Chemist here. A little tip to maximize the flavor is to rather than putting on a lid put on a metal bowl filled with cold (preferably ice) water on top. This will condense any of the volatile aroma compounds so instead of filling your kitchen they stay in the syrup. We call this "refluxing" in the lab.

I've actually tried all of them and will try this one. I love trying new stuff, and all my money go into experiments, so a Russian guy telling us some recipe, of course I'll try too, and most are amazing (except the kvass one that I failed.) 🤣

This is really funny timing, I just recently found a place selling Tarhun in the US by chance, and decided to try it. It was very interesting and I wasn't a fan at first... but by the end of the bottle, it's actually pretty nice. Glad I tried something different, and odds are I never would have without Boris making me aware of it.

Can confirm, this is the recipe for homebrew tarhun. Tastes different from the store bought, but it is really nice. Too bad the straining is a real pain, would recommend anyone to try this at home. You can even add some green apple juice to the mix to give it some acidity and balance it a bit more

Edit: I think the main thing is that he doesn't tell people to like, subscribe, or turn on notifications, which is nice of him, but at the same time it does hurt the channel.
