I appreciate you going through the deep dive. Don't pay attention to anyone commenting on the quality of your work. You seem pretty sharp. I'm sure you see all your mistakes and maybe have ideas for how you would do it differently next time. You sharing your process was generous and may have helped me and many others from our own mistakes. Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for the video. I'm trying to microcement over my fireplace on top of the existing tiles. I'm wondering why you use tile adhesive to fill the gaps rather than tile filler or grout. Could you help me understand?
@DIYwithGabriel
@DIYwithGabriel 12 дней назад
Two things 1. Tile adhessive was recommended by the distributor. 2. Tile adhessive creates a strong bond between tile and surface. In addition: Will provide a good solid base for the primer and base cement.

Tile paste first between the tile gaps to make the surface flat and then primer before applying 1st coat of base cement.

Hey Gabriel, thank you so much for this video. I have a genuine question. I plan to have a floating vanity counter top in the kitchen and thus most of it uses an L brackets to hold the top. My question is, 1. Should I microcement the surface first, then drill through the cement using the recommended drill bit(Glass bit) and then place the L brackets on to of the microcement layer? If so, would this method crack the microcement? 2. Should I drill through the tiles first and then place the L brackets in on top of the tiles? .then continue with the microcement journey? If so, would this crack the tile? It's a super long question and I know you arent a professional. But just wants your friendly opinion and or advice.
@DIYwithGabriel
@DIYwithGabriel Год назад
Wow! That's an exciting project. Update me later 🙂 My friendly opinion since I'm not a professional Question 1. Should I drill through the tiles first and then place the L brackets on top of the tiles? .then continue with the microcement journey? If so, would this crack the tile? Answer - You can do one or the other. The important thing is to use the correct equipment (glass drill/tile drill bit). If you apply the correct steps, I think it won't crack as long as the material under is stable and secure. Question 2. Should I drill through the tiles first and then place the L brackets in on top of the tiles? .then continue with the microcement journey? If so, would this crack the tile? Answer - You can do what fits your style. My friendly opinion is it won't crack the tile as long as the base of the tile is strong and secure. If the tiles under were placed correctly and have a good base under. Then the chance of breaking will be low. Good luck and God bless

Yes, apply waterproof after applying microcement. If you don’t have tiles around the drain or your waterproof is damaged, then you need to apply waterproof before application.
@user-gj6qk9lu1x
@user-gj6qk9lu1x 7 месяцев назад
do you need to raise the drain to make way for the new elevation of the floor? i’m assuming the micro cement ends up being like 1/8”-1/4” thick on the shower floor, no?
@DIYwithGabriel
@DIYwithGabriel 7 месяцев назад
No, I just laid up the new drain over the old drain and then I applied the base cement as thick as the new drain. When you are on the last application of microcement try to put some amount over the new drain so that the water will flow naturally. You can try to watch my video around that part to see what I mean. If you have more questions, just ask me again later.
