Hook up your air conditioner to your home automation system using ESPHome firmware on a cheap Tuya-based IR blaster remote control. In this case I connect my Daikin split-system reverse cycle air conditioning system to my existing Home Assistant platform and control it using Google Assistant.

thanks for the video. I just learned how to add an external temp sensor to climate control.

Hi Thomas and thanks for your video. I made something very similar using an ESP8266-ESP12F board and a 38kHz IR emitter module I bought from amazon. I also used the ESPHome integration and then used the climate control configuration to setup the control of my very old Daikin , but even if from the logs everything seems working fine, the Daikin conditioner is not responding to the commands. I'm wondering if I may have used the wrong GPIO (I used GPIO5) or if the Daikin protocol integrated in the ESPHome may be different from the one used by my conditioner: the Daikin remote is identified as ARC423A1 and the conditioner is from 2000 (yes, 22 years old but still working). Many thanks for your help!

With the Broadcom device, did I hear correctly that it also detected the AirCon's original controller and would update the app to settings set by the remote control? Did the DIY version also do that, as in detect if the remote control was used instead of Home Assistant? This is the one thing I have disliked about IR solutions. If the remote control is used, then Home Assistant will show different settings to what the air-con unit is actually set to.

Hi Thomas, Possible to have esphome to control two different devices? For example, one IR FAN + Aircon What is the best way to double check each pin function? Looking forward to hear from you..

Hello Thomas! Very nice job! Detailed and well described! Just a q: Is it reliable solution according to 1 year experience? (I aslo testing diy node with hass, but the results are different in long term…) David

Just what I was looking for. Did you look to see if the Zigbee equivalent was any good, then no wifi needed either. Ah bother just saw the comment further down that the esp chip is no longer present.

Hi, thanks for the great video, I like to ask how you configure for the LG Dual Converter AC ?? i mean to ask about the code file

Where I've used the "daikin" identifier in the esphome configuration file, try climate_ir_lg instead: esphome.io/components/climate/ir_climate.html

Just desoldered my wb3s chip and replaced it with an esp-12e which i had hanging arround. Everything seems to be fine, but i just cant flash the damn chip. Tried with bridging gnd and gpio15 with no luck. Also ran 3.3v on the enable pin and at least i saw a blue light on the chip itself. Esphome doesnt let me download any bin files and always tries to flash it via the browser. Any help will be welcome. P.s. if there is some new esp based devices which are 100% that would work i would like to know 😂 thanks

Hi Thomas! I seem to have a newer version of the board instead of IO0 and IO2 pins i have p6 and p9. Can you please confirm what should I connect instead of IO0 described in your website?

Hi, I'm aware of a way you can flash a tuya based device over WiFi using a raspberry pi but I found it easier to just use a soldering iron.

@@thomasfriberg ok thanks for your response...I'll check it out with the wifi if not, then I'll just have to buy the components and do it your way 👍🏽

Can it be update via WIFI after custom firmware installed/flash? In case might need to update the changes :)
@thomasfriberg
@thomasfriberg 2 года назад
Yes, esphome supports over the air WiFi updates if you want to add support for another sensor on the board later for example.

WARNING: I bought this IR but inside there is not ESP module. There is a CBU. So i can't flash the IR So i think that this link is not longer correct
@thomasfriberg
@thomasfriberg 2 года назад
Yes, I just got a comment on my website also saying that a CBU MCU is now being used. Unfortunate but thanks for sharing this with possible buyers. Has anyone found other blasters that still have an ESP12F?

Hey Thomas, not sure how important it is for you but there is a section where you didn't blur out the Wifi SSID and Passwords from your secret's folder.

There is nothing smart, if you set the settings manually on your phone. Further Switchin on and off the ac by temperature , thats the ac doing by itself. What we actually need, is a arduino or esp replacement for the IR receiver box inside the a/c. Its propably talking i2c or isp whith the main board inside the unit. Why, because the origial IR handheld unit takes advantage of the smart of the user. By making him listen for the beep or pushing a button until the right mode or temperature is selected. So to make an a/c smart, we need to set tempreature and other buttons automatically through if statements. F.e. If light is on, and temperatur is under 23 degree C , switch on heater. If light is off and temp is under 23 degree and time is before 8am, switch off a/c. If light is on, temperature >27 degree, switch on cool, if light is on and temp is > 29 degree switch on turbo. etc. thats how an a/c could get smart. home assistant would be only needed to change settings, but to do the one has to upload code anyway. Do you have suggestions Sir?
