Vanessa, Wow what an awesome video!! I have watched a number of the dish towel videos others have made and although they are all good - they are not as informative as your's as far as making the button hole goes. Button holes scare me along with zippers but, after watching many zipper videos last weekend I think I can do one and tomorrow when my eyes are better in the morning I want to get my button hole foot out and read the directions. I have a Bernina with a metal foot. I like your voice, your diction is always great. I love your craft room and all you have on your walls - the colors everything you display is an eye catcher too. In 2015 I watched how to make the catch-all fabric baskets and I shared my pattern with a friend who was learning how to sew last summer (her business is card making) and wow - she has been making your baskets like crazy and selling them at her craft sales. Now she is using cam snaps in colors to match the fabric because you can unsnap it and lay it flat to iron it. She made one for my birthday with my initials in gold vinyl (she also has a cricket and makes vinyl crafts too). I took the basket to Sanibel with me in November to put on my dresser in the condo to put my barrettes and jewelry in. I can no longer make the baskets to sell because now she makes them to sell and if we are doing the same sale I want her's to be bought. At Christmas time I made one of your baskets a tad bigger and on each corner I sewed a thin grosgrain ribbon and tied a bow on the top of the corner and put pretty Christmas napkins in it. I thought this afternoon on making one the size of business cards to hold my cards that I hope to order soon. I stick to a budget and keep changing my mind as to what little picture to have on my card as I sew and bead and make note cards. Hopefully tomorrow I will get a new cartridge for my printer too so I can download your templet. Thanks again for an awesome video.

if you are planning on giving this to someone who is elderly or has arthritis, buttons are the bane of our existence. It is a little more expensive, but the magnetic snaps that can be sewn in work great or even sew in a piece of velcro ( i prefer the magnets as they don't get messy like velcro eventually will. But it is less expensive.), and you can always sew on a decorative button if you want. also i wouldn't cut your tea towel in half. tea towels are thin, and fairly inexpensive. when you cut it in half it makes it look cheap. by just putting your basting stitch on the center line you will end up with a fuller looking hanging towel. or you can simply lay it flat then fold it into thirds the width of the topper. then fold in 1/2. no gathering involved. this will give you a very neat and tidy appearance. this is nice for towels with writing on it that you want people to see.

@Carol-Bell
@Carol-Bell 8 лет назад
+Jennie Wallick Oh try it out, just look at your book but follow what Vanessa does on the video -- it's VERY easy, you put the button into the back area of the buttonhole foot, put it on the machine, pull down the little plastic thing to sit against the foot (your machine book will explain) -- once you get this, you won't want to use anything else! Try it out on some scrap fabric and use a 3/4" or less sized button -- try it out when it's NOT part of a project... it only takes 5 minutes or less.

@Carol-Bell
@Carol-Bell 8 лет назад
+Jennie Wallick That is so cool! Yes it took a little practice for me too -- this towel project was the first time using the buttonhole function on my machine, too (it's 18 months old)... doing it on a towel is a little different than on a garment will be, but at least you figured out how the buttonhole function works:) Happy New Year, may you have lots of fun sewing throughout the whole year, and be brave and try out new things!
