Important note: your sample rate does not matter. Higher doesn’t mean “better.” Not in a streaming/content creation sense. You need to make sure your sample rate matches your computer’s/audio interface’s sample rate. If you have 2 different sample rates It’ll create clocking issues or stop working entirely.
That is true!! (Probably should have added that caveat) I mostly do it, cause I record a lot of my audio in Premiere pro for my videos So while 96khz isn't necessarily "better" Quality it may help avoid audio distortions and issues Especially if I manipulate my audio a lot in editing Plus because its divisible by 48/24 it also means it shouldn't "shift" or drift away from the video over longer takes I've defo made the mistake of recording in 44.1hz before and had to resync the audio every couple of mins 😅
-hey! i'm wondering if you can help me out :( i'm trying to follow your tutorial but i'm stuck on the first plugin. No matter what i do with the noise gate, it has no effect on my audio and doesn't cut out anything no matter how high i put it. any ideas?- scratch that i've figured it out! I was using the wrong input in OBS haha. this is such a great video, thank you!!
Any idea how I get rid of white noise in the audio (NOT background noise) - it's not super present but slightly audible, like a constant static/white noise. Maybe that comes from the gain? I'm using the Shure MOTIV MV7+ with an XLR cable.
As someone who owned this product for more than a year now and paired it with the Elgato Wave XLR, its a really really better device compared to my old HyperX Quadcast. Super satisfied with my purchase. For the equalizer, I really do suggest play around with it first. Its really straight forward but if you want to use the presets and tweak it to your liking then that can definitely make things work faster. The Elgato Noise Suppresion ONLY WORKS properly when you have an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. As an amd user, it only mutes the background a bit. I've tried it with an NVIDIA RTX Graphics card and the difference is massive. IF you are wondering can it mute "AC Noise" or "FAN NOISE" yes it absolutely can, with RTX card or an AMD graphics card. If you pair this with the Wave XLR like what I am doing, volume pick up for the mic can be set to 75%. Anything above that, you'd best have good room treatment otherwise it'll start picking up even the slight background noise. De-esser is a very nice addition.
I am using an Elgato Wave 1 microphone which I understand is a Condenser mic, should I put the Input Gain further to the left side then as shown in your graphic? In my Wave Link Software there is no graphic shown for the Input Gain
96khz isnt 100% Necessary for most people.. Especially if its just for live streaming, it helps a bit with recording but if you don't "Edit" your audio much in post then you probably wont even notice much of a difference... Something to check though is in OBS go to settings > Audio > General > and make sure your "Sample Rate" is set to 48khz. if its at 44.1khz that'll be lower quality and the Rates wont match so that might cause audio issues as well as potentially lose "sync" with cameras..
Anytime!! I'm just glad I can help..🔥 I dont know EVERYTHING yet But I spent a good portion of last year trying to learn and perfect most of my audio settings etc so I thought the least I could do is try and help others improve theirs without wasting Months of research and making mistakes like i did😅
I have an Entire video on here about loudmax by itself 🤭 It does seem a bit confusing at first but once you get your head around it, it's not too bad. 2 sliders Bottom one is your output volume so you set that as the "max" volume you want that sources audio to be. (For vocals I set that at -5db ish) And the top one is the Threshold where the audio starts being compressed... I normally start with it completely to the right And while talking lower it until my voice is hitting around -5 or the orange bar doesn't move or barely moves.. If the bar is moving too much it usually means your audio is over compressed and can start sounding weird or a bit distorted
This has to be one of the easiest to follow setup videos I've seen. Thank you. I've been struggling to get my SM7B to sound right since I got it.. just an endless fight with levels and clipping and seemingly having OBS filters that just don't seem to do anything. Hopeful this video will help me out while I still have some hair left haha. May I ask a dumb question? If you have all these filters set via WaveLink.. can I then just put the mic straight in to OBS without any follow up tweaking IN OBS? Or should I still be doing something to it there?
Yes! You don't need to do anything extra in obs at all.🥰 In Obs you can either import the mic by itself (MicrophoneFX input) That way it's seperate from other sounds and is easier to mute music etc in "Vod" tracks etc then Or you can input the "stream mix" which includes ALL of your audio sources from wavelink as 1 channel. But you'd have to make any live volume changes etc in wavelink or use a streamdeck then
I'm so glad I could help!!! I've had so many people ask me questions about my setup recently, So I thought making a FULL walkthrough of everything would be useful for everyone haha
3:46 Does "until you're hitting around -12 or so" mean peaking at -12db or having your overall voice consistently stay at -12db? 11:16 Same thing here. Should we be peaking between -5 and -10 or having our overall voice consistently stay in that range? PS: Thank you for this tutorial, these plugins are really helpful :)
Hell yeah!! Its great software but there's so many options n potential filters etc that's its hard to figure out what you should use. So im Glad the video helped 🔥
I used tthe Noise supressor from marketplace and although my noise is gone from the fans , I still hear a kind of crackling metalic sound in the audio. Also there is a lag in the sound I hear when playing back the recording. So it looks like more slow speaking. I have to find out what to do with that problem. Maybe a setting in obs. I know it is there. Maybe I should try the RTX noise remover ? I am now on another none RTX computer though.
For me, the elgato noise removal cut my "s" noise a lot and sometime cut some of my words and the start or at the end of some sentence, it makes an incredible work on masking the noises arouind me since i'm in a kinda noisy environment with a loud keyboard to but the fact that it cut my words sometime is bothering me i don't know if i should continue to use it :/ i don't know if it's the best for streaming and all
would you happen to know why when I download the preset my equalizer doesn't have that same menu button beside the name when I try to adjust the settings. The presets weren't downloading before so unistalled and reinstalled the wavelink software and the presets download now, but they aren't showing up in the EQ settings
I was going to lurk this for the support but now I’m cutting hubby n my tv time short so I can go upstairs to go play with audio. What have you done?! 🤩 Also love your editing style! 😍
I actually have the same guide but for OBS too in a different video ;) You would be better setting it up all in the Rodecaster though if you can figure it out and then JUST setup the limiter/Loudmax in OBS etc
Great informative video. My only problem is I extract and put rough rider in my vst 3 folder. When I go to scan for vst plugins every vst you recommended will show up but rought rider 3
I think for Rough Rider (at least the file I downloaded) had an installer rather than having to manually copy the files to my VST3 folder.. Once id ran the installer and restarted wavelink Rough rider just appeared in my Filter options 🤔 Under "audio damage, inc"
Great choice tbh!! 🔥 (Especially the new white one 👀) I've been really impressed with it so far... even comparing it to my SM7B it holds up at 3X cheaper
another amazing video i think i might of fixed somethings with this but also might look into a few things like maybe changing the mini goxlr to maybe the new stream deck+ dock for xlr mics but gonna check into it more but again thanks for the info and the help keep up the great job bro
If there's anything you need to specifically know let me know!! I used to have a full size goxlr before I moved to my now ALL elgato setup so i defo relate to your thought process 😅
@@ajsarsfield It really did! 🔥 I tried to set it up on my own by just trying different settings but I found myself just blindly moving things around. Your video really did help me understand what everything does and what works best. Keep up the great work mate, you've got a new subscriber in me! 👍
This video was super helpful! The only issue I'm having now is trying to get my mechanical keyboard noises to not get picked up when I'm talking without it also cutting out any yelling/screaming I might do during a stream. :'( That's the biggest issue I have with trying both the RNNoise filter in OBS and the Nvidia Noise Removal in Wave Link and I'm not sure if there's a way to fix that especially when it comes to having a higher pitched yell. I'm currently using a Wave 3
Great choice tbh!! I really like the Podmic, they sound awesome and are built like a tank! Did you see the new Coloured Pop filters RODE just announced?
@@ajsarsfield For sure. I had some trouble setting up the VSTS I think if possible you should also add the steps for that as well next time or did I miss it? For me I had to copy the VSTs in the CommonFiles/VST3 folder on windows 11 and run a scan from 'Settings > Audio Effects'. Anyway working like charm now. Thanks again.
Appreciate the feedback! i might make a VST specific guide going through those steps! Although the specific location can be different on different machines/windows versions but I'm sure that's something i can mention...
loved the formatting of this video, was very straight forward and helpful - i've tried out all plugins and filters shown, but it feels like my microphone has only been made louder :') I can't really tell a difference! should I be messing around with the equalisation some more?
Most of the other filters are there for volume balance & overall loudness but EQ is the one that will change the sound of your microphone. so if you aren't 100% happy with how it sounds on your voice atm, then yeah you might have to tweak it a bit so you find a sound you like. EQ is very subjective though! so its difficult for me to make a video saying "This is how YOU should have it setup." That's why I suggest starting with the presets and then you can kinda tweak it from there to suit your voice. Plus the Elgato EQ at least tells you what each frequency range will be changing...
half of these vst are not working. Either they want you to pay through patreon or they just give you a file that one put in files common vst they do not show up in xlr hub.
@@ajsarsfield yeah I don’t know. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but they give me a zip file. I unzip it. I put it where they tell me to put it and then when I look through the waves software, it doesn’t show up the only ones that show up are the Elgato ones. and the rough Rider one and then one of them when I go to the page it’s a Patreon and I want you to subscribe for five dollars to get it
Hey brother thank you for replying and thank you for your work.and I got a stream deck plus and I want to learn how to set up my sounds with it like game, stream, discord and like Spotify.theres a lot of people making videos on how but they don’t go into detail and I like what you just did in that video the went into detail and broke it down perfectly
I have a wave 3 mic and installed all the plugin's and followed all the steps. In the end you can still hear my mouse clicking when I speak (not when I don't speak) and the OBS meter still comes in the red when i talk loudly even though i have set the LoudMax... how can I fix this? Especially the mouse clicking/keyboard sound. It's very annoying if that comes through while talking.
@KB-rx2wp No that's not correct. To work with Wave Link you have to set the Wave Link Stream as your microphone source. Your mic input will transfer through MicrophoneFX
@Lindastyle You can set each wave link channel up as individual audio sources. If you want all of your sounds to go through the stream output, then yes. I prefer to separate each track in obs to apply duckers and other effects. Also makes it easier for troubleshooting sound issues.
i think they recently removed the file from where I originally got it and moved it into a "legacy" VST's part of the site... *finds link* www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy Should be in there ^^ I'll update the video description too so others can find it easily.
This link?? www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy Thats really weird.. I downloaded it from that site and opened the "windows" installer and it juat appeared in my wavelink Have you gone into wavelink settings and had it check for installed plugins? (Cog settings top right and it's in there somewhere) Once installed properly it'll be under "audio damage > rough rider) Let me know if you can figure it out! If not you could always download the Elgato Compressor from the marketplace.. you can still set it up with the same settings, I just prefer how Rough rider sounds
not specifically an elgato microphone but You do need some form of elgato hardware.. The Stream deck + and the Wave XLR interface both unlock Wavelink which can be used with ANY microphone after that I have an SM7B & a Rode Podmic and use these settings in wavelink
Agreed. The advertisement of any mic is very misleading to just plug'n play mics. There's no documentation online showing how to set up a mic without some elgato device. I'm trying to find a good audio software to pair with a Vivitar usb mic but have to look elsewhere. -.-
Loads of options if you don't want/cant use elgato wave link... (Most are free) Voicemeeter banana Steelseries Sona Logitech mixline Obs studio Streamlabs (These 2 only work for recording & streams though, not discord etc) & RODE unify but that costs $45 a year if you don't own certain Rode products
Uuurgh!! Apparently the latest version of wavelink is having some issues on Mac (Or so I've been told) I'd @elgatosupport on Twitter(X) and see if they can help you get it working properly. Cause its supposed to look the same as what's in my video (on windows) But I've had a few people comment similar things recently.. Hopefully they can sort it out for you ASAP And then you can come back and set up the filters 🙃
