What happens when the rebar and mesh rust?
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 5 месяцев назад
The question should be how do I stop my Cement from being porous so that I don’t get water on my rebar mesh to stop it from rusting. If the metal rust it can do one of two things it can mineralize/volumize and split apart, the rock and the case of the rebar.. with regards to the expanded metal it just rusted out to where there’s nothing left. This is the main reason I like using textile reinforcement over steel reinforcement. I only produced this video with more traditional type of materials and processes because so many people love using the rebar and lath method. Thanks for watching my video.

@@fauxrock I guess you could add some sort of xypex crystalline waterproofer but then would probably still rust from humidity from the ground so yeah I agree, the fibre is the way forward

Getting heavy
@fauxrock
@fauxrock Месяц назад
You know, I do make a lot lighter mixes than this process and or formulation I used in the video. This was just a video to articulate rebar and techniques.

I’ve actually designed blinds before using our tree panel molds and also I did a rock version of it as well. Both were segmented for easy transport and easy to assemble and very durable lightweight. I did this about 10 years ago, but the project never came into fruition. It’s always been something I wanted to mass produce, as I believe there would be a huge potential. Thanks for watching my video.

Suggestion: FILL THE HOLLOW CORE with paper and it will support the wet cement mix. The expanded metal lath is all that's needed and is easily shaped to your liking. After it dries, the paper will easily pull out.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you watching my video. A lot of people suggest alternative measures and that’s great each one of us bring something to the table and usually we keep what’s good for us and we throw away that we don’t care for.

I came to this video because I was thinking it would be cool to build cement dinosaurs for my garden and for my children to play (kind like super scaled down cabazon) and wanted to see how to make the initial frame. I imagine you could use this fake rock method to make big fake dinosaur eggs but it doesn’t seem sturdy enough for a climbable structure, any suggestions/videos on building something that can support weight?

Thanks for sharing all this, its been really helpfull. I was wondering, I'd like to make fake rocks for in my fish pond. Now I'm worried that the cement will eventually release chemicals into the water and that it will be harmful to my fish. Does the hydroseal ensure that the cement becomes completely inert, so I can use them in my pond without any issues?

I have been successfully building all kinds of environments/habitat for fish… obviously there are process/practices to safeguarding fish. As is the case with any endeavor, you have to do a little homework, and obtain understandings for optimum success. Thanks for watching.

Tony, thanks for all the positive feedback. I appreciate you watching my video. I try never to use steel reinforcements as they will rust out. The textile reinforcement both fiber, and the mesh I use will last forever.

Looks great but I was wondering what can I do to make a rock to display a jeep flexing on it ?
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 9 месяцев назад
I’ve done that a number of times already over the years. Like anything in building you can make a structure hold a certain amount of weight without an issue again building the same way. I just built this rock but obviously there’d be a little more reinforcement and it might be a little thicker. Thanks for watching my video.

@@fauxrock have you ever tested them in a wind tunnel? How do they handle at 120 to 140 mph? Seriously I saw that kind of wind for over 3 hours in hurricane Ian. We still have tilted and one sided trees and poles. How much does a manufactured rock cost? I know real landscape rocks cost a fortune. I figure I can haul close to $1000 worth just working one hour a day from the prices I was looking at. (Local hardware landscaping company) I'm not sure which is more work hauling rock or building one. If it's a good enough rock maybe mother nature and the hurricanes will not even notice and blow right past it.. The wind tunnel and an good aerodynamic design it what you need. Or just fill them with water..

No worries it’s all good… cement can degrade over time, if not properly applied and sealed

Also do you have suggestions for attaching these to the ground so they don't blow away or is there weight sufficient?
@fauxrock
@fauxrock Год назад
The way to the Rock should be enough to keep it from blowing away, but most always whenever I install rock in the landscape area I dig it in about an inch or two below the soil or Mulch or grass whatever it sitting in so that when can’t get up underneath it

What does the hydrocele for .
@fauxrock

Hydro sealer is a cement mixture we utilize to create a seal coat prior to stain the rock. We then apply a clear 100% acrylic sealer as the final seal coat protection.
