This is awesome advice. Haters are saying if it's good enough for somebody else then it's good enough for you to sell on your own-- but nobody knows you. And the fact is, if you want to make a living pursuing music, you HAVE to be doing this kind of stuff. This doesn't mean completely stop doing your own thing at all, it's just an additional revenue stream that will enable you to continue doing the other stuff you love.

A lot of people are saying "if your tracks are good enough for people to buy them, take credit for making them" if you have an experimental trap producer or whatever such as Flume, he is EXPECTED to release HIS type of music. I guarantee you heaps of artists out there can make pop genre songs easily compared to their experimental stuff. its EASY and quick money for them? Imagine if flume released a 128bpm big room banger.. everyone would hate on him so much, but he could just SELL the 128bpm trash to an artist who actually wants that since it fits his style, and flume can still make money (flume is just an example)

tip for people considering being a gp: try to sell to a local dj and a local label. because you can actually go see those people you'll build a stronger relationship with them -> more stable income. also you'll have your first contacts if you want to start out yourself
@lionsatmidnight

I find this useful as a musician/producer myself. I write every idea that comes to mind. Some I use for my actual music and others, I don’t feel are where my music is going. I write whatever I hear in my head. So that being said, it would be nice to make some kind of income off the tracks I don’t want to use. Idk if “ghost writing” is how I want to go about it but essentially I don’t mind outright selling some of the songs.

I'm interested in hearing more about the music business from you. A video years ago I thought you said you have your own label. How is that? Are you the sole proprietor? Is it incorporated? Do the artists you sign keep all the rights? Do you do 360 deals? I personally would only probably sign to a label if the rights were leased to the label in a non exclusive manner, and only if they could distribute cheaper than I could myself, and also only if their marketing/advertisement was very capable of increasing my audience.

Thanks for the video multiplier, but i'm wondering about the process of making money/royalties outta ghost producing i mean the contract and deals part even with labels this is the intricate subject where it gets mysty for me it's really confusing , i mean when you approach a dj or a producer of a show (assuming he/she accepts one of your tracks) ....etc what kinda deal/contract you've got to do ? and what if the manager/the producer propose a certain modification on the track for example is it ok to accept that?....thx again for all the instructive videos !

Nothing wrong with ghost production in a collaborative way (you can learn heaps from people who get the the direct feedback out thousands of people) or selling tracks where your heart is not too connected to (just do not sell your most precious babies - you might regret it). It might be a great way in today's ocean of often great music that never swims to the top, to make yourself a name in the business from where you can later take off with your own tracks (and maintain a solid income as long you do not manage to do so).

Make lots and lots of COMMERCIALLY-VIABLE tunes or songs, tracks if you will. Lots and lots of COMMERCIALLY-VIABLE songs. Two important words there, lots and COMMERCIALLY-VIABLE. Lots i'll circle back to, but COMMERCIALLY-VIABLE, or just COMMERCIALLY. Two words there, mash it together, COMMERCIALLY-VIABLE, the little hyphen absolutely fine. hey so i did some research on laptops for producing and seriously i would love to get a macbook for music producing but i feel like an idiot for buying a 3000 laptop when i could get a even better computer for 2000
@todroyas692
@todroyas692 7 лет назад
You could get a computer with higher specs for 2000. But that isn't the same as better. It all depends on your opinions on Windows and MacOS. If you want a good computer but don't want to spend too much money, then you get a PC. But, if you value the user experience and design and the optimisation of the software and the hardware, then you should get a Mac. Personally, MacOS and Apple's hardware justifies the price for me so I use a MacBook Pro with Logic Pro X but if you want to spend less money, Windows PCs are perfectly viable choices.

@todroyas692
@todroyas692 7 лет назад
Andrew Jack The problem with that is that it is a complicated process and at the end of it, the software is in no way optimised for the hardware so there will obviously be bugs.
@IMKLASH
@IMKLASH 7 лет назад
Build your own PC for half the price and with way better specs. With any Apple product, you're paying a premium for the logo/brand - not to say Macbook pro's aren't good but they're overpriced for what they are.
@todroyas692

Gahhh!!! This reminds me of that chicken & the egg of first getting a job: I have no experience but need a job doing X. You can't do X until you have the experience. Sounds about the same for ghost producing: You have to produce material on par with the best in the world, then the fool DJs might have their agent listen & buy a few tracks...without your name involved. Slim shady?

Right, here’s the deal… I am a beat maker / producer. I play guitar, bass, slice up beats on my MPC… i did have a MIDI keyboard but I lost it *dont as how* but I’ll never charge … so if anyone wants a beat or instrumental, let me know and i’ll make you one. I want to get recognised in the music industry, but i’ll never accept a pay cheque…..only thing i’ll take is equipment to help further my productions… Tell me a genre, tell me a BPM, give me criteria etc and I’ll make you a beat for FREE ! ! ! ! I AM GONNNA CHANGE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY….make it so music is FREE ! !

the fact is that the music business is inundated with home studio musicians/producers and an ocean of music in all genres. half are talented, half are crap. the same 10 composers score every big $ film, and if you aren't a 20 year old triple-threat then your chances of actually making money are nil. you'd be more likely to get hit by lightning, if you really want a paying gig, go busking near centers of music industry folk. you're more likely to get accidentally discovered than forcing your way on a connected person. stay in school, treat music as a hobby, submit remixes on Indaba, it's solid publicity, and submit to licensing oppy's, but don't pay ANYONE to listen to your music, everyone that makes you pay is living off your desperation, I won't mention names but...

In any case, I'm also pretty sure Multiplier is just a weird dude like that, not to mention the fact that im like 99% sure he makes like 200 USD a month or less off videos. if you want to earn money with music, ghost production is bad way to go. I started as ghost to to produce in 2015 and I lost 3 years doing stupid tracks for little money. I earned some cash, but this business model is not worth of my time. In most cases I earned from 500 to 2k euros per track, but it is really hard to find client who pays.

One great product would stop me from investing in anything to do with audio. That word is 'Pono'. as in Neil Young's replacement of poor sounding MP3 files and players being sold primarily by Apple iTunes for their piece of crap iPod. When iTunes sells you a song today in August, 2020, it is still via the extremely lossy, compressed beyond belief MP3 files. It makes little sense today as the MP3 was understandable when memory cost the end user a lot of money. Today, for iTunes not selling their music in at least an AIFF file, which holds over ten times the information of an MP3 file is confusing. Neil made his Pono player so it could download music off of master tapes the record company owns. When you bought a song or CD and downloaded it from his Pono site, you owned an exact copy of what was laid down in the studio that day, after engineering and production of course. For a while he had a small inventory of the artist's master recording. Musicians and consumers were excited enough that they invested 7.5 million in Pono's Kickstarter campaign. At that time, crowd funding was fairly new. Yet, 7.5 million raised was Kickstarter's second highest investment at the time. For investing $300, I got a special edition chrome Pono signed in the chrome by CSN. The sound was amazing. Ayre, a Colorado based high end audio company managed to engineer a DAC into the player. All looked good until the corrupt music moguls had changed their minds about selling essentially the master copies to the consumer. They had contracts to do so with Neil. They came up with the only solution. Tom Petty's 'Full Moon Fever' just had a price raise..., to $58 wholesale to Pono. Neil would have to charge over $90 an album download to break even. Neil was not interested in ripping off the general public, even if they wanted to pay a C note for a CD download. Neil shut it down. What has replaced everything is companies like Tidal who sell streaming services. Far worse quality than an MP3 file, but hey, if the consumer enjoys listening to crap sound, why should I care? All I can say is, if you pay money to listen to streaming audio, you don't know what you can't know. These are the same people who buy Beats headphones. What I'm getting at is, if you have never heard well recorded music, when you listen to Tidal, you must think that what you are listening to is what it should sound like. Of course if you listen to rap, it is so poorly recorded, 98% of the time, that horrible quality of sound is not going to get better with a nice pair of headphones - or a 100 grand home sound system. Rap equals, crap in, crap out. Thank goodness vinyl has come back! The lesson here is Ghost Producing, or anything audio is a good thing to stay away from as far as an investment goes.. The music company ownership has always been ran by less than ethical people.

Step 1.: Kill your creativity and follow the main stream. I'm not a good producer and will never get money out of my tracks but I don't care because I make it for fun. But what I see in this coo-producing/ghost producing scene is mostly people following a DJ like a leader who never created any track by themself. And the reason they can do it is because they have a lot of money and mostly their name is like a brand.

It's all about being realistic. You're more likely to earn money doing commercially viable stuff, and if you want to make money from it you should follow that. You can produce other stuff as a hobby

i was very close from reporting this video as hateful or abusive content cause it felt like you were just yelling at me and not making any sense, saying the same words over and over again doesn't mean you know what your talking about.

Hey my friend also makes videos! His channel name is "jack thomas". (Shamless promoting for my friend lol). Hes a great singer and has really funny content. It's really hard making it on RU-vid, especially as a small youtuber. If you ever had a second and could check out his channel and subscribe if you like it, im sure hed also check yours out as well. Hope your day is going well!
