You have a fabulous talent. I love your videos. I like to imagine the best way to work with what I have for fabric, and match up that project for someone on my list of who I want to make quilts for. So the equation works out to awesome ideas + stash+ loved one= something truly amazing and always unique. Thank you so much. With this video you solved a problem I was having planning a quilt. One of my sisters is a huge Alice in wonderland fan and I have been collecting Alice fabrics since Tula put out her Alice fabric, plus a piece of licensed I bought a couplenyears ago with her in mind. Anyway.. she was here and oozing at my stash, and loved a fat quarter of a dragon print and a layer cake that doesn't match any of it, and a couple more things. I wanted to find a way to incorporate all the things she liked. So Alice and stuff on one side and dragons on the other. To build enough colors to expand that fat quarter to a throw size quilt, which is the plan, I'm going to steal what I need and break up the remaining jellyroll strips by color. Then the dragon will be divided up and sprinkled around. To assemble the quilt I will do just like your instructions but make the legnth of the cotton batting to be how wide I want the quilt. Then make a few more and assemble them. Theresa down under has a video on how to join quilt as you go blocks. I'll figure out that part when I get there lol. 😊 For table runners, they look addictive, I could see these made for each season and occasion and holiday. This would also be good to make the outer shell of a bag.
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance Год назад
Great ideas! Love this! I love that you will be using dragon fabric and make a full quilt with the quilt as you go method! Love it, love it, love it!

I really enjoyed this tutorial. It is going to be a spring board to Christmas Gifts for friends and family. I think it'll be a great scrap buster. I also enjoy many of your lessons from an old quilt. Thanks so much
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance Год назад
Yay! These will make great gifts! They are perfect for scrap busting. As for the batting, I didn't soak it but I made sure it was pretty wet to the touch. I hope this helps. Hi Kris! This idea is simply delightful. I've never done a QAYG project before. Another new idea to try. My problem with batting is I can never tell which side is supposed to go up (right side) nor have I ever starched anything. Thanks for a great video. ~~ Lynne

Hi Lynne! Yes, that scrim can be tricky! With this, it doesn't matter because it is a small project. Actually, I don't stress about that much in general anyway. I mean, you use both sides of a quilt and you quilt both sides, why does the scrim side matter anyway? Thanks so much for watching! I hope you give it a try!

I really can’t wait to try this. We always get those small jr jelly rolls in boxes subscriptions and I have some I didn’t like the project they offered. Thank you this is great! I love it! Definitely going to do a couple. I think summer and late summer is perfect. I made something similar for Halloween and fall. So much to do so little time.

I like your tutorial- very inspiring. But how did you do the binding? Love the black btw!
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance Месяц назад
I just did a tradition binding where I sewed it to one side and then hand stitched it to the other, but you could use your favorite binding technique. So glad you like this! Thanks for watching!

Oh, wow! I forgot to mention that, didn't I? So sorry! It is Pellon 30/70, but you could use any batting. ❤️

I just do a traditional double-fold binding on this one.

Liquid or spray starch?

I used spray, but I would think liquid would work, too.

@@SewtheDistance Oh, bring 'em on! My parents went thru the Great Depression as teens and young marrieds, and they taught us through example that Thriftiness is almost next to Godliness.....so for me, cutting a corner or finding a way to ''made do with'' is 2nd nature and brings me joy.
