Survival Lilly I’m used to shooting compound but know have my grandfathers recurve and was wondering how you aim for side to side ex. Is your arrow tip off target or high or low or are you putting the arrow tip on the bullseye? I know it’s different for everyone but was wondering thankyou and I always enjoy your videos !!!

In case you haven't quite made permanent markings on your riser yet, it might be smart to use some kind of sticker or something slightly less than permanent...just in case you ever decide to change limbs for a different draw weight...even trying different arrow shafts or tip weights could make your initial markings obsolete...food for thought :) Nice shooting!
@nicoopiee

a good suggestion would be chalk markers. its what ive been using and its very beneficial :)
@mishellgagnon5771

Very good suggestion indeed. But having shot a bow for the last 14 years, and having had a shoulder operation, I would be very surprised if Lilly evr decided to swap limbs. She said that 40 pounds is her limit.
@tmalonso
@tmalonso 3 года назад
@@mishellgagnon5771 true...another reason would be for changing arrow and/or point weight, this can change where the markings will need to be as well...even changing fletchings can have some effect

@SurvivalLilly
@SurvivalLilly 6 лет назад
If they are already taller I would recommend the bow in this video or a Samick SHT or Samick sage. For kids I recommend 20 pounds draw weight at the beginning. You can already purchase stronger limbs (30 pounds) for when they get stronger

@SurvivalLilly
@SurvivalLilly 6 лет назад
no problems with the bow except that you have to nock higher than normal.
@tjj4lab
@tjj4lab 6 лет назад
Survival Lilly why do you have to knock so high with this bow? Is it just your aiming style? If I’m imagining this correctly by knocking high you are bringing the arrow up towards your eye level, thus reducing the range of the bow, but making it easier to sight. Are you just knocking so high because the bow is so powerful and you want to reduce the aiming “gap”?

If you use the bow to deer hunt you know you will have to recalibrate the sights due to the fact the broadhead is heavier than the field point and the arrow point of impact may be different.

You would enjoy a target recurve... 25" riser with some ILF limbs... and a regular site. Those Risers... are drilled for arrow rest, pressure buttons... and sight mounts.... along with stabilizer threads too. Your groups would get very small & accurate. Good Shooting.

I'm trying to understand more in-depth classification for bows.. isn't this technically and "American longbow", not a recurve? 🤔 Recurve has by definition the limbs facing away from the archer, but this one doesn't. It looks the same shape of the bow Byron Fergusson uses (American longbow). I THINK I understand that an American longbow (either one piece or takedown) has an arrow rest similar to this bow (no fancy arrow rest/three brushes or anything) but just had a shelf (English longbow has no rest, you just rest the arrow on your index finger and shoot it from there)... Am I right or wrong here? Always thought there were just Longbow, Recurve and Compound, but these sub-classifications made it suddenly complicated.. :/

ALSO WITHOUT ARROW ON BOW, CLOSE YOUR EYES, PULL BACK AND HOLD FOR TEN SECONDS OR CLOSE TO AS YOUR COMFORTABLE. REPEAT DAILY FOUR TO FIVE TIMES. AND BEFORE YOU GO SHOOT/ HUNT. I have always used sites with pins or markings of 20,30,40. and 50 yds. the marks or pins gradually open up as you are farther away due to gravity. The gaps should be farther apart at the longer distance's than say the 20 yd setting to 30 yd setting. The 30 to 40 a little wider, and 40 to 50 should be the widest. This info is assuming everything is the same. All arrows identical , draw weight and your form. Then all you need to know is how far is the target.

the gap was due to the un level line you where shooting and the trajectory curve of the arrows. not a bad shot. need to relax your butt, let up on your grip and balance the bow in the crotch of your hand between your index and thumb. I'd pick up some (cut and stick felt) for the "arrow plate"'where the arrow is launched from. bottom and side. good luck, the only other pointer would be to try a trigger release glove. I'm sure your writing your future into the great giver that is RU-vid, "land of gifts". makes me want to start a vlog on welding with a car battery charger and generator so I can get a welding machine, helmet and stockpile of materials to weld! hahah I don't do cold river plunges in bikinis as well though . .

One other note, if you can should groups and if you have a large enough target vertically. You can use say your 20 yd mark or pin ,starting at the top of target, then shoot group at 20 yds , then use same pin to shoot at 30 yds but aim at the same high spot, same pin at 40 yds and same pin at 50 yds aiming at the same high spot. You will see the graduation of the gaps between the groups and the pattern will be the same as the bow sites. If you measure center of 20 yd group to center of 50 yd group this will tell you what the arch of the arrows are. Then if you increase bow weight or lighten arrow and still be able to shoot groups , then you can tighten the distance between the 20 yd group and the 50 yd group. If you can lessen this distance between the 20 and 50 groups then you are shooting a flatter arch which helps if your hunting or shooting 3D archery because of the yardage estimating. ( how far is it ?)

Mandarin Duck market some really good archery products at reasonable prices. A couple of things, your nocking point on your string looks really high and could be why your arrows are leaving the bow with the fletching high and the pile low? Also by the way the arrows are hitting the target it looks like your arrow spine is on the soft side (arrow nocks pointing to the left). Nice shooting.

The markings will just mess with your instinctive sight picture but best of luck

I would recommend you to shoot 20 meters as closest distance everything closer is way to easy and not a good training only useful to train form maybe. And put the target higher lift it up shooting down is also not so good for the form

Has Lily ever said where she anchors her bow string hand on her face? I have noticed that other recurve archers will do something like have a thumb or knuckle on their jaw or mouth.
