Making A Celtic Peridot Ring: A Silversmithing Tutorial

This video tutorial shows me making a Celtic themed silver and Peridot ring. For this one I used a 6x8 mm faceted Peridot. The materials I used were: 18 gauge sterling silver round wire, 20 gauge sterling round wire, and 14 gauge sterling square wire, and 3/16 inch fine silver bezel in 26 gauge. This one includes the basic steps to make a bezel for a faceted stone as well as some very detailed soldering. As always I am using exclusively hard silver solder, and I use My-T-Flux from Rio Grande. I would rate this one as an intermediate project. This video is a bit longer, but is a detailed tutorial, so I think it is worth the watch time. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful?

Thanks VJ F! If you are referring to the octopus, it is Larimar, a stone from the Dominican Republic. Here is the video where I made that one: Octopus Pendant: A Silversmithing Tutorial ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ly2AchaNa5c.html

I think as we get older we start to appreciate the more subtle things, instead of wanting “ALL the SPARKLIES ALL THE TIME!!!!” Lol(still fond of the sparklies sometimes tho) I think I prefer green tourmaline to peridot tho. Love the triquetra on this. I love Celtic interlace but rarely use it in jewellery mainly cos I’m terrible at exacting measurements and interlace is ALL measurements lol .Having seen it done, I might just give it a try… Btw the number 3 was sacred to many ancient cultures. So many vital things come in 3s, earth air and fire, maiden mother crone, 3 graces, 3 fates…..making jewellery with this pattern makes you a part of a tradition that reaches back into prehistory. Something to keep in mind if you like that sorta thing :)

I've always loved the origins of things, symbols, myths, word/idiom etymology. Sometimes the roots of things are interesting. Thanks for the nice comment Pauline!

Always amazing Chad. Thank you for sharing your experience and methods. Your working style is how I want to approach my technique. Have you done any brooches or Tie pins in your episodes?
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Год назад
Thanks Chris! The big dragonfly piece I did quite a while ago was a pin/pendant with a style of pin back that I like. Here’s a link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xj5T9nH8Qu4.html. It was an earlier video, so editing may be a bit rougher:). Haven’t done a tie tack video yet. Do people still use those? Hope this helps:)

10:42pm EST. Really great video that you make look so easy. Just one question, when you added the second ring to your inner bezel, did you add it “on top” of the first ring or “on the inside” of the first ring? Thank you.
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Год назад
Thank you Marilyn! One is stacked on top of the other when I make a step bezel this way. Occasionally I’ll have to use 3 if the stone is particularly deep:). Thanks for the nice comment!
