Mine came with both circle and square bases. Maybe that's something new they're doing since you bought yours. Great little router. Nice table.
I have a similar table that is 2 boards that are joined with biscuits at 90degrees. The vertical piece gets clamped in my bench vise. The second board gets the mounting plate like yours. Works good and sets up quickly and works good. My complaint with mine is dust control, very messy. I usually use the router table that is mounted in a wing of my table saw. I have dust collection that works on this unit. Without the dust collection I spend twice the time cleaning my small shop than it took to do the routing. Nice build though, well thought out, folding legs are a great idea.
I think what you have has a lot of merit Ken, I thought about making a version like yours then decided a mini table might work better for me. No wrong ways, just lots of different variations ... thanks for the note
