I just came here to comment about your organization boxes. I saw another video of someone who did an open source grid box system but I didn’t know how I felt about it. After comparing the widths I decided to buy your stackable assortment STL file bundle. The $15 for all the files is super low for how much I like them. I after buying your files, I sliced both yours and the free open source version from the other RU-vidr & here’s what I like about yours: 1) They are a lot bigger 2)They use less filament while still being plenty strong 3) They are faster to print because it’s all walls & no infill. The other RU-vidr did a great job creating a similar system as you. Yours just seems to fit my needs better, & I like your build style more lol.

@@wh0tubeget best sealer.. make it 2 layers and reapply 1-2 layers of sealer every year. You should be good… But get sealer/ciment friendly chemicals when you clean your shower.

Seems expensive (layers) and time consuming (additional layers with sanding). Much easier and more efficient options available like Sheetrock, cement board and tile where needed, paint (which is my current Reno im tackling). So far my material cost and everything for a complete shower and walls is $1k USD, prebuilt cheaper options also available. I believe I could do the entire bathroom (toilet, sink, , walls, cabinets, shower, etc.) for under $2k USD with nice things.

Ahhh that brings back memories when I decided to finish the entire bathroom with Beal Mortex (pretty similar to micro cement) because I wasn't looking forward to do tiles. Butttt wasn't ready for the hours and hours of sanding for the mortex and learning as you go, haha. But in the end it's totally worth it. Also later in the cleaning department, just wash it down with some water. For the Beal they have a special wax you apply once a year so nothing sticks to it, maybe this also exists for the Microcement?. And keep up the great work Alex!

Concerning the colour of the walls: Did you only use the construction spotlights or did you test the appearence with a final light setup? By my experience it's not only the colour of the surface. It's also the colour of the light, which makes the mood. Anyways. Nice work so far. 👍

Pro tip, with all the lights / Buy replacements now. I just finished a complete bathroom overhaul, and the lights I used are rated for 6 to 8 years of life depending on daily use. In that time specialty products like your lights might not be available. So why not push out that "I have to find a compatible replacement" moment out to 12 to 16 years from now. ( drive the LED's less hard with lower voltages / amperages ( BigClive has excelent explenations ) and they last longer to )

Many a plasterer has told me that the secret to a smooth coat is to apply each layer, have a cup of tea and wait to almost dry, go over the surface with a wet clean tool and then leave to dry. the repeat the process for the next layer. The reason for the cup of tea is that the time it takes to make an drink the tea is about the correct amount of drying time between resmoothing with a clean wet tool.
@achappel

Tea it is! Thanks for the tip :)

Why install plywood after waterproofing, wouldn't it be better to use cement board for the light channel? That way there's no risk of delamination with humidity down the line.

For a flat surface, I would prefer the lower time investment of gyprock and several coats of paint and paint effects. I wonder what the Texture capabilities of microcement are? I am recalling some astonishing YT videos of Malaysian(?) Artisans creating some amazing bas-reliefs on walls with mortar.

you can pretty much do 2 layers in one day, so corse and medium on the first day, 2 layers of micro cement on day 2, and then the 2 clear coat layers on the 3rd. (best case) I spent way more time than that and had way more layers:P
