You need the second to position the blade horizontal. I prefer to open the eye of the hook or jig if possible and no split ring is needed. Better action.
Chatterbaits work no doubt. But I think they are overrated. The old tried and true spinnerbait still catches fish and big fish. To me it is more weedless than any Chatterbait. And has way more customization possibilities than any Chatterbait. This allows it to be more versatile for different types of conditions. I have over 30 years experience building spinnerbaits buzz baits and jigs I spend 2 years experimenting with Chatterbaits and this is my opinion and conclusion. Other people may have different experiences.
