@@patparson4013 & julia raley.....I agree! Now you've just made me want to order another Jelly Roll! I made a couple of the "Present Quilt" in Christmas fabrics a couple of years ago for my two sisters and thought about making myself one too this year, but I really like this tutorial and your idea for using Christmas Prints! Here's the Present Quilt Tutorial I am referring to from MSQC's Tutorials ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cOFCY7-2Uo4.html

Such a great block. Your accent is gorgeous. I learned to speak in Canada, then moved to the north east of England where the accent is really broad. My brother then moved to the south of England where the accent is more sing song, then we moved to Australia. I adapted and sound like a local but my brother has them all scratching their heads. His accent is a wonderous mish mash of everything.

We often have the same problem inside the United States! Get a New Yorker, a Texan, a Californian and a Missourian in the same room, and you'll be convinced we're not all speaking the same language!

Paula Isaac I know just what you mean! I was born in Vermont (US), but moved several times as a kid when I was 9. Went Arizona, then the south (10years), with a stint in NY for a year, and then to Ohio for 10 before I finally made it back to my childhood hometown in Vermont. I am now a Vermont native with a southern accent! I guess that makes me pretty unique. Lol. My husband appreciates it though. He’s also a Vermont native with a traveling record. His mother is a Deep South native and came to Vermont after marrying his father. I always thought it interesting how it worked out that way. I loved “hearing” your story, Paula! It’s amazing how moving so much shapes who we become and changes our dialect.

Another fun block! I don’t know how you guys come up with so many of these patterns, but I’m glad you do! Tip: when sewing a four patch together, if you spin your seams so they are all going in the same directions (either clockwise or counter clockwise) your blocks will always match up with nested seams. The trick is to make sure the ALL spin the same way. Thank your for sharing another pattern.

Fantastic tutorial. You always know how to make things much easier. Thanks for leaving the blooper in (starts 11min 17 sec) ... that made me realize no matter which sides you sew together, they will properly match because each side of the square is the same as the other 3 sides. Beautiful Quilt. Keep up the good work ... you have so many wonderful ideas.

A lovely quilt, Jenny. Macrame is said the same way in UK and Australia. it's the tomato potato thing all over. I enjoy your tutorials every week, Fridays has now become Jenny Doan Day. I would find it useful with the tutorials, if you could say whether the whole pre-cut pack is used in a project or not, as then I would know what to delve deep and find in my scrap box or what yardage might be needed to cut my own strips/squares. Thank you for the inspiration x.

Hi Jenny, Here is Scotland we call it the same as your Australian friend the word Macramé, it's strange when you listen to the different words and how they are pronounced in different parts of the world. There are so many words, names and places that are pronounced so different even in the same country, and i know that we Scots are bad for naming places, that even the English get the pronunciation wrong . This block makes a lovely quilt and i'm all for waste not, want not in using the cut off corners for another part of the quilt and then it is not costing any extra in extending the quilt, but it finishes it off in a beautiful way. You're little bonus piece i think would go very nicely on top of a chest of drawers in the room and it just brings the rest of the room into the colour and design scheme. Thank you Jenny for your lovely quilt design and for sharing it's requirements with us, crafty hugs, Norah, Glenochil Village, Scotland

This is so great! I am inspired already. Jenny, I think it might help to interest people in the entire fabric line if, at the end of each video, you did a real close scan of the detail in the quilt. Not a time-hogging scan but a brief and sweeping close-up. It would tie up the video and let us see the rest of the fabrics. I am grateful for all your beautiful tutorials.Thank you.

Speaking of Macramé, does anyone remember those hanging bassinets that people were making in the 70/80's out of the hanging chairs? My sister was gifted one for her 3rd baby, her first girl, who is now 44 yrs old and a mama herself(of 5) Here's a photo of a Hanging Chair that Overstock sells. I don't remember these chairs being that expensive back in 1975 though! www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Carova-Single-Hanging-Chair-by-Avenue-405-N-A/28877107/product.html?recset=5e4b3528-d2f2-4bbd-851d-6778f19c8a31&refccid=P76YEPU5ROU3ORCJBI7C5AJPMA&searchidx=1&guid=6cbd040e-1c4b-459f-adf3-1693c4958839&recalg=63&recidx=0&osp=true&kwds=hanging%20chairs&rfmt= *********************************************************************** Here's a "square" Macrame Bassinet.....I think the hanging Chair ones had a pattern that came from an old (?) magazine....Mother Earth News (maybe)?? Would anyone remember this? Here's the "square" hanging Bassinet : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OVgBpow2dXo.html

So, doing the math, 7 across by 7 down makes 49 blocks. There are only 42 strips in a jelly roll. So where do you take the extra blocks from as it doesn't look like there is enough left from your strip after cutting the initial pieces?
@MissouriQuiltCo
@MissouriQuiltCo 4 года назад
Between all the strips, you'll have more than enough leftovers to make the extra blocks, Sara! You may end up with a few that are a little scrappy, though, if you don't have duplicates in your jelly roll. Hope this helps!
