There is a really nice startup that creates these cubes aswell, but theirs can do a lot of really cool stuff, like showing notifications and stuff, add that, would be awesome.

If you want to get technical, you could buy a small pixel controller (from a website like Holidaycoro) and use it to control this matrix over DMX. Basically so you can control it in real time and integrate it with other panels.
@MethodicalMaker

Hey, you should take that up to the next level. a cool electrical project should get a cool outer look as well. saw off anything sticking out, wood filler the holes. sand it nice and smooth then glue down some nice veneer and stain it, or prime and paint it!

I would suggest using the ws2811 string type LEDs instead, that way you dont have to do so much snipping and soldering! Just drill the 8 or 12mm holes in the backing wood and slot the LEDs through.

Nette Idee, werde mir so was auch malbasteln.

Great stuff, something I wanna try to do. *But a question:* _Why (in some of such Tutorials) none using a _*_white_*_ layer of the "walls"?_ The black (or brown, as in one with a cardboard was shown) swallow a lot of the light ... and "yes sure, the wall must blocking the light to the neighbours" ... but sone white paint or any other way ...?

Hey maybe to fix that gap problem without doing too much work, I'd sand down all the edges until smooth then use veneer and cover everything. Maybe add some tung oil to it?

long story short :D ... After a quick test i can say that the connection of up to 65 LEDs is no big problem. But you have to take care of how bright you want them to be and which color!!
@ThatGuy-nv2wo
@ThatGuy-nv2wo 7 лет назад
You can do any amount of LEDs(well not really, but a lot) it's the power supply that needs to be beefier the more LEDs you have, not the arduino which is just data.

I don't think you can use an Arduino Uno for that many LEDs. You'd have to get a higher Arduino model.

Wouldn't it be better to make bigger semitransparent cover, just to make it overlapping on the wooden edges on front? It should give you better look and there would be no gaps between the panel and wooden edges. Great project anyway!

Hm, I would like to mention: I feel that white foam board would have worked better for this project, so that way more light gets internally reflected instead of absorbed by the black.

That turned out better than I thought it would. However If I tried to made it, it would look like a mashed potato set on fire. Is there a particular reason you use such low gauge wire to carry small amounts of current when only a few amps are going through, or is that just what you had lying around?

I've orderd a Raspberry Pi Zero and this particulair led strip. I'm stil waiting for it to arrieve, and I can't wait to get my hands on those items! But... Uncle Google can't tell me how I'm supposed to wire this up. Could you please make a video that shows how to wire the leds up to the Raspberry Pi? Greetings Mark, a teenager from the Netherlands!
@Sebby6656
@Sebby6656 7 лет назад
Mark Hensens Just out of curiosity, how come you bought a raspberry pi zero over an arduino?
@markhensens5989
@markhensens5989 7 лет назад
Because a Raspberry Pi has a hdmi port, and it can run Linux. I'm also planning to do some experimenting with Kodi. (aka xbmc)
@Sebby6656
@Sebby6656 7 лет назад
Ah okay, so it was more of a purchase for future projects than this one specifically? You could also get a arduino clone relatively cheaply if you couldnt find another way

Wauw, I've just orderd an Arduino Nano clone for €3. Xd I hope it's any good, thanks for the tip.
@Sebby6656
@Sebby6656 7 лет назад
I've never had a problem with them and if it doesn't work first time then you can get a download for the firmware for the specific chip your arduino has, np
@AnuAnu-eh2bq
@AnuAnu-eh2bq 7 лет назад
why didn't you consider having 10 strips with 10 leds each, this could save you some work and time and also seems like a reasonable solution. for me it would be too much hustle to treat each led individually, driilling, smoldering 600 holes, connections, seems insane.
