Hi friends! I hope you enjoy this video. This stitch is a popular one and can be worked in many ways but my favorite is in the round. In this video I share solutions to 2 common issues that you'll encounter with this stitch that will improve the look dramatically. Let me know if you have used this stitch before! xx
@@minhchu9980 if she doesn’t elaborate, it’s very similar to a temperature blanket . Instead of recording daily temperatures, your do a row or round to reflect the mood you’re feeling for that day (or however you decide to log in for the year. ) I’m doing something similar called a mood blanket. I create a square daily as well as log the day into a journal to help reflect even further. Here’s a link to the video I made in January: Crochet a MOOD Blanket in 3 SIMPLE Steps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYdysSMh1sE.html
This is one of the BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS I’ve ever watched… and I’ve watched hundreds! Clear, concise, some really great tips to avoid common issues AND why they work. JOB WELL DONE! (And a s an educator I don’t give that praise Willy nilly!) PS your two cats look exactly like my brother/sister cats!!!
I watched 4 videos on moss stitch granny squares and had absolutely no luck trying over and over … until I found this video!!!! You are amazing!!!!! Thank you so much!
I made a mental health blanket with this stitch last year, and I fastened off and joined new yarn at the end of every round, even if I was going to the same color next, just to avoid a seam. I was buried in ends after, but I accepted my fate hahaha. but I've been wanting to make a continuous round for a blanket with this stitch, and this is just the video I needed to help me feel confident about it!
Thank you thank you! I have watched 8 videos from others, and even though this stitch is not hard, each vid was slightly different and I got confused. Your video is so calm and plainly explained, that im now ready to start something
Hi roz! I’m the one who asked for this tutorial and i’m so glad i did!!! This was Exactly what i needed and i knew you’d create an amazing video. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!You’re the Best!!!xoxo Linda
Thank u !!!! I needed this tutorial for my tempature blanket, I'm about to start !! I hated how the squares always ended up crooked, and u mastered it !!!!! ❤
I made a moss stitch sweater over the summer, and I wish I'd known these tips back then. My square skewed and I wound up using it diagonally which made the whole construction so much more complicated. A simple t-shirt turned into a 3-month project. This video is a keeper!!❤
Love the moss stitch 😍 it makes a blanket have a wonderful texture 🥰 I also use the hdc for corners to keep things even 🥰 Thanks for the excellent video 🥰
Love this! I’m making sleeping pads for cats (or small dogs) for a charity event, and was looking for new stitches to try to add some variety. This is a winner!
I had fallen in love with the moss stitch for dishcloths a few months ago, rows of it back and forth. This is a wonderful twist on that and it was wonderful to work up--thank you. Then I had the idea to not turn at the end of each round and just went round and round and it also looks great for a dishcloth! Thanks for the inspiration!
I am surprised at how quickly I understand your explanations. Keep up the good work. I just started a double bed cover and I am delighted to see that the result is splendid thanks to you. . Sorry if I make mistakes cause I am French. Friendly yours Jean Claude
Thank you for your video, really didn’t know what i was doing wrong to make my previous moss stitch blankets in the round all wonky. You explained very well. I'm already trying your technic out. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it really helped.
Good morning! When I grow up I want to crochet just like you!!! 😁❤ Thank you so much for another Wesome tutorial. I'm 65 and thought I had learned a lot crocheting but I know nothing. LOVE your channel and your tips and tutorials are life savers. Thank you so much. Have a very blessed day!😊❤
Thank you. That visible seam in the traditional approach to crocheting this square is annoying. Hiding the 1/2 double crochet, slip stitch in the corner, in my opinion, is priceless.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love moss stitch and use it for borders mostly, but now I'm thinking I'd like to make a blanket in the round. Your tips are priceless!
I just found your channel!! Love your work and instruction. Quick, clear and concise. I learned a lot. Look forward to working up some of your projects. Keep the awesome tips coming. Thank you THANK YOU! ❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I’ve lost count of the number of tutorials I’ve watched and the number of times I’ve frogged my work then I come across your tutorial and everything just fell into place, thank you so very much 😊😊
Again WOW, you are one of the best crochet teacher!! I've seen a lot of other videos and yours are super easy to understand, specially the rectangle one I just watched, like I said before never been able to make one. THANK YOU! ALMEDIA.
I've been crocheting off and on for 42 years. I'm amazed at the new stuff I find that I didn't know I needed, and this tutorial is just what I needed! Your explanation and visual guidance helped me learn not only this pattern, but how turning after each round for square projects keep it truly square! I first learned to make a granny square at age 12 and it was the only thing I did for a very long time. When I became disabled in 2008 I taught myself to knit, but always came back to crochet. Since then I've learned way more than I ever knew existed! Thank you for putting together a great video! I can't wait to learn something new! 🧶
very good tips, thanks! The HDBL at the end is a new twist of which I was not aware. Now deciding if I want a wonky blanket (will be fun visually like a fun house attraction) or a square one. Or maybe one of each! I do have enough yarn for that.
Thank you for this video, so easy to follow, I love the turn in the corner to eliminate the line up the side, and the HDC is a much better option. I've made a few of these now, I donate blankets to Project Linus here in Canada.
I think I asked you this before, but can’t find it now - what is the brand name of the stitch marker you are using here? it looks like it stays in place without having to fiddle as much as you do with the locking type.
Here are some to choose from 💕 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DanDhblIvfs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JskHR0b8hEE.htmlsi=3mYXhYnFnjlLSJFC
Awe , thank you so much , Sandy. ❤️Please let me know what you’re specifically wanting to know about it? Is it just the general steps or how to tie the yarn together? I want to make sure I cover what you’re interested in knowing.
Is this possible to do in a rectangle like your other crochet to infinity patterns? I feel that it could easier be done by adding two longer sides in the first round? Right.
I I love your tutorial. Makes it so easy to understand. I would like to alternate two colors every row. Is it possible to carry the yarn or would you have to cut it every time?
This is my go to..I use a hdc to join the corner and turn each round..excited to see your tips! The hdc join/turn method has never resulted in anything other than a seamless, perfect, square! ❤
Awesome ! Thank you for confirming that the hdc makes a difference. It’s so hard to really catch the difference on camera . And love the ch1, sc option. Excellent !!💕
@@PlayHookywithMe I was excited to see you use the same method! The reason I mentioned the ch 1, sc is because some yarn puffs out a bit more with the hdc join. It’s the perfectionist in some of us that make the best discoveries! And the work looked great on camera, I promise.
It’s reversible to avoid the skewing that happens if you work this stitch continuously to the size of a blanket. It’s intentional - not wrong as you’re trying to imply.
I really like ending in the corners and the half double crochet in the corner. I also really like no chain at the beginning of round after turning. Makes a very nice square square. Thank you.
Amazing tutorial! Just wondering something, I want to create a granny square blanket but I'm not sure which hook size to use. What size of crochet hooks do you usually use?
It depends on the yarn you decide to use. Look on the label and it will give you a recommendation for what works well with that yarn. I usually work with yarn that requires a 4-5 mm hook. Both are pretty common for granny squares . Hope that helps 💕
Thanks for that extremely helpful video. I use the moss stitch in the round and have never known what to do to correct the problems you pointed out. I will use your suggestions from now on. Thanks again!
I just want you to know how helpful all of your tutorials have been for me! You are thorough, concise, and have really clear visuals for someone who is new to crochet (oddly I think I've picked it up quickly). To second many other comments, I have watched numerous moss stitch tutorials and could not understand the placement into the ch 1 space or why it kept going wonky. I also love the HDC join! This makes such a LOVELY corner. Thank you for enriching us with your tips and tricks!
🎉I’ve been crocheting for 10+ years. I love the moss stitch and have made at least 4 throws/baby blankets with moss stitch, but didn’t like the wonky look. I just made a lovey blanket size with these instructions and it’s perfect 🩷 thank you!
Hi I'm new to your videos and I am so grateful to have found them. I decided to restart crocheting after many years of not making anything. I am so excited to see all of the neat things that can be created using crochet. My biggest question is there a video that I can watch that would help me restart, that you have filmed? I love your explanations, your voice, the way that you go over the process more than once and you are easy to follow. Anyway, I would love to know an easy pattern to use so I can create my first blanket/afghan. I picked out a kit from a company on FB, and I am thinking that it might be a little to advanced. Also, how to I pick out yarn that is quality yarn and how do I find it? I'm sorry for the questions, I am truly excited to start learning and making. If you are able to answer my questions or if anyone would be willing to do so, I would be extremely grateful. In the meantime, I will be benge watching your videos. I really like the look of the square crochet. I hope it turns into a blanket. Sorry to sound like a need, just super excited. Thank you for your videos, all my love amy.
What a lovely message, thank you , and I’m so glad you are finding use out of the channel. 😀💕I would recommend that you look through my “playlists” to see if there’s a section of videos that would appeal to you. I create a lot of tip videos and plan on making more as time allows. 🤔hmm … I’m having a hard time thinking off the top of my head what would be a good video to suggest since I’m not sure what you’ve watched already so I would start there. It means a lot to me that I get to be a part of your return to crocheting 😀👏🏻👏🏻💕
Oh! This is perfect! My Son bought some glow in the dark cotton yarn and I've used this video to make a pillow to go with my retro flower blanket (your tutorial)! I'm going to try to make a large retro flower to attach to the pillow! I've never designed anything. I'm sure I'll rip out a thousand miles 😂😂.
Oooh, Dinah, that sounds amazing ! Good luck and yes, embrace the ripping out , it will come together. 🤩 Make lots of notes for yourself . It helps me a lot because I find I tend to make the same mistake over and over again thinking ive tried something different and haven’t. Then if I do something that worked, I completely forget how I did it ! 😂😂
I found your Retro Daisy a couple of months ago after trying many other patterns. Your way of teaching and demonstrating fits me perfectly. So when I wanted to make a square using the Linen Stitch I was thrilled to bits to find your video on the matter. You make it so easy and explain why you do each step the way you do. Most of us learn the “how” but we need the “why” to understand and remember. Thank you so much 🇦🇺🧶🍷
Thank you so much for your tutorial- your tips for keeping the work square are very helpful !!! I am making an historic temperature blanket, and these squares work up so quickly and easily. I am doing a square for each month and then will join them together. I can hardly wait to see the finished project :-)
Thank you for this tutorial. It is excellent. Your technique is brilliant, as is your presentation. I'm off to the races with a baby blanket, and it is looking so pretty with a pastel, variegated cotton yarn. ❤
Any tips on joining the squares together? I'm trying a join as you go and I just cannot figure out the corners. I always end up with 1 extra or 1 less stitch than I need.
I haven’t done a video on this yet but I did a quick search for you. Have you watched this one yet? Maybe it will give you some ideas. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eLvpu1l_H_8.htmlsi=gfHVCypyHa4z43mX
I have a little bit of waffling around the edge the bigger my square grows, but the stitch count is the same around the entire square. Is this normal for continuous moss?
Thank you for a very easy tutorial follow, I am making a blanket with squares made of my leftovers from other projects and this is a great square to show off some pretty yarn and also works for simple/plain yarn.
Thank you so much for this clear and precise tutorial,,, for years I have struggled to get my Moss stitch square PERFECTLY square,,,, frustrated doesn’t cover it , ,, I’ve finally managed it thanks to your tutorial !!!!! 👏👏👏☺️☺️☺️
This is fantastic, I so love the moss stitch and was looking for something simple but difficult looking pattern and found this along with an easy way to get around the corners neatly. Thank you!
Wonderful! I love the square corners. I have had so much trouble trying to crochet true squares, and have experimented with various techniques. This looks like just the ticket. Excellent instructions. Like others, I appreciate your reminders and tips to avoid problems before they happen!
I haven’t tried a rectangle before but that’s a great idea for a tutorial . If you need to know right now, I’d recommend you search RU-vid . I’m sure there are variations of it already available 👍🏻💕 But I’ll work on one as well.
Brilliant! Literally best, clear, tutorial! ✅I watched others last night, but this is the best by far! I love the hdc in the corner, and all the tips to stop the problems. I did have my last blanket go wonky on me, but didn’t know there was a ‘fix’?! Who would have thought to turn the work, and hide the seem in the corner! Thanks so much for this tutorial, I want to go buy yarn…like right now and try it. 😂🙌🏻💯
@@PlayHookywithMe quick ?! If I want to switch colors ever 2 rows, should I just carry up the yarn in the corners also? Will that make a super big bulk? I know, I should just try it I guess 😅
The moss stitch has become one of my favorite stitches in general. Thank you for giving a clear tutorial on using it in making squares. I truly appreciate your tips for making a beautiful square and especially for giving the rationale for the technique you used.
Thanks for the tutorial, especially the tip about the hdc! I have tons of yarn I spun that I don’t really know what to do with so this looks perfect for that. :)
Hi! This was very helpful, thank you 🙏 the moss stitch has always eluded me for some reason...I've been trying to get it right for a year. Such a simple stitch too lol I wonder though, could the herringbone stitch work in the round like this?
Yes, you can do the herringbone in this way as well. The turning after each round is essential for that one. I’ll add it to the list for a tutorial. Great idea, thanks! 🤗💕
Comme toujours! Très bien expliqué, très accessible, grand soin de son interlocuteur! Bravo et merci, j'aime beaucoup vos vidéos et j'apprends beaucoup de vous.
Once again this fiber artist shines!!! I love the clear instruction and the way the problems are pointed out prior to actually making the square. Love it so much ♥️
This is so different. It is so impressive that you can figure out how to change it up to make everything work out. Do you see it in your head or do you play around with it? As always, love your work. 🌍☮️🌲
Thank you, Jennie! It’s a lot of things but mainly it’s a case of starting something , discovering the issue and then trying to find the solution by researching several versions of a pattern. Plus, over the years these little tips crossover and work for a lot of different patterns so it has just accumulated. For example, I learned something new with this video from a comment! Another option like the hdc in the corner is to do a ch1 and sc to finish the round. Very cool ! Same concept but might give a closer look to the chains in the corner. 👏🏻👏🏻 So that’s to say, I learn a lot of these gems from you all too. This is my favorite thing to do, I think … find solutions to common crochet problems … but I usually come across them by accident. But when I do, I can’t wait to share with you guys! 😆😆😆💕
I finished the ripple stitch you taught and actually made a “water “ blanket for my son with an enclosed border and I have to say I’m actually super proud of it! Thank you for always being so kind and helpful. I wanted to ask you, I love this stitch, I wanted to know, what do you think if I were to make a bunch of smaller squares, then attached them together, sorta like your mood blanket but with this beautiful moss stitch. Bigger squares, maybe 6inches or so. I just love this stitch but find the ease of just making a square easier for me mentally and physically. ❤❤❤ any advice would be appreciated please and thank you
@@PlayHookywithMe thank you so much for responding so fast and so kindly. I feel I mentally need this project right now. I wish I could send you a picture of the ripple blanket, it’s because of you I was able to make it (I have no social media platforms) Your kindness and patience is so appreciated. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
@@PlayHookywithMeI still have to do this. I forgot I hadn’t sent a pic. My son has been struggled with night terrors. So I’m going on very little sleep, forgive me ❤
Hello Roz I'm catching up before I get to today's video and as always there's something to learn each time . I always use markers whenever a pattern calls for it , because the project turns out project . Lovely to see biscuit and his brother whose name I can't remember having a ball . Enjoy your day .
Hi Angela! Biscuit's brother is Loki. I thought he was going to be a mischief maker but he took on a different form of the word , "low-key". 😆 Have a great week and thank you for watching xx
