I started watching leather craft videos to appease my insomnia but i love the simple yet effective way you explain the process without dragging it out to the point i feel time was wasted. Kudos and i look forward to watching you... though that sounds kind of weird...lol thanks.

When slicking the edges, one thing I've really come to like is put the slicker in a drill, and let the drill spin it while I move the leathers edge back and forth. It works a lot faster and it's a lot easier to control (in my humble and unsolicited opinion, anyway). Awesome video as always!

@SkillTree
@SkillTree 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! For this build I used 8oz veg tanned leather for the spaulders and a 4oz (I think) For the buckeled straps. The straps were pre cut at tandy so I am not positive. The inner straps that hold it all together were 2oz pieces.

I love the design idea for the strap connection! However, I have a technical question; do you (or anybody) know how well it would work to use antique on a water-based dye? Also, how do you decide with color antique to use?
@SkillTree
@SkillTree 2 года назад
I don't think the water based dye will make too much of a difference. If you don't want a lot of color change and just want the detail to darken, hit your work with a sealer first, like Roslin. That should protect it. As for the color of antique, you can usually find some in the same family as the dye you used (tan, browns, mahogany, etc..) if you want a more subtle effect, match the shade closely. The detail will still darken but in a more natural "aged" way. If you want it to be super stark contrast, go with a lighter shade. I usually have a piece of scrap I tool and dye along with the main pieces so I can try different colors out and see what I like. Good luck!
