Day of, I make turkey & stuffing & roast carrots with maple glaze - prob 2 hrs (small turkey). All the sides like corn pudding and pies are made abt 2-3 weeks before, wrapped well and frozen, defrost in the fridge day before.
Well, a few years back, we had everybody bring a dish. We ended up with 2 turkeys 3 hams and enough side dishes to look like lubys. One of the neighbors asked what I made since Rod deep fried one of the tyrkeys... I said "A PLATE".
It’s amazing how different everyone makes this sweet potato pies. My mom used to put evaporated milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, butter, a little dash of flower for binder, lemon extract and vanilla extract.
Thanks Camirra for the sweet potato pie tips for the holiday. Good time management is the key for cooking during the holidays. Prior food preparation and having organizing skills. Really helps reduce time and work when you are cooking a lot of food at once. Blessings to you my Soul Food Sister!! 🙏🏾♥️🌺
U need to get your sweet potato pies and other desserts in the grocery stores like Patti Labelle. Have your own line of food products. U can do it CW!🎉🎉🎉
I will be using your method! I love the idea of being able to make multiple pies during this season. When I worked, I would begin preparations on the Tuesday before Thanksiving and take off the day before. My sister and I divide up the cooking so it's not overwhelming. I love your hair, by the way ❤.
Thanks so much this is really a big help for me cause working late and on the day before thanksgiving I need all the tips you. You are a blessing to us ❤
I love you first cousin because I typically start my cooking a couple days prior because that’s how my mama always did it but honey I am still in the kitchen too long. I am seriously about to take your tips my love. So much love and blessings and tight squeezes and big ole suga to you Suga 💞🌸💞🌸
Thank you for the sweet potato pie instruction. Do you have a red velvet recipe and the icing that you could teach us new bakers, please. Thank you and have a nice holiday season.
Thank you so much for your beautiful channel!! *You are beautiful and sweet potato pie is a favorite. (Those clean hands are how you put the love in the food!! Really like that you are hands-on!!)
My mother makes the sweet potatoes and she batch makes them throughout the year because they are that good. I live in the south so I grocery shop a week before from the menu I make. Then that Monday I start prepping ingredients to start that Wednesday cooking.
I had a dear Church sister who made the best sweet potato pies.. She told me how to do it but I didn't write the recipe down.. She passed away and I haven't had a good one since.. So I said this year thanks to the wonderful World of You tube and Ms Camirra , I can do it🤗 When I saw you use that heavy cream I said yess that's the one I will make!!!!! Thanks for sharing
I know ya'll are busy cooking! As a cook, my least fav thing to do is cook all day thanksgiving haha. ironic, but with all the youtube videos i do, im just super tired. im trying to get on that make days or weeks in advance life
You’re the first video I clicked on for freezing sweet potato pie filling. I’m looking no further thanks! I’m about to put my sweet potatoes in the oven now.
You are so welcome! I hope you love it! its so easy! im literally making pies today from my frozen filling. defroseted in like 10 min at room temp. love doing this
I love your recipe for make ahead and freeze sweet potato pie, I love your recipe too because it's exactly how I make my pie. I am now a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing!
I think I’m gonna try this method. Last year I attempted my own version of sweet potato pie recipe actually twice. 1st time I did it with the immersion blender & hand mixer & the second time I did it with my big stand mixer with my paddle attachment. I have a food processor but I have yet to try that method out yet. I’ll give it a shot this year.
the only way to pressure can is with a instant pot max, electric pressure canner, or manual pressure canner. you can freeze the filling instead if you don't want to get the equipment for canning
I've never put lemon in my pies. I freeze them before baking and they come out find, delicious. I put the fill in and the pre-made frozen crust that you buy from the store. Freeze it and then when it's time I bake it off. I did not need the lemon.
i dont have the freezer space to make up the pie then bake from frozen, but it would for sure work! the lemon works well if you are canning. certain canning recipes rely on low acidity combined with pressure canning to make them shelf stable. but also the lemon taste good in the sweet potato pie. give it a try in a small amount and see what you think
Thank you so much for all this information. One question, in your sweet potato recipe, candied, sweet potatoes, you mentioned, using cream of coconut to enhance the flavor. Have you ever thought of using that in your pie, maybe to supplement or replace the heavy cream?
yes it could be used in a pie, the same way condensed milk could be used in a pie. if you like a mild coconut flavor it would be good. if you plan to use cream of coconut(like coco lopez) or condensed milk reduce the sugar in this recipe as they will add sugar. actually you can use coconut cream (unsweetened) instead of heavy cream if you want a coconut flavor but not more sugar. i have not tried that, but it would for sure work. i have cocnut cream in my fridege, so maybe ill test it on some of my premade filling.
It takes over 6 hrs for me. I am cooking curry goat , rice and gungo peas , stir fry vegetables ( pak choy, snap peas, carrots and mung beans , ecovietch fish , festival , coleslaw , sorrel drink , sweet potato pudding and finally a bottle of baileys.
Hello, DELISH looking pies - recipe duly noted. Could this be the case w/your oven's racks? There is a raised 'notch' approx 4" in from their front edge - the rack 'may' be in backwards, as the notch is is meant to be a secondary STOP as you pull the rack out - to stop at that lowered break in the oven's side track so it doesn't just pull out completely.
We stopped Thanksgiving two years ago. My children found out what really happened with the Native Americans. They like, no mama we good. However I don't mind making this. Looks good.
"Alright now, I'm gone put in a dump truck of sugar. Look, go on put it in there." Camirra sweetheart you took me out and I thank you for that. Can't play no games with the Thanksgiving meal. So nice to virtually meet you, sending my love to you and yours. ❤
Happy Sunday Chef Camirra 👩🏾🍳, very good preparation for thanksgiving with the sweet potato pie filling 🍠🍠🍠🥧🥧🥧 looks absolutely delicious 😋 well done 👏🏽👸🏽👑💛💐🧡💐🤗🥰
Heeeeey I fried the fish yesterday and the crispy was wooooow my family think I’m something, I said Camorra kitchen thank her they say thank you I’m your fan
I start two weeks making desserts that can be frozen. I do prep and anything that can be reheated a couple of days before. Only thing has to be done last day is the big piece of meat, mashed taters, & gravy.
I love your videos sis! And stop participating in the Clean Olympics. Let them people suffer. Just keep minding your business, drinking your water and posting amazing content.
I make everything the day of but I love your freezer method and add fresh ing day of (i didn't see butter, i guess your fat qas enough from heavy cream). I would love to see you do cornbread stuffing, baked mac and cheese and if you do sweet corn pudding, cany yams. These are my go tos for Thanksgiving
@@CamirrasKitchen as soon as I remove the skin from baked potatoes I put the hot potatoes on top of cream cheese and butter to melt them, so rich and creamy.
VERY VERY HELPFUL, just wish there were a recipe for 1-2 pies, could you tailor a recipe for me for that amount, just a father trying to make my family smile on Thanksgiving😊
if you subscribe then turn on the bell you will be notified when i post. when it come up jsut click. i cant tag ppl on youtube unfortunately. should come out soon.
My mother told me that sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie, our breakfast food. Ha ha ha. It’s also a vegetable. Do you have a pumpkin pie recipe. I used to volunteer for a living history museum. And before Thanksgiving every year we would do a complete Thanksgiving meal over a fireplace. I would start at like five in the morning, preparing everything and moving it from my home to the Historic building that I was going to cook in from 5 o’clock in the morning till four in the afternoon that’s like about 11 hours. Give or take some breaks in there. Now, if I’m cooking in a modern kitchen, I make the pies the night before I get the string bean casserole ready the only thing I cook the day of is the bird, the potatoes, the sweet potatoes, the carrots, and the gravy, and of course the turkey and I would start at about six in the morning and Dinner was between one to three somewhere in there. And when I’m cooking, I’m the only one in the kitchen cooking. I have a very small kitchen. I really gotta look forward to having this whole Thanksgiving series. Thank you so much for doing this. Kathy.
I have a very small kitchen as well. Thats one of the things that motivated me to do this. I wanted to help out ppl like me that have 1 oven, a regular to smallish fridge, and a small freezer. i can freeze, but cant do a ton of dishes at one time in there.
you can actaully make this recipe sugar free or with any sugar you prefer. follow it as stated and just change to your favorite sugar alternative. i would use a little at a time until it get to the flavor you like. i like truivia
Welllll...I'm gone do better this year. My name is Last-Minute Minnie and I've been a procrastinator all my life. I'm that mother that have my children over helping me and gittin' on their nerves cuz I be rushing them. Lord Help Thanksgiving 2023 be My Year to Be On Time.
not really because you arent adding any liquid. when you make the pie you can put eveything in the blender to get the strings out. but to freeze the mix, you can leave the string in. then blend with the heavy cream when you make the pie.
@@CamirrasKitchen Thanks Camirra! I live in Kenya. We don't do pies much here. I've only ever eaten this once, earlier this year, and it was to die for!!!
i just didnt in this recipe b/c i already added the sugar. heavy cream is richer, but if you want to use condensed milk then you should cut the sugar back
It's that sweet potato pie season, If you say pum&!# pie I swear I'll desub. I do have a but...Instead of all lemon juice I split it half & half with OJ and evaporated milk instead of Hcream. I'll try the Heavy Cream this time thanks.
Hunny, the next time you feel the need to explain to these folks why you are using your bare hands to cook, you tell them, "These hands are tried and trusted by my family and close friends, I am not cooking for you to eat this right here today Boo!!"
its no more complicated than any other sweet potato pie. all i did was freeze some of the filling for later. whats your method for making sweet potato pie?
@@CamirrasKitchen actually I am trying to learn how to make sweet potato pies. My wife and I are from Africa and we are trying to learn how to cook African American food for the Thanksgiving holiday. My wife really wants to learn how to cook the food.
