I've been messing around with OBS and trying to automate my video creation more. This is BY FAR the clearest and best mic setup totorial I've found over this past week. I tweaked a little bit of the settings, but this made my mic sound perfect during recordings. THANK YOU SIR!
Hell yeah! I'm so glad it helped!🔥 One of the main reasons i try to explain what everything does is so you can make those tweaks and actually understand what you're doing!
I'm so glad it was helpful! 🔥 I had so many audio issues when I first started out so I defo know the pain 😅 This video currently gets about 300-400 views a day, so I'm sure it'll keep helping people for a while🤞
Man this video saved me! I tried SO MANY different things to prevent my mic from clipping/cutting out when I got too loud. Turns out it was the noise suppression! Using speex instead of RNnoise is much better if you plan on getting louder or even screaming in your videos/streams! That little comment about RNnoise making you cut out when too loud just saved me a lot more headache. I really appreciate it lol!
Its SUCH a common issue... It doesn't happen to everyone but it happens enough for me to mention it 😅 I'm so glad you figured it out though and your mic isn't clipping/ cutting out any more 🔥🔥🔥
Wow.... I've seen at least XX number of different tuts on "best mic settings for OBS" over the past few years, and FINALLY there's one where you explain everything why it's like that, why it needs to be at those values/levels, what they do and why it's useful to have them. It all made sense and understandable to so many of us mortals, and it's all so easily explained and straight-forward! No bs and crap. Big thanks for both the TDR Nova EQ + LoudMax plugin tips! Such underrated plugins, much like you and your channel is! Also, big PROPS for not using background music throughout your tut as well! Definitely liked and subbed! One of the most underrated vids and tuts I've come across on YT. Bloody well done, mister. Have a good one. :)
Thank you SO MUCH for the kind words.. 1 of my issues with vids like this, has always been people explain "What to do" but never why they're doing it 🙃 And that means you don't learn how to tweak it to fit your voice & mic etc.. So I Try to sprinkle that info in, so you can use my settings as a guideline and then tweak it a bit if you arent happy with how it sounds on your voice... Appreciate your message though, and Thanks for checking out the Vid/Channel 🔥
bRO this is so helpful and PROfessional. Thank you for explaining each filter & its factors. As well as explaining how to decide which values through easy methods.
THANK YOU!! I noticed most other guides would explain WHAT settings to use but never would explain why to use them or what they do So I figured I'd explain it a bit more, so you can tweak it for your own setup 🔥
This is a perfect reproduction of the steps we take for the sound checks on our TTRPG streams, thanks for putting this out man! Next video should be Mixing multiple mics as Browser inputs from VDO where folks are all using different mics and putting it together in a mix for a stream :D
That sounds like an absolute nightmare to manage 😅 I imagine there are a lot of people that would be interested in that type of video though, Especially with how popular online TTRPG or podcast content is at the moment
Thank you so much for this video. I applied every setting you recommended and it sounds great! I really appreciate it. Thanks for explaining the reasoning for each setting. Cheers!
Thank YOU for the kind words!! I know there's a few tutorials out there like this one but not many people broke down the "why" in theirs, so I tried to at least Include that info so you know what it does & can tweak the settings a bit if you need to!
Appreciate the kind words!! I know how confusing this stuff csn be 🙃 so I tried to give good settings while also explaining HOW things work so people can tweak to their own taste 🔥
Thank you so much!! I know a lot of these types of guides show you "what" to do but not many explain why or how it actually affects your microphone So I tried to add that info in where I could 🔥
Thank you so much!! 🔥 The Wave 3 is a fantastic mic for the price Although if you can/don't mind the extra work... Setting up these filters in Elgatos "Wavelink" software is probably a better option. Mostly cause the audio will sound the same everywhere then not just good when streaming or recording in obs
I do filters kinda like this but same decent sound then I do a ffmpeg 32 bit float to get lossless audio to make sure I have complete control of the audio and clear sound 😎 in my previous video my mic messed up and I couldn’t fix it so I the 32 bit float helps a lot
@@ajsarsfieldyes I am mad at my self for not setting that up sooner 🤦♂️😂 it saved me so much time and made my audio 10 times better I changed to xlr setup I use to use hyper quad cast x and I notice the 32 bit float sounds better on xlr side even with filters on obs 😅
But I should of mentioned that 32 bit float does not work on adobe premier pro it’s been reported they haven’t fixed it so I use Davinci resolve 18 cuz adobe won’t show the tracks for anything other then regular flac
so funny enough there wasn't anything wrong with my mic apparently my audio likes to kinda go limp sometimes when listening to my recording, so made a video sounded good before, didn't touch anything. then poof, crap so i messed up my filters and I'm here to fix them because I'm an idiot so much appreciated!
Makes a change right?? 😅 I hated when I was first learning this stuff and everyone just said "these are the settings you need" But never explained why or what happens if you change them. I expect people to tweak this eventually to fit their own voice, so figured adding that info in would help 🔥
i have a 3050 rtx but no nvidia voice removal also heres my opinion on speex and rnn noise: i dont like speex bc it takes all of my keyboard sound (WHICH IS SO ANNOYING) so i would prefer rnn (but i dunno about the RNN scream thing)
good settings, thanks for that. but without an Expander i've got Background Noises like Keyboard typing etc. Got the ''t.bone SC 420'' and it's a bit sensitive.
Really good video, thanks. Trouble getting my Røde Procaster and Røde Streamer X (bad alpha product when it comes to video) to deliver top class sound. I'm a perfectionist, so it's holding me back from getting started with video production :)
Thank you!! I used to actually have/use a Procaster as my main microphone too. (I only got rid of it because its massive, especially with the shock mount) Rode hardware is honestly great but they really need to work on improving the software side of things, both for audio & video if they could do that they'd be a Perfect choice for most things..
@@ajsarsfield I was also quite surprised by the size of the Procaster :D Doesn't quite fit my Elgato Wave Mic Arm Low Profile :D Must admit I'm really disappointed with Røde at the moment, they're abdicating responsibility, making lots of excuses but no solutions. Think they have sent too many products to the market in far too short a time. Thanks for replying.
My SM7B?? At this moment in time, I'm STILL using my GoXLR for that mic (I have a video on all my specific settings for that) However I think I'm moving to a Wave XLR soon ( less space) so I'll have to do all the same stuff with VSTS.. No doubt, I'll end up making Videos about the best "Wavelink" settings and VSTs soon
I have a love hate relationship with RNnoise.. Great for removing background noise and fans etc.. BUT if I get loud or laugh etc it sometimes decided to cut that off 🙃
Everybody is being so complimentary and I get it - he did a good job explaining many things but - if this is a video to help beginners such as myself where did the first screen come from and how do you get it in order to follow along on my own screen? Did Dumbledorf magically appear and put it there? How do I get my screen to the same image (same downloaded software/name it/ identify it) and doing the same thing????
Do you mean OBS studio?? Or something else? I assumed people would have at least got that far if they're searching for the best audio settings for that software/streaming
Oooh, gonna take a few watches of this one, I feel like this will be INVALUABLE advice ^_^ only question I have is, how much different would this advice/settings be for a headset microphone? I'm running an Audio-Technica BPHS1 headset mic, which is fantastic quality but obviously struggles a bit to match traditional microphones, and I wasn't sure how certain settings would be different for a microphone like this? :)
Its pretty standard "microphone" advice So I assume most of it would carry over quite well.. EQ would defo need tweaking though, As well as figuring out a good mic position... I know headset mics can often have a TON of plosives becsuse of how close to your mouth they are I should really do a full "Headset Mic" deep dive video and figure out what would work best for that at some point 🤔
@@ajsarsfieldFabulous! I believe I've already used some of your settings/advice from a TikTok you made, and it's sounding pretty great already, so that would make sense! And yeah, I have to be very careful with mic positioning - it's a careful balance between just too far away, or just slightly too close and plosives being a big issue. If you want to do a full headset mic deep dive that would be amazing
i just bought the am8 fifine microphone, and i intend to make youtube videos with it do you recommend using the basic equalizer or download the more professional one
You'll get a better sound out of the more pro one... But it might take a bit more tweaking to get it perfect for your voice! Worth it in the long run though 🔥
If that's your ONLY options.. I'd choose the Wave 3.. Podmic is a great mic BUT The Fifine mixer doesn't have that much audio control, no software & barely has enough power for the Podmic so might sound a bit "Hissy" or noisy at the correct volume.. The Wave 3 on the other hand might let in a little bit more background noise (easily fixed with filters) But you get the Elgato "wavelink" software which is honestly amazing for controlling all your audio when live streaming or just generally using your PC etc & it can be plugged into USB phones/Tablets to record audio too
I still don't have a mixer and my budget is around 60€ is there a good one i can get for that price , last thing would you prefer wave dx or podmic . If there isn't a good option for the mixer i should probably stick with wave 3 right @@ajsarsfield
There aren't TOO many good "Mixers" in the $60 range.. Good enough for fifine, tonor, maono entry level mics but you'll have to upgrade pretty quickly as soon as you want anything better than that.. So id still go for the Wave 3 mic for now... or even check out the new "Wave Neo" which might be a good cheaper option too if you are really on a budget.. Same microphone/audio quality as the Wave 3 it just lacks a physical gain dial on the front so you control it via software - elgato.sjv.io/Neowl & if you do pick anything up from the elgato store, throw in my code ZZ-NIGHTOWL and you'll get 5% off
Thank you so much!!! 👏 I've only started taking my channel a bit more seriously the last year or so, (started at about 100 subs) So we're growing, just slowly 🔥 Appreciate the kind words though, means a lot!
Honestly it's up to you! If you know how to use one then an expander is a great replacement for a noise gate, You don't need both I just normally suggest a noise gate to beginners as it's easier to explain and also FULLY cuts out audio which helps when people aren't in ideal audio situations. (Pets, cars, noisey neighbours etc) But an expander often sounds smoother and more natural if you can set it up correctly & don't have too much BG noise around you
Can we not use wave link software with out their products? I was following you video, but after downloading it and setup finished, I opened it and it's not in my obs anywhere under the plug drop menu. So I'm super confused. It is still asking for me to connect a product when I open the wave link desktop tab. Please help. thanks
can someone help me with the fifine a6t i struggle alot with learning to follow these videos and finding it hard to make the a6t sound good and stuff like that
0:38 whats the name of this cool boom arm :o edit: another question! i also have the wave 3. did you figure out how to filter out the keyboad typing noises while speaking? im using the wave link software :)
Oh! The boom arm is the elgato Low profile arm! elgato.sjv.io/Owl-WhiteLP & Filtering out loud keyboard sounds is hard..🙃 Using audio supression can help a bit but the easiest way is get the mic as close to you as possible and turn the gain down so the background noise seems quieter than your voice... That's why it's always better to have quieter switches for streaming 😅
@@ajsarsfield thankyou for the tip! :) yeaah well i got the romer g- switches, they are not particularly quiet lol . but might try to lube them at some point!
the noise gate for mine doesn't work for some reason. It doesn't cut off at all. You can still hear everything even when I don't talk. What do I do? (Nvm. I found out. Mine is strangely odd but I figured it out)
@@ajsarsfield Yes! But the um Nova thing is not working with my Mic on OBS. I applied it as a filter for Audio Input Capture. Did you use it as a filter?
@MindOfAutumn Yes!! TDR Nova is a also a VST filter 🔥 (Probably could have explained that better) So you should be adding that as a filter in your microphone settings with all the other filters I mentioned. if you did somehow make it work as an audio input you'd probably end up with a weird echo cause your mic would be being captured twice
90% of them yes... SLABS has all of the same audio filters built in Except I think its missing the "3 band EQ" so you HAVE to install the VST to do that part Other than that, works great though 🔥
Hey love you content I have HP laptop 💻 with the following spec 8g RAM 256 ssd I5 8th gen 1089p resolution Help me make my content perfect with OBS and how to be more professional thank you
Every single time I find one of these types of videos to make my microphone sound better. The settings and filters help a ton, but they NEVER bring the microphone quality to what this dude sounds like in the video. There's still always a noise that doesn't sound right and I do not for my life know what I'm missing - and I'm using the Elgato Wave 3, which appears to be what Nightow1 is using too. Do I not have enough foam panels in my room? Is the order of my filters wrong? Is it as simple as the mic is too far away? (I have nothing to be able to get the mic as close to my mouth as in the video, it's just sitting on my desk about a foot away) It's driving me crazy how every youtuber seems to sound impeccable with the same filters, but when I put them in either verbatim or with minor tweaks according to my setup, it never works.
Getting the mic close to your mouth makes a HUGE difference in sound quality... If its far away from your mouth you're going to have to increase the gain to be loud enough to hear you BUT that's also going to increase the sound of EVERYTHING else in your room Fans,Reverb, keyboard etc.. The closer to your mouth the cleaner & weirdly more bassy your voice will sound Do a quick test, Hold it near your mouth while talking, turn the gain down a bit and listen to how much better it sounds! I'd highly recommend pickup up a Mic stand/arm if possible. You don't need the elgato specific ones but you could pick up a cheap one on amazon for about $20 Something like this?, amzn.to/4deeLIb Won't be perfect but it'll really help until you can upgrade to a nicer/better one
@@ajsarsfield I really appreciate that input! The bassy sound os what I've noticed is specifically lacking and thats why I was getting so frustrated when all the settings dont help it. Audio has been one of the most frustrating things to figure out so far in my youtube journey, so you have no idea how much I appreciate the feedback! Thank you brother
@@ajsarsfield I'm running into new problems now, and I don't know if it's something that can be solved with TDR Nova. But first I should add that when I try installing Nova, it does not show up in my VST2 plugins when I try to add that filter so I don't know what's going on there. I want to use my voice range as much as I can for the type of content I want to make, but I find when I go for higher pitches in my voice, the mic audio cuts it out almost entirely. I'm also running into an issue where I'll need to catch my breath and do a quick inhale, and the mic pics up that inhale and it sounds terrible. Moving my head away from the mic wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't using a webcam to record myself along with it too. These are the primary issues I'm having so far since I got an arm stand for my wave 3. Update: The higher pitch problem may have been solved after rewatching this and updating my equalizer settings - but I'm gonna keep an eye on it.
no one is talking about how to delete keyboard sound while talking. when ever i talk while playing games, keyboard sound goes in. i want to turn that off
3 ways... 4 technically 1 microphone type- . A dynamic mic will help avoid background sound like keyboards more than a condenser mic 2 microphone position - Get it as close to your mouth as you comfortably can Then turn the gain down, itll make BG sounds less noticable and position the keyboard behind the microphone not below or infront of it 3 noise supression- Using noise supression filters will help filter out any keyboard clicks left once you do the first 2 things.. However all of this advice can only do so much if you've got a loud mechanical keyboard so buying a quieter board will help alot
@ajsarsfield I've done that all and still happens. I even used Nvidia thing and still goes in. Getting close to mic does no help because if you talk and type keyboard at the same time, keyboard sound goes in
Odd - When I followed everything you did it basically killed my mic. Odd What a bummer - Just tested and all goo again after I deleted everything you mentioned to do That sucks
