I absolutely loved this! I have been breastfeeding for 10months now and haven't had many problems. Definitely suggesting this to every mumma i can! My biggest struggle was when bub was 2months old i stressed myself out and didn't have much milk and stressed myself dry. So glad you have made this so other women don't worry like I did!

10 month is AWESOME mommy! ❤️. How long do you feel like you want to breastfeed your baby? That 2 month point is a big one. lots of moms think that their supply has dropped then. Your milk supply regulates to just what baby needs and baby gets fussy then because of that big growth spurt. Thanks for sharing my video and thanks for helping other mommies! ❤️

Always talk to your doctor but just in my opinion, I would wait until breastfeeding is well established. I wouldn’t be extreme. Maybe 16/8 instead of a 24 or more hour fast. Stay aware of your body. If you feel bad grab some protein. We are told to take in around 500 “extra” calories while breastfeeding. It doesn’t take much food to equal 500 calories and if your died is already more than recommended by your doctor, you should be 👍 great. I’m actually thinking about doing a video on weight loss while breastfeeding.🥰

My baby had a tongue tie (corrected) and I have flat nipples. We were using a nipple shield until my cat destroyed it. We’ve been 2 months now without a shield but she still doesn’t latch the best and it causes so much pain. I can only describe it as her drinking through a straw, but using just the tip. I have followed the advice of my consultant, nose to nipple and when mouth is wide, put her onto the breast but then she just comes right back off again. I’ve had so much pain that when she does latch, I just cry.
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc Месяц назад
Oh no! I’m so sorry! You could see your doctor again to be sure that the type of tongue tie that was corrected was the only tie. There are anterior and posterior ties. Do you happen to have a forceful letdown/over supply? Is baby held totally on their side? One arm should be down towards the floor and the other arm towards the ceiling so that baby is giving your breast a big hug. Head should be back so their chin is pressed into your breast and nose, not touching. If you haven’t already, there’s some other positions that may help. Sidelining, koala hold, and a laid-back hold.

My baby is about to be 2 months but it's been a struggle since day one with my milk supply. I tried pumping right after the baby ate. I would get like 30 ml and the baby would wake up. Want to latch on which at that time my boobs would hurt even more. I would still latch him on feed him what I pumped but that feeling of fullness would not come back. At night he would eat for a few minutes and fall asleep and he will keep waking up. Maybe every 30 minutes wanting to eat but when I gave him formula he would sleep for those 2 to 3 hours until the next feeding
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 4 месяца назад
@binanyagami9595 I know this will sound crazy but that’s all very normal. Did you have a supply of milk in the first days/weeks? 1st off, we want to be sure the baby is getting enough. We know that by counting wet diapers. As long as baby has six or more wet diapers every 24 hours you know they’re getting enough. After about six weeks of breast-feeding -it’s normal to get only drops of breastmilk after nursing session. -It’s also normal for your breast to feel completely flat and empty breastmilk is actually made while you are pumping or nursing. Breastmilk isn’t stored in your breast. -it’s normal for a baby to eat nonstop in the afternoon and evening. Our milk supply is lower during this time of day, but it is higher and fat. This is the way that it’s supposed to be. Our evening breastmilk is like dessert at the end of the day for baby. That extra amount of fat helps baby sleep a little bit longer through the night, but breast-fed babies still do not sleep as long as formula Fed babies. This is because breastmilk digests quickly and completely. Sits in babies tummy, and takes longer to digest. -it’s normal for baby to be fussy in the evening. They are usually overstimulated or overly tired. if baby is cluster feeding, baby will be super fussy and literally be on the breast all evening. Cluster feeding does not mean that baby is not getting enough or that they need more, it’s just that they are uncomfortable. It hurts to grow so quickly. -when a breast-fed baby is given a bottle, they suck like they would at the breast, and the milk just pours into them. They end up, taking in way more than they would’ve if you were feeding at the breast. If we eat a large meal we feel full and sleepy also. Do you feel like he was having lots of wet diapers before this time? Does it seem like the fussy time or time that you need to give a bottle is in the afternoon or evening? We definitely want to be sure that baby is getting all that he needs. If you are feeling stressed out and just don’t feel like baby is getting enough, it’s totally OK to give baby formula. When you give formula, it will start to decrease supply and you can work to increase it. You’ll need to pump as often as baby eats. It’s important to add breast massage before each pumping session. This would be at least 10 minutes of massaging your breast before starting to pump. Applying heat can help with your letdown to happen sooner. It’s important to be consistent with your pumping. *The very best way to increase your supply is by having baby at the breast. The stimulation of baby at the breast is so much better than having a pump on the breast. When baby is getting a bottle of formula, you can nurse baby on both breasts, then give a small amount of the formula, then nurse, baby on both breast again then give the rest of the formula. After consistently, pumping, and having baby on the breast more. It will take 3 to 5 days to start to see a small increase. From that point it will slowly increase every few days. I’ll attach a video for you here. ❤️

Mary, I have a 6 month old and I think my milk supply has dropped because I no longer can pump anything more than 5 oz per pump. I used to have an over supply and now my breasts have decreased in size as well. My baby does have more than 6 wet diapers and she’s alert so I guess I really shouldn’t worry much. Your videos are really helpful
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 2 года назад
5 ounces in place of a feeding is an awesome amount. 5 ounce pumped between feedings for extra milk is still an oversupply. So you’re doing great either way! Are you away from baby very long and on a regular basis? It’s actually a good thing to feel flat and empty. When you feel full that’s actually engorgement. Many moms start to feel flat an empty by around two or three months. Moms with a forceful letdown/over supply tend to take longer to feel that way if ever. Having an over supply can have many negative effects and it usually needs to be kept under control. When it’s not under control mom tends to get clogged ducts and mastitis. Baby tends to have tummy problems and either slow or very high weight gain and other issues. Are you seeing any problems like that? When you have a forceful letdown/oversupply you will have this condition with every baby but some babies will handle it better than others. I have a three part video series on the condition. It’s important to learn all about it because it makes Breastfeeding totally different

I’ll link a video here for you that will help with supply while pumping to get your supply back. It’s important to understand that your body will make more milk at the time of day that you are pumping. So your body will be increasing supply at night. That might get difficult to keep up with if you’re limiting your sleep. Maybe you are planning on pumping just before you go to bed and when you wake up? Theres nothing wrong with giving baby part breastmilk and part formula. Even a small amount of breastmilk is beneficial and lasts their entire lives🥰 It’s definitely ok to be an exclusive pumper but it can be a lot of work. If you’d like to discuss the problems that you had and try to latch again, let me know. @@marycahillclc Thank you so much! Great to hear from you. I see what you’re saying. I can definitely pump in the mornings and before bed. My baby was able to latch in the beginning, but once she’s had a bottle, she won’t latch on for long with the breast. Two nurses at the hospital suggest nipple shields. They said mine was short so it may be harder to latch. I also can only breastfeed at certain times of the day. So in the morning, once in the afternoon, and at night. The other times I have people around so it’s easier to formula feed. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you again!

When you pump now and don’t get much, is that after a feeding or in place of a feeding? -Add some heat and massage before the pumping. -Try to relax -Make sure that your flange size is correct and that all parts are connected and in good condition. -it can be stressful to pump. Don’t watch the bottle. Even put a little sock over the bottle so you can’t see how much is going in. Wait 10 minutes before you look. Look at baby or pictures of baby.❤️

Hi mommy! It sounds like you’re on the right track! 😃 Are you giving all of your pumped milk, in the SNS at the next feeding? Do you always have the supplemental nursing system attached at every feeding? If you aren’t using the SNS, is baby nursing well at the breast? How is weight gain now? What was weight at around birth, 2/3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks? Just whatever weights you’ve gotten. 😃❤️

Thanks! ❤️ It’s important to find the cause of the pain right away. You shouldn’t have to bear the pain. Baby’s latch and position is most often the issue when breastfeeding is painful. I’ve linked you three videos to check out that should help a bit. Some things to keep in check - Baby should be tummy to tummy with you, start a feeding with baby’s nose at your nipple, baby’s head should be tilted back with their chin pressed into your breast and nose. not really touching. The videos will explain it better. Some other causes for pain can be if baby has a tongue or lip tie, or if mom has a forceful letdown/oversupply. Now, as for baby being hungry all of the time. It’s totally OK if you want to or need to add formula but it can often seem like baby isn’t getting enough when really they are. let’s talk about that… before you started formula, was baby having plenty of wet diapers? Did baby seem content in the morning and early afternoon?

@@marycahillclc The reason I say she was always hungry, she never stopped nursing on her own. I had to force her bcos of the pain. And I noticed her suckling was forceful. And when I examined my nipples, I observed that the milk wasn't coming out from a wide surface area. Just the middle area.
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 4 месяца назад
@@eugeniaejiofor6396 It can be hard to keep a newborn awake for a nursing session. It takes longer to breastfeed than to bottle feed so baby gets tired. When baby is up against mom where it’s warm and cozy it’s hard to stay awake. You may have to undress her and maybe even tickle her toes with a wet washcloth. Stopping to burp or play with baby, also helps to wake them for a feeling. If you’re nursing every 2 hours, it can be ok if baby just won’t wake up for some feedings but on the next feeding you’ll need to definitely get baby awake. 😴 Since she wasn’t having enough wet diapers, you definitely needed to start adding formula bottles.👍

3 ounces in a pumping is perfect! Breastfeeding babies take in an average of 24 ounces every 24 hours. This is from one month to six months old. @marycahillclc
@marycahillclc Месяц назад
How do you know that your supply dropped? Did she have less than 6 wet diapers that day? At around this time, baby would be having a fairly large growth spurt. During a growth spurt baby doesn’t need or want more to eat, but they are uncomfortable because it hurts to grow so quickly. This causes baby to be extremely fussy and want to nurse nonstop. Baby, may even come off the breast and cry and seem like they’re not getting enough. During a growth spurt baby will cluster feed. This usually happens in the afternoon and evening. It may be hard to calm down during this time. You may have to walk around with baby to get her to calm down. Also at around this time, your breast will start to feel flat and empty. This is very normal. They should start to feel just like they did before you were pregnant. You probably won’t become engorged very often anymore. Your breastmilk is made from your white blood cells. Getting good nutrition and enough to drink is important for your body, but it rarely affects your milk supply if you are lacking in those areas. Sometimes if Mom is ill, supply can be affected but that usually just if mom has been too sick to have baby at the breast. Do you know why you have a fever? Have you had a clogged duct that may be infected? That can actually be a factor is a supply drop. If your fever is caused by a breast infection (mastitis), that does need to be addressed right away. I’m going to link a couple of videos here in case it is a clogged duct/ mastitis. Clogged Milk Duct while Breastfeeding ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FAowvk9n5cQ.html

@marycahillclc my fever was not due to mastitis. It was viral. Baby was sleeping well until I fell sick. She would feed and seem satisfied and sleep for a good 3 hours until her next feed. And then all of a sudden she starts becoming fussy and pulling away from the breast until I offered her formula after which she seemed satisfied. Even now I have to supplement around 5 oz of formula per day. I'm also taking fenugreek capsules. 2 capsules thrice daily. Doesn't seem to be doing much tbh. There was no change in diapers but she wouldn't sleep at all...wanted to nurse nonstop. Currently started week7, what can I do to increase supply? I've started pumping half an hour or so after nursing her. Around maybe 4 times per day with a powerpump sometime at 2am. I can only get about 1 oz at a time though. What else can I do? I want her to be off formula entirely 😩

@@esjay9742 it’s very normal at this age to have a big growth spurt. During the growth spurt baby does not want or need more to eat, but they do want to be at the breast more often because it’s comforting and breastmilk has natural painkillers in it. It’s very uncomfortable to grow so quickly. During this growth spurt babies will cluster feed. cluster feeding usually happens in the afternoon and evening. Baby may want to be on the breast nonstop during this time. It can last a few days or a week. Some babies will go through this every couple of weeks and some babies just go through this occasionally. You can know that this is cluster feeding and not a low supply because it will happen in the afternoon and evening but in the morning, baby will seem satisfied. Also, baby will continue to have six or more wet diapers every day, showing you that they are getting enough. Was baby having plenty of wet diapers before you started formula? During a growth spurt, babies can be extremely fussy and sometimes almost impossible to console. You may need to spend lots of hours walking around to sooth and calm baby down during a growth spurt. When baby is given formula during this time, they will drink it down quickly and be so full that they just fall asleep. breast-feed babies are used to working to get milk out of the breast, but when they suck on a bottle, the milk pours out so much faster than from the breast. If you’re concerned that your supply is low, it’s OK to give formula but if you’re wanting to get back to exclusively breastfeeding, you’ll need to pump at around the same time. Getting just 1 ounce or less of pumped milk after feeding is very normal if you haven’t been consistently pumping in addition to nursing. What makes more breastmilk is having baby at the breast for as long and as often as possible. You can add additional pumping, but having baby at the breast, will increase your supply faster. Fenugreek can actually lower supply for many moms. You can get your supply up and return to exclusively breastfeeding. I’m attaching a video here that will help you to walk through the process of increasing supply and slowly weaning off of formula. You’re doing a great job! ❤️ Increasing Your Milk Supply and Weaning off of Formula ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S3DSN2Dwf5M.html

@marycahillclc she had around 5 wet diapers before I started with the formula. I have to supplement around 4oz of formula for her. Hoping to wean her off of it. Thanks so much for your suggestions/advice. Truly appreciate it. One more thing I've noticed is when she gets extremely fussy at the breast, I try to hand express and get nothing. That's when I assumed it was a low supply issue. How can I incorporate pumping with breastfeeding? When would be best? She also hasn't established a proper sleep/feeding routine so I'm torn between pumping or waiting for her to nurse most times.

@@esjay9742 if a diaper felt heavy, it will count as 2. If the blue line appears on a disposable diaper, that is considered 1. Some babies get themselves into a more predictable sleep pattern but some do not. I personally believe that it’s not good to put baby on an exact feeding schedule but you can encourage them to latch more during a time. This will fill them up and they usually start to follow that after a few days or weeks. I’ll link a video here on weaning off of formula. It will walk you through, slowly weaning off of the formula and increase your supply at the same time. You will let baby tell you when supply is enough and formula is not needed much. If you are trying to pump or hand express after a feeding, you may not see any milk, unless you have been doing consistently expressing at that time of day. You can start to pump after feeding to increase your supply. Though the best and fastest way to increase your supply is by having baby at the breast more often and longer. The video that I’ll link will help to do this too. If you would still like to add pumping, that’s just fine. Be sure to pump on a regular basis. You don’t have to pump all day long but when you do pump, it needs to be around the same time every single day. So if you decide to pump every day 10 or 20 minutes after a morning feeding or afternoon feeding, just keep up with that pumping time. You will probably see only drops in the beginning but after 3 to 5 days, you’ll start to see a little bit more. Then it will slowly increase from there. Just so that you don’t think your afternoon supply is low. Remember that afternoon and evening pumping will always be a small amount of milk, but that milk has a higher fat content. Be sure to add lots of breast massage before pumping. The extra stimulation from massage tells your body to make more milk. ❤️ Increasing Your Milk Supply and Weaning off of Formula ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S3DSN2Dwf5M.html

Hi mommy! Are you feeding from the breast and pumping? How many ounces were you able to pump at a session, a month ago?

What is the reason for pumping at the same time every day? I will just pump when I have extra time or if baby doesn’t empty me enough, then I’ll pump to make to make sure my breasts are good and empty

Great question! The reason for pumping at consistent times is to tell your body how much milk is needed and at what time it’s needed. Your body will start to recognize the hormone releases at those times. Then the body will help to increase the supply at that time. If you are pumping in place of a feeding (around the time that baby normally nurses), you should be able to see a good output. If you are a mom with a forceful letdown/over supply, you can usually just pump at random times. If you are less than 8 weeks postpartum, you may do just fine to pump at random times but after that point, most moms will struggle to see very much “extra” milk at random times, that are after or between nursing sessions. *Average pumping output that is in place of a feeding, is anywhere from 1 to 3 ounces. Early morning pumping may be higher (maybe 4 ounces). Evening pumping can sometimes be just 1/2 ounce. You can pump to be sure that your breasts are “empty” but if baby is nursing well that’s not necessary. Milk really isn’t stored in your breasts. It’s made while you nurse or pump. ❤️

Hi marry how much time we have to expresses the milk in day?

Everyone is a little different on the amount of time that you pump. You can pump for 5 more minutes after you stop seeing drops. The number of times to pump a day depends on whether baby is feeding from the breast. If you are exclusively pumping and baby doesn’t latch at the breast, you’ll need to pump 8 to 12 times every 24 hours. How old is your baby? Are you feeding from the breast?

Hi Mary, I can't pump at work due to job requirement. So I have to pump only when i return home. Can u advise what needs to be done in that case? Also, Do I need to practice this method every day or till Sufficient milk supply is established for babies need ?

Hi Karishma! Sometimes we just can’t pump at work. You can make up that pumping while at home but you need to keep pumping at the same time every day, even on your days off. You might pump every morning, about 10 minutes after the 1st feeding of the day, then pump about 10 minutes after your 1st feeding when you’re home in the evening. If you can’t pump at work but will be nursing baby on your days off, you may not produce well during the day. Some babies will still nurse fine but may be on the breast longer to get what they need. How old is baby? How many ounces are you able to pump?

@@marycahillclc My baby is 5 months now. I can pump currently 12 ounces. And when I am back home i nurse my baby.
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 2 года назад
@@vihubaby15 that sounds great! 12 ounces is a lot. Babies eat an average of 24 ounces every 24 hours. Baby eats about 1 to 1.5 ounces an hour when awake. So if you are pumping 12 ounces and gone from baby for 8 hours, that more than plenty. Do you have a forceful letdown?
