Hi, i've just discovered this video series in the last few hours and have to say i'm loving it. I've been hoping for so long that someone would do a Sweet Pea build on RU-vid. A bit gutted i've only just found yours. I do have one observation although it's very much after the fact at this point. Although the book suggests riveting the buffer beam angles to the main frames, it is recommended that they are riveted before attaching to the buffer beams, then skimmed or filed to maintain accuracy. The buffer beams are then bolted, not riveted to the angles. Similar with the stretchers but effectively opposite - the angles are riveted to the stretchers, skimmed as necessary and bolted to the frames. This allows a pretty much complete disassembly of the loco when needed. Really enjoying the videos and please take this as intended - as an observation and in no way a criticism. PS/ just subscribed.

Hi S Thankyou very much for you watching and feedback, hope you find it useful, it's a while back since i built this and it's getting plenty of use as you will see in later video's. i believe from memory i used domed headed Allen screws to bolt it together, with some riveting in a few places, if i'm honest when i built this it was my first ever steam loco, and with hindsight super critical accuracy is not really needed, if tolerances are tight, the things never run properly, well that's only my opinion which i have picked up from old school builders of locomotives, don't get me wrong i'm not saying things should be thrown together.!! I'm just about to start another SP maybe this winter which is part done, see my latest video's for that, when i got the unknown boiler re-certified. Anyway hope to hear from you again, By the way are you building one, if so keep me updated on your progress Many thanks Kev

I have just inherited a Myford lathe and the beginnings of a Sweet Pea chassis. I have no engineering background but would love to one day carry on the build. A quick question for now if you don't mind, the angles that are used to bolt various parts to the main chassis, do you buy the angle or do you make that too? Thanks in advance, your videos will no doubt be a massive help should I continue the build.

eyup Daniel great to hear you have the myford and SP chassis just depends what parts you mean, the main chassis and stretchers that stiffen the middle up i scrounged some 25mm angle, any thing else in general i made, i didn't buy hardly anything for mine, it was mainly begged steal or borrowed as the saying goes🤣, don't get me wrong there is somethings you wil have to buy, but it all depends how inventive you want to be !!. You may not have engineering background but you have to start somewhere. i have an engineering background but i was a complete Novice on anything steam, so i had some head scratching moments, in fact many!!!. If you take your time, read up and learn as you go, and any setbacks, walk away, sleep on it and refresh, then most times things become clearer. If you join a local Model Engineering Club that will be a tremendous help, once you have a foot in the door. Most people are helpful, although a few are'nt!!!. If i can be of any help anytime, just fire away, if my "grey cells" can process🤣 then i will help. Get the "Build Your Own Steam Locomotive" book by Jack Buckler, thats all i worked with and one full size General Arrangement drawing obtained from Blackgates Engineering in Yorkshire, They will sell you anything SP related even a boiler. Also did you get tooling with the Myford!!, and if your new to machining / lathe work take care as machines take no mercy!!! Hope this helps Daniel stay safe good luck keep in touch atb merry xmas🎅🎅🎅👍👍👍 Kev
