Thank you SO MUCH for your brain rambling. Your recognition that just because something "isn't logical" doesn't mean it's less important to recognize. This very much identifies what both my husband and I are learning about ourselves in our 40s.

Oh my goodness yes! It seems so important because of the emotional attachment even though we logically recognize the issue at hand isn't the actual priority or problem.

A tip from a lactose-intolerant yogurt lover: if you make your own yogurt, you can leave it to… ripen? Ferment? Culture? for longer so that the critters that turn the milk to yogurt can digest all the lactose, so you don’t have to.

@em_pen

True, and you can also leave shop-bought yoghurt until it's close to the use-by, then all the lactose has become food for the culture and it's easier on people tummies.

Nearly every therapy session I've ever paid for has been less useful than this. Thanks for proposing some ways of processing that you've found useful. And explaining them the way they make sense for you. They're pretty applicable to me too - in ways that a lot of therapists just... aren't. Because what they had signed off on, as things they're allowed to teach people... just aren't a good fit for me. Or they're explaining it in ways that don't help. So... thanks. I appreciate you internet friend.

Funny thing about parfait: my husband started recording TikTok videos about board games and he wanted a fun image to use when he said the word "layers." He asked me what I thought: parfait, of course! That's what he thought too, and was somehow surprised that I also came up with it. Parfait now also means "I love you" in my house. My brain has been doing similar weird things of late. I think your mental health dress project is glorious.

Oh that’s soo true, I was laying down watching this and I cannot feel my left hand pinkie and ring finger in the normal way, it’s like my fingers are in a glove you know it’s there you can feel it there but the outside is numb, so I’m forever trying to pull of a glove that does not exist and this time my finger nail on my pinkie was annoying me until I realised the darn nail was half an inch long😳 I have always kept my nails at 4mm at the max 2mm at minimum and here it was half an inch long. I hate filing that nail because I cannot feel it like my other fingers it’s like running your fingers down the chalk board 😭😭😭😭 at every stroke of the file. Arrrrrr

That plunging neckline could very easily be an after 5:00 cocktail dress, with the right pearl accessories, like a choker, earrings & bracelet & small clutch bag. Also regarding the wind noise check to see if your fireplace flue is closed. (If it's open it will effect your utility expenses.

Jeesus Charlie, I feel ya. 😅 So many things that you just said are things that I have also struggled a LOT with and use the ecxact same coping skills for them. Those feelings are valid. I think a lot of people get stuck in qualifying if the "brainhurt" or "weirdness" comes from a valid reason without realising that it already is here. Some people drown in 3 meters of water and others drown in 3 kilometers. It does not really matter how deep the water was, the situation is still the same. You feeling weird is completely valid and the things that make you feel weird are valid. ❤ With realising that I am ADHD helped me to find more coping skills that work for my brain and not against it. 'Cause, in the end, if there is a way to do things that help your brain instead of hurting it, then why the heckity-hoo not? Might help anyone reading this too.

And of course, YAY for Matt's return. Happily awaiting the next step in your sewing room - I'm sure it will be terrific. The voices in my head are screaming out organizational ideas and that you should watch Shannon Makes episode about her amazing table. It's big, it's on wheels, it has a top on which you can pin fabric, it has shelves for fabric, trim, patterns and such. One woman put a power strip on hers so that she can also iron on a pad Some people op for the ability to raise and lower it - my point is that you will figure stuff out that suits you, not some other Maker. Best wishes.

I'm rather new to your channel, and I've noticed several times when I've gone, "I so get that," to something you've said off-hand about how you interact with the world or experience your environment. This video brought on a whole new level of, "I completely get you." I feel like we are mental twins in so many ways, and it's extremely reassuring to get that I'm-not-the-only-one validation from listening to you talk about your mental state and health so openly. So... as someone who often struggles to topple the tower of stress, I thank you for the affirmation and encouragement that you put forward here. I totally hear you on the feeling your hair thing, although for me when it kicks in I start feeling them all at the /root/, and that is...less avoidable. 🤣😭 The balance I've had to find is how to feel what I'm feeling, allow it to bother me, but continue on with what needs to happen while being in that headspace. It's a super-hard balance, because I'm absolutely a stiff-upper-lip type, but knowing how to exist alongside the not-great feelings and not let them affect other people too badly is really how I can keep going.

Often when I'm not feeling good myself I try to avoid videos that are about that, because they make me go into my head even more. I'm glad I decided to click on your video and watched it, it did help. Especially in the end when you're talking about "feeling like you shouldn't feel like you do". Just wanted to say thank you for the care you put into your captions! Some of the things you do, like specifying when it’s video-you or voiceover-you speaking (which is fantastic for lip-readers) go above and beyond what’s expected for professional captioners and I am incredibly grateful. If I could make a tiny request, though, do you think you could have the little [message] at the beginning/end as actual text on the screen? When the audio and captions don’t match, it (unintentionally!) assumes the viewer can hear well enough to tell the difference. I love the extra messages you leave in your videos, but the current format is less accessible to your deaf/HOH audience

I know it is an older video by now but I just wanted to say I really like your videos and your style of videomaking and dressmaking. I have ADHD and what you say about your voices and weird moods is super on point for me, it is how the brain works! It is so nice to see someone that is just making and creating the way they want and not planning it out like the next masterplan for solving quantum physics. The dress looks beautiful!

I adore how a simple design, is such a statement! I am adding this video to my inspiration folder! And thank you for sharing your current mindset and challenges with us. How you use "weird" rather than "stressed" makes a lot of sense to me because I can get stressed if I am out of my routine, and aren't able to make a plan, or well thought plans can't be followed through because of external factors. I am going to start seeing those periods as weird, or odd, and keep "stressed" for other situations. I also relate to having trouble leaving things incomplete, or not liking when something is there and I can't work on it just yet. Also, scheduling! I make up plans, or I scheduling things, and I recently realized those things become set in stone, when I was the one who set deadlines or expectations, and no one else is affected if I don't or can't do the thing at that set time. Just thank you, so much for being you and being so generous and creative.

I have always been impressed at your ability to leave a project to go eat, sleep etc as it’s something I really struggle with.. to hear you also have that and yet are doing so well was really helpful. Plus the tip about check points will come in handy too! Thank you for making this video and being open with us, you are helping many people

I love a good casual crafting while brain dumping kind of video. My brain works too fast for journaling, so I talk out my stuff too...whether or not anyone is around to hear. It's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this. The mention of schedule sent me down a thought path that made me realize that's something I'm struggling with too. I like having a schedule, so I can plan what I'm going to do...yet schedules can also make me feel boxed in and out of options and then I shut down in protest. It's tiring...

You look great in this dress. It’s a date night dress but looks so comfortable to wear all the time. You could make it in all different colors and lengths. Now I want to make one.

Your fabric stash is amazing ( so many pretty fabrics). I would have decision fatigue trying to chose between them. I am easily overwhelmed by too many choices and then have a hard time getting started. One of my favorite things about your channel is listening to you talk things through.

The hair thing on the back of the neck!!!! I thought I was the only person who would sometimes fixate on that. I also sometimes fixate on seeing the tip of my nose in my eyesight. And yes to the "must finish X task or get to Y stopping point" before a break. It drives my friends and family bonkers, but it's the only way my brain will relax.

Hearing about how you need to figure out checkpoints before you can stop is sooo relatable. We I have a project that I know I can't finish in a single go, I write out checkpoints and try to just think of getting to the checkpoint as 'finishing' and not think of the larger project. It's hard for me to start if I don't think I can finish it in that go and it really helps. I also have issues with task switching so getting started can sometimes be my greatest hurdle.

oh my god THANK YOU for talking about this. i'm only halfway through the video but i am just so relieved to hear you talking about how a) talking out loud helps sort the brain spaghetti tangle and b) how having one's work/personal space can feel so disruptive and grumbly-discombobulative. I'm right with you there. we're currently painting our whole studio apartment and my one lil work desk is my only island of sanctuary (that can't even fully do its job for me rn). Anyways, feels good (or maybe just less bad?) to have someone else in the world also experience it 😁 but of course i'm sorry you're struggling 😌 oh and also, i've found that talking between all my parts with sock/hand puppets helps make the voices easier to single out :) 🌻 ok, and now that i've finished the video, BIG SAME on sensory things/distractions not going away or not being able to ~get over stuff~ like people tell me i Should.... and that dress is cute as hell 😸 way to go sis!! and good luck with finishing the studio! ❤

I have been watching so many of your videos lately and it has made me feel so much better about "messing up" on projects because I was always so worried about not getting it right, but watching you and seeing that you take it as "well now I know how to do xyz" it has changed a lot of my mind set. You are awesome, thank you for talking and showing how your brain processes all the things both project and otherwise.

Beautiful dress, and wonderful insight into what is going on in your brain. I'm kind of going through the same thing right now. I've been setting up my living room to be my sewing room (I live in an RV so it's small) and then I got RSV and every time I try to do anything I get exhausted! I have so many things to finish so I can use my sewing space (decluttering especially) but it has to wait until I can actually not have to take at least 2 naps a day just to survive. It does give me a lot of time to watch sewing videos, though--there's always an up-side!

I think its kinda funny, kinda sweet all the AuDHD-ers are relating to this. Myself included. Idk if you have a diagnosis or care to get one but a lot of what you said is a very typical neurodiverse experience; looking into adhd might help you and your parfait brain a lot! Either way its good to know other people go through this, thank you for being so open, its nice to be seen

Lovely dress! I know you say it's simple, but I'm still completely in awe because I really struggle with making clothes without patterns. I think part of my hangup is that I'm just now getting to the point where I can more easily find sewing time again (mom of 3 here), and it makes me much less willing to take chances when it often takes me 2 months to finish one simple project and it's so upsetting to have a complete flop. Also, I love your subtitles. I often have to watch with the sound turned down, it's easier for me to read than to listen to this + background noise, and the comments on your music and such are so entertaining!
