The Distress grit paste has tones similar to old paper and pumice stone inks....perhaps those could be used (if you have on hand). Color alchemy is tricky 😮. I’ve seen videos making gesso (basically what you used here....PVA, acrylic paint & corn starch) and then can be blended with sand as you showed. Is fun to tint to whatever color desired....and even make new colors! TYFS ❤️🦋💜

Hi Cindy, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, colour alchemy is tricky and I will be playing around with it further. Your right about the gesso making, there is so many combinations, I made my own for years using house paint!

Hello everyone, I hope you enjoy learning how to make my sandy-gritty texture paste. This is a long video with me chatting and sharing every detail of the process. I suggest you grab a cuppa and scrap/craft along while watching. This method I use to create this textural medium is very simple and only requires a couple of products which some of you may already have in your supplies. It's messy fun, a great mixed media creative play experience, and allows you to create whatever colour or type of sandy-gritty texture effect that you need. Please, let me know if you find this video useful and have any other techniques that you would like to learn about? Part 2. with more sandy-gritty texture paste mixes and ideas is now available ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HPKyk46cWyE.html

Looking at neutralizing colors, it seems purple will work for yellow. Not sure how much, or what shade, would have to experiment. :)

Thanks, Shelia. You are correct, yellow will turn purple into a neutral, I should of delved into that more when experimenting. Thank you for watching. There is a part 2. video using the texture paste that you may enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NntUyFlaUCE.html

If you're going to use sand from the yard or the beach or even the home improvement store (as opposed to craft sand), make sure to heat it in the oven to 400 for about 10 minutes to kill any microbes. I would also rinse it to remove organic matter.

Hi lisa, Thank you for your advice. The sand I used had been washed with hot water several times and sieved several , then dried in the sun for several hours. It may not have looked like that , as I had spilt some pea gravel rocks and other materials into the bucket from prior use. Your idea of using the oven is a great option to remove the microbes for those concerned about contamination. Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge. I do have two other videos about texture paste which may interest you, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NntUyFlaUCE.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NntUyFlaUCE.html
