Macrame cord and fish hair are nylon fibers that are basically the same material. Years ago fly tiers figured out how to change the format and get a large supply of inexpensive tying material from unusable scraps left over from macrame projects. I will teach you this simple trick and have you tying baitfish patterns with all of the material you will every need for very little cost. Don't buy EP Fibers or Fishhair again! Below is an easy link to the material used in this video.

Thanks Chris. Great tip. I’ve done a similar thing With acrylic yarn, but you don’t get the same fibre length as you do with the macramé yarn. Thanks for sharing the great tip

Yeah me too the yarn makes nice soft 2 inch straight fibres and a nice dubbing as a sort of bye product 😆

Just got a fly tying kit for Christmas, and I'm on the hunt for affordable materials. I want to make mostly bait fish patterns, like sunfish, minnows, and even saltwater bait like mullet, peanut bunker, or spearing.

Craft stores are a good place to look since you have an idea about what you want to tie. Make sure to get some flat mylar cycles before they go out of stock at Christmas. Also braided tubing is in stores now but will go away soon. Small diameters like 1/4'' in pearl, gold, and silver will all come in handy for baitfish patterns. Best of luck!

Could you do a demo on how you use this stuff? There are so many different fibers being used in so many different ways that it's confusing on what goes with when and how it's tied......

Is this to make dubbing with? I'm fairly new to all this. Thanks

Will this type of yarn stretch because I used normal yarn and when I brushed it, it started to thin out and tiny strands of yarn collected on my metal brush
@chrismihulka-nwfishingstuf3852
@chrismihulka-nwfishingstuf3852 4 года назад
It doesn't stretch. Since it is a man made product it has long fibers, unlike cotton or wool type yarns that are spun from short fibers.

So I have a idea I can use this for Clouser tying, does it work well for that streamer type or is it limited in replacing buck hair for tying?
@axe7980
@axe7980 4 года назад
Synthetic Fibre won't build the same bulk or have the rigidity for a sparse pattern like a Clouser.

Antron is a trade name for fine denier and soft nylon. Pretty much the same stuff.

I been doing the same thing but with knitting yarn and a cat brush.This looks a little easier though.

This is a man-made fiber that is continuous, unlike yarns that are spun from short fibers.

Seeing a lot of "natural cotton" Macrame cord products, and I'm assuming this isn't what I'm looking for? Are there artificial fiber Macrame cord products? Thx u
@chrismihulka-nwfishingstuf3852
Most macramé cords like Bonnie Braid are nylon. There are now more "Natural" products on the market for the green age, buy they will not hold up on flies. Nylon is a must have.
