Making a Chain from a PVC Pipe

Neat video, found this on Pinterest, expected some lame ‘hack’ but this is cool! Just a caution to anyone cutting and heating PVC- The respirator he wears is important- protect your lungs. Also have GOOD ventilation when heating/welding it. PVC is polyvinyl chloride, and when heated makes chlorine gas, which can kill you.

Wow, It’s been more than a year since I published a video on RU-vid. I was thinking to upload a video explaining why I have not published a video for more than a year, but I realised that there is no need to make a separate video. At the end, you say 'what should I do with it"? I reckon you could pull the chain apart, make them round by heating them up, then connect them all together to make a straight piece of pvc pipe. Just kidding. I loved your video and will be looking at more of your tutorials. Well done.

Fantastic job, dude!!! 😃 Some tips (I guess I even already told you that, but either way): you can make PVC sheets from PVC pipes. Get a piece of around 300mm (30cm), make a cut vertically and put it in the oven at 200°C for about 5 minutes. It's going to be really soft and moldable... So you put between 2 flat surfaces with some weight over it. Then... You can make lots of things with it. You can heat and bend and so on. 😊 Another tip is that CA glue is amazing with PVC. You don't need more than it. 😊 Anyway, for example, I was upgrading a toy grade rc car to hobby grade the other day... It's a really old rc car that I found and bought used. So the plastic is a bit brittle and I ended up braking the steering brace. 😕 What I did was to glue it temporarily, put over a PVC sheet, marked around it and cut. Done. 😊

If there is a way to put teeth on or in a larger piece of poly pipe this chain could be used to connect two cogs. One cog turning another via a chain is a machine.

Great to see the diy king back! I'd like to ask about where you've been but surely you've just been busy with work, studies and/or family. Now the important question is are you here to stay or is this just a video you could make even with whatever you were busy with. And about the chain: it looks good for decorating or cosplaying. Just needs a bit of paint. It could probably even be used with self-made pvc gears although I doubt if such a system would be good for anything but looks.
