You see! That wing is from that paraglider pilot I mentioned. I had the same, another color. My current wing "can't" do this. This was his last training day, brand new wing. High perf is nice for XC, fun too but not something you do every day unless you got time and cash!

@@delta_yeah it makes sense with my basic understanding of airfoils. The fact that it’s cheaper doesn’t hurt either 😉

Some of the most fun I've had with a glider! Unfortunately not very common to get this wind around here, besides this video I only had two other days. Managed some longer flights up to 20mins then! Usually strong winds blow parallel to the beach here.

This kind of flight is not safer at all, does require excellent control. Being this close to the ground means little time to react specially if you turn slightly downwind, and narrow room for error. This being said, if you have a bigger wing you can do it with much less wind, and depending on the shape of the dunes and size of the beach before you reach the water, it can then be very safe and even beginner friendly. Check Erica Klein videos, that is the safe version of beach flying.

If something goes wroung and u drop from that height the chance of serious injury is low right? Whats dangerous about this type of flying?

@@delta_yeah OK, get a bigger, floaty wing with a low minimum sink rate like a Wills Wing Alpha 235, a lighter breeze and NO POWER LINES. Still, it looks tricky, like balancing on a bike when standing still. BTW I love those Erika Klein videos too!

I've heard some have, at this place 😂 quite a bit of work to untangle from bushes cactus back there! If only they had chosen a better sport....

Find an instructor first and he'll show you the way.

The one in the video is made in Brazil. There are manufacturers and dealers in other countries. But instead you should look for an instructor, and as you learn your instructor will point what equipment to buy. Gliders have different sizes and models to fit your skills and weight.

Wills Wing Alpha 235

Hey, I live in brazil, so for US prices better ask someone who lives there. New gliders are about $4500 and used can be anywhere from 1 to 3k depending on how it is. Look for an instructor, and never try learning on your own!

Depends on pilot weight and wing size. Aka 'wing loading'. A light pilot with a big wing can do this with light winds. In my case, at 65kg with a wing sized 170 square feet, an average of 35km with gusts of 45~50km works. But I also own an Alpha 210 that I use for teaching, that one can probably do this with 25~35km winds. Alpha 235 also exists, and the Wills Wing Condor 330 is the biggest available, that one floats super easy. It also depends on the dune size and steepness. This dune here is very tiny, just about my own height

Hey! It was very wind this day, 45km, some gusts above 50. This glider can stall as slow as 22km/h, and with a light touch you can keep it soaring below 30. This is a 170sqm wing and I’m 65kg, ideally a 190 would be best for dune gooning, possibly doable at 30kmh winds. Or a taller slope! At a hill site 15˜18km/h can be sustainable.

Find me one and I'll be there ;) Well, a bit more to the right the power line ends. Depends on wind direction though. If I had a bigger wing only for dunes then I'd be able to try it more often, as usually the wind blows weaker there.

What you see hanging is a tow loop, and the string to pull the zipper. Not sure thsts what you are refering to, but not a safety issue, just unused.
