This is awesome, really appreciate the plans shared, cut list etc...just started to build the same and can you pls clarify the below, 1. You cut 2x6x8 into 3 pieces (2 were used). What was the size? 2. You made holes to 4x4 (vertical ones) to join, what size of the bit you used? And what size of wood you used to close the hole? 3. What size of the nails/screws you used for pocket holes? 4. There are items missing in your required list. You may want to add them so that we can be ready when starting the project (wood glue, clamps, all materials for staining etc)

Fun World, so happy to hear from you and that you want to build one of these. My intent when making this video was to show how something like this could be done, I can see that more step by step w/ details may help you guys. Do you think I should make another video? I was using what I had laying around, so for the inset holes I used a bit the matched the 1in dowel rod I had on hand. But you can use whatever just make sure it is larger than the screw head and you should be fine. For the 2x6 question, thinking off the top of my head, 1 piece was used per side, minus the front. If there is a mistake in the cut list, let me know and I will update. For Kreg pocket holes, I use Kreg pocket screws...which were 2.5” in this case I believe. Hope that helps. Will check back tomorrow to see if u have any more questions
@rolandmuncie

One concern that I have is with the threaded eye bolts on a build this heavy. The ones you used from Lowes (Hillman brand) have a straight load capacity of 320 lbs. At an angle of 90 degrees that capacity diminishes to 25%. I would therefore recommend using a shoulder bolt with a nut through the 4x4 (they have a capacity of 2000 lbs and more)

Nice project. I've been thinking about making one for my outdoor covered "cabana" type structure. Two questions: 1. How much would it weigh? I plan on using dried douglas fir for the 4x4s, 2x pine for the rest, painted. I also don't plan on leaving it outside all winter. 2. What to use to cover the mattress? I built some swings for that spot over 15 years ago and the fabric is still doing good.
@MakingMakers
@MakingMakers 3 года назад
Hi Bruce, I can’t remember weighing everything but it is heavy and sturdy. My swing is under a covered porch so no need to protect it, I am sure you can find some outdoor furniture covers that could fit. Let me know if you need anything else. Best of luck with your build!

Hi Making Makers, Great build and lot of thanks for detailing out all the steps for the beginners like me! I have one question for u! 1/2- in x 6'-in eye bolt comes with a nut , right? Why do we need to buy extra Hex nuts? Do we use it somewhere else? Do we need to do anything extra [like locking nuts] from preventing those nuts to come out? Any idea on how many adults [or lbs] this swing can hold? Thanks again. Great effort!
@MakingMakers
@MakingMakers 3 года назад
Hi Ramesh, are you talking about the eye screws that go into the side of the bed or eye bolts that can be used when hanging for ceiling?
@trnaidu2402
@trnaidu2402 3 года назад
@@MakingMakers I was referring to eye bolts that goes into ceiling. Can I use this eye bolt instead for ceiling? www.lowes.com/pd/National-Hardware-1-Count-1-2-in-to-13-x-7-84-in-Galvanized-Uncoated-Steel-Shoulder-Eye-Bolt-with-Hex-Nut/1000390687 Also could you please let me know the length of 1/2-in eye screw that goes to side of the bed. [is 4'' enough?]
@MakingMakers
@MakingMakers 3 года назад
Just saw this question, 4in is fine. For the ceiling it just depends if you are going straight into joists or to a block. The Lowe’s pic is more for a block but that might be what you are going for. If going into ceiling, you would want like an eye screw. Hope that helps. Sorry for any delay.

This is driving me nuts...I admit I am spacially challenged...so...here is my query...When you attached the back 2x6 across the base you attached it on the outer edge of the 4x4....what did you do about the 2 inch gap that was between the 2x6 and the base of the bed....I just can't seem to grasp where that gap went to on yours....sorry about what may appear to be a stupid question but this is baffling this old man...thanks...Butch

Amazing video! Great instructions to follow as well. Question: What type of wood did you use through the project as it'll be an outdoor swing.
@MakingMakers
@MakingMakers 3 года назад
Hi Muhammad, I made mine out of pine/fir and finished with stain & shellac. Since it is in a screened in porch it is holding up just fine. If ur swing is going to be pretty exposed you could do a few things. You could use cedar wood, I don’t see why you couldn’t use Pressure treated (PT) wood...although as it dries it might twist on you. I made another swing for my front porch that gets some rain and the outdoor paint I used is working fine. Just my 2 cents...let me know if you need any more help! Can’t wait to see it.

@MakingMakers
@MakingMakers 4 года назад
Hi Downing, thanks for your question. I tried to reply earlier but I don't see it here. I often use the Kreg drill bit to create insets that I can then use various sized deck screws in. The Kreg bit is 3/8 so just use 3/8 dowels to hide your screw holes. Hope this helps, modify any way you like. Thanks for the kudos Diana! The bed is solid, so no worries there. Pay attention to any printed hardware (chains, hooks etc.) limitations. Should say on the side of whatever you buy.
