Been a small scale seed seller for the past 8 years, it is a horribly low paying business but a labor of love. selling live plants is much more lucrative.

I agree 1000%. Small-scale seed produced by those who do the work to actually maintain and improve vegetable varieties is completely under-valued.

Hello Deigo, Thank you for sharing this with us. I have been growing and selling incredibly productive heirloom carosello cucumber seed varieties, most of which are much older and tastier than a lot of other cucumber varieties. My little Cucumber Shop borders on philanthropy, so the payoff is not financial as in the satisfaction of helping others grow incredible cucumber varieties. I just wanted to share that there are some little seed shops out there that are doing much of the hard work of finding, maintaining and offering unique open-pollinated vegetable varieties.

Very interesting! I think I may add seed saving and selling to my list of future enterprises. It would be wonderful to select for varieties that do well in my particular climate with my pest load, whilst also making some money.

Any advice on which printer to use to print on envelopes for seed packets? Also do you use normal A4 paper and fold it into an envelope or use ready made envelope and print on it?

Interesting you suggest germ tests. Germ tests are required where I am at. $25 per type. 1000 of each type of seed necessary for the test. So the thought of it being optional in the industry to be honest blows my mind.

I have a ‘dumb guy question’ I can’t get an answer for, can I save seed from more than one vegetable at a time from a vegetable garden on less than an acre or would they cross pollenate/not be viable?

If they were planted next to vegetables of the same species, then there’s a likelihood that their seed will have cross pollinated and bare traits of another. You can still grow the plant from the seed; however, it will not be true to that original type. You might have a bell pepper with the heat of a jalapeño for example.

You can bag the blooms and pollinate them by hand and you would not have to worry about crossing something don't want.

The math isn't lining up for me on this video. The calculation for the last "120g/bedft" is incorrect. More importantly $70k to $1300K -- yet 15000 packets. 15000 packets * $3 (slide before) = 45,000?

Here in the United States I can find really cheap seed at the dollar store. More often than not, I am grateful if it produces anything like what is pictured or described. The worth of high-quality seed is actually extremely under-priced. If I want high-quality higly productive open-pollinated seed, it will cost more because there has been more work put into it. I make significantly less than minimum wage growing high-quality seed for my seed business and, other than the big companies that can grow their seed overseas with only the price in mind - I doubt you will find many seed companies that can grow their own seed and pay their workers well.
